I liked this too. I can certainly relate to buying too many gadgets but also can relate to not having some things we needed, some things that were actually pretty funny at the time. We made lists and things but had to get everything from pots and pans to towels to basic spices! Pretty funny when you decide on easy pasta for dinner and realize you have no potholder and no cooking spoon either. Easy to fix but it reminds us that experience is what we get just AFTER we needed it! Harvest Host is something we are considering but we have a complication in that we have to power a CPAP machine overnight and simply are not designed for power efficiency. So some parts of boondocking may be an issue. Enjoy your family time together! Safe journeys!
You just keep making the videos on the topics you enjoy. That makes them authentic and you are both so enjoyable! Thanks for the great advice and the editing gets better and better!
I’ve been a full time RV guy for 10 years. This advice is legit. I made the same mistake of buying the same stuff early on...and half of it I ended up not using. Push in the choke and use your RV for a while before making useless purchases. BTW - I love this channel 😊
@@RVEastCoast Even if you don't boondock they can be a life saver if your power goes out for days on end. I'm guessing that everyone in Texas wished they had one after last week. Love the content though. I subbed after watching 1 video. Your passion for RVing is what keeps people watching.
You are correct, it's a trial and error thing. I know where we frist started out we brought anything we throught we would need, leason learned. As far as surge protection, going cheap is not better. After many years of RVing and going thru many different brands of total electrical surge protectors, we setteled for the best on the market we beileve "Power Watchdog" from Hughes Autoformers. Good stuff guys.
You look like a really sweet family. Thanks for sharing these tips. I probably won't be doing much more RV-ing because of circumstances, but it's fun to watch and dream.
Harvest host basically pays for itself in 2 nights. Love it. Great for trips where it takes 2-3 days to get to destination. Over night stops at great locations can not be beat. Sorry to disagree, but you’re right, it really depends on type of traveling you do
Very interesting list, especially the very last "impulse purchases" for the kitchen. We have found the best thing for us is to hit the thrift and second-hand stores for our kitchen items. The stuff is cheap and if you don't use something you won't get burned on the cost, plus you can always re-donate unwanted items. Plus we aren't worried if something breaks or gets lost. It's a camper - nothing has to match perfectly!
I love the rv video I think I did everything you did but the generator. And I have been camping for 9 years. I don't do it much anymore but in the past I have going to the store and said I need this and I need that and then never use it. I enjoy your videos
Really nice energy from you guys. This on top of being very earnest and practical about really needing certain things or not, makes anything you talk about enjoyable to listen to. You tried some things, and found out they didn't work out that great - that's solid reviewing right there. Saved me some potentially wasted time shopping items that aren't worth it. Yeah, it's definitely good having it around. We lost power for several days on two different occasions this year. We don't use it as much as we thought we would, but we are glad we have it.

Nice job,,,, glad you address this topic, there is a lot stuff out there you don’t need. Good advice, is to get out there and camp, then find your camping style - full hook ups, partial hookups, one or two night stays and go, , stay in same camp ground for week or longer, driveway surfing, boondocking, etc. you don’t have to buy everything before your fist trip, chip away it, slow down and enjoy the journey,

We purposefully plan to use our memberships first-especially when out on weekends when other campgrounds are scheduled by weekenders months in advance. Nice to have alternates, so everyone can get out for adventures!
To each their own. Harvest Host is one of the best purchases we made. We use it on almost any trip. I agree you have to be comfortable with boondocking, but the HH membership cost is minimal.
Yep, We agree with you. As I said in the video. Harvest Host is an amazing program and we will definitely get it again when our kids are a bit older. I personally LOVE the idea of opening my door to a beautiful vineyard or a freshly mowed golf course! Hope you are enjoying your membership!

