Love these videos so much. I especially enjoy this presenter’s voice and speaking style. Stunning painting and lovely presentation of the content. Thank you.
A highly informative and well presented talk. It was so useful to be able to see the detail of the painting and to spend time focusing on some of the minutiae depicted. Thank you for an enjoyable ten minutes.
Fascinating presentation beautifully described. One detail that i did make was how we all depict detail differently. The tulip which was shown in the early part of the presentation Lucy said one of them was dying, I suggest the tulip had its petals taken away so we could view the beautiful inside. I think Van Huysum was an intellect and would show it in this way.
"Everyone had gathered round Mme de Villeparisis to watch her painting. ‘Those flowers are a truly celestial pink,’ said Legrandin, 'I should say sky-pink. For there is such a thing as sky-pink just as there is sky-blue. But,’ he lowered his voice in the hope that he would not be heard by anyone but the Marquise, ‘I think I still plump for the silky, the living rosiness of your rendering of them. Ah, you leave Pisanello and Van Huysum a long way behind, with their meticulous, dead herbals.’" Marcel Proust, The Guermantes Way: In Search of Lost Time, Volume 3.

I didn’t recognize them as hyacinths because the ones I’m used to look so different. Very interesting!

would love to have this hanging above my fireplace, and the other 4 around the house.
Van Huysum was known to produce paired paintings for his clients. Was this part of a set at one time?