Your overall advice on waiting to buy things until you take a few camping trips should help others to avoid our mistakes. Can't wait to watch your video on the things you are glad you bought.
I've been RVing for 2 years now and can totally agree with you on everything you said; my only exception would be the generator. Everything about RVing is personal preference and what works for one person may not work for another. You said your wife really wanted to do more boondocking, so with that in mind, it only made sense you'd invest in a generator. Then she changed her mind, but AFTER you'd already spent the money. I've yet to use my generator on an actual camping trip because I prefer to only stay at full hook up sites; but I know that will not always be the case and I might as well be prepared sooner than later. Besides, we have blackouts in my area once or twice a year lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. Having a generator, as well as an RV, really is a piece of mind.
Thanks for the feedback. It’s true it’s about personal preference and lots of people really enjoy boondocking. It’s not really for us but we will still make good use of our generator.
Thanks guys!!! Great video. I felt it to be honest - very enlightening. I hate purchasing things that don't work or aren't what they claim. This will save rv'ers lots of heartache & money. 👍
You've got to be kidding? Where have you been going? HH has been tremendous!!! I HIGHLY recommend it. The best usage is in-between getting to your final campground. For example: a 3 day trip to our final d - having a quick stay before getting there is always a winner...
We love this video and agree with your advise because not common to see other channels bring up the truth of the most common mistakes or regret purchases made such as all the memberships or different purchases that really are not needed. Agreed with the power surge! Out of all of my RV subscriptions of outtakes, you won hands 🙌🏼 down... I laughed so hard at the end about the clothes. We look forward to the next video, you do such a great job editing them! Thanks for keeping it real too!
When it comes to beds the Purple mattress is the best thing I have ever purchased. In fact its the best thing I have purchased in any category. it's really that good.
I love all your videos and your great sense of humor, as well as your reality check on kids. Camping with kids is hard, and I’m a lot like Fawn. I am all about fun…with electricity and water. We have a pop up, but it’s a big one and it’s pretty nice. We do still have to use the bathhouse, mostly by choice, but my husband would (and has) slept in the Subaru in the driveway. Keep it up, guys! I love your budget minded comments, as well. Not everyone out there has a huge budget, and I think it’s just so helpful to say that.
My husband and I live in a van so our needs are slightly different and we mostly boondock but I love the information on the surge protector because I do think about that I don't have one and have looked at the camco one now I know ..don't bother! Ty ❤️
As it happens, I have a membership to Harvest Host, and while I haven't used it yet. I actually include it in my planning. I'm excited to try wineries and, orchards and farms later this year.
We love HH! With a plan you can really use the system well. We have spent in 2020, 92 days traveling and about 20 of those days were with a HH. Wineries yes, but also an Alpaca Farm in MT and National Quilt Museum in KY for some other cool places! We don’t golf so didn’t add that to our membership. Met some really cool people / owners at all the HH stays!
We also like HH, my wife does not like the parking lot over night stays. She prefers the nice farms, breweries and wineries. The membership have paid for itself a few times over. we love it. I myself like the fact that we don't have to rush to our next stay just to check in during day light hours and set up. Take your time and enjoy the travel. Safe travels, enjoy.
Great tips and ideas as usual! I agree 200% with the surge protector, we recently upgraded from the cheapest Camco anylizer to the Hughes Power Watchdog and couldn’t be happier. The Camco almost burnt our camper’s plug up.
Thank you firend, we hope OH treats you well this winter 😂 yeah, I heard great things about Hughes Power Watchdog. Glad to hear is working well for you! Eli
Great points guys! Totally agree that it’s easy to get caught up when you’re “new” with feeling like you “need” a bunch of random gadgets - in a small space that fills up super quick! Keep up the newbie videos for sure 😀 Aaron & Nicole
Thanks for the info on the surge protector. Been toying with getting one over the last 8 years. Now I have an idea of what brand to go with-was thinking of Camco but you saved me the trouble!
Yep, it was scary... We went to a campground where the power was bad and the Camco surge protector started overheating and making this crackling sound and it failed to cut the power before causing damage. Thanks for watching!
Highly recommend Progressive Industries. Also, consider a hardwired unit - my first mod. Not too difficult with some basics electrical understanding. Plus, don’t every worry about having it stolen, and it’s always there. If your TT has 30A, checkout the EMS-HW30C.
I agree with you on everything except the generator. We carry a smaller one with us, 2000 watts. It saved our rears in Colorado last year. We were boondocking and used every bit of power from the batteries. The lights inside wouldn't even light up. We had to leave that morning and if it wasn't for our generator, we would not even been able to get our slide and awning back in, plus hook up the truck. Luckily, we had about a cup of gas left in our generator and were able to fire it up and pull everything in. Otherwise, we would had to use our hand cranks to do it. I do agree with you on everything else, though.
Excellent video! Whenever people post on FB that they just bought an RV and what are the must haves, there are always so many comments about things they probably don't need at all. To your point - perhaps it's best to take the new RV out for a spin to see what you really need. ! Great advice guys! Looking forward to the next video!
totally agree with all these. we are a year into RVing and we did all those purchases and didnt use any of it, probably because we havent boondocked yet. we would like to but havent yet.
Just found your channel..I've done most of these mistakes! LOL What I love is a honest assessment of boon docking not being your thing,,wow how refreshing,,I am not going to climb rocks and hike long trails, just want to get out and explore and admire the areas...using some of my loved things from home,,,not camping stuff.thank you! After I break a bunch of stuff, then I'll get the paper plates.haha
Thanks for sharing! Please an early release! Quick question... What do you do for bedding? I found awesome towels that dry fast and are compact for the linen closet but great, warm and compact sheets/comforters/sleeping bags they all still elude me!! LOL Anyone with any suggestions?! Vie 🇨🇦
Thank you, Vie, this is a great topic to discuss in our Facebook group. If okay with you I am going to start a conversation there with your question. Do you mind sharing a link to your towels?
Harvest Hosts and Passport America are our favorite discount “membership” programs. They fit perfectly for our family circumstances and travel style. We’ve dropped Good Sam because the 10% discount rarely pencils out for us with our other memberships.
I love talking about camping too! It doesn't matter how long someone's been a camper... there's always something new to learn! We invested in a solar generator this year... Actually, we ended up with two. The Jackery 300 and the 1000... We live in the northeast as well... and no power means no coffee LoL The 1000 can run our percolator and lots of small appliances for us. I think it can handle the refrigerator too. We have a large contractor generator for the house, but that is loud and makes a lot of fumes. We are so happy to have these now for camping and around the house. I love camping gadgets too, but yes, there are a few that I have and don't really use. I think I used our collapsable silicone bowl twice in three years HaHa! ...Thanks for the great content and videography! I love your editing work and background music! Enjoy this Christmas season! We all need the JOY! ~ Maria
love your videos. it boils down to the excitement of this "new thing". we've gone through so much stuff. my advice is like yours, move in with a few things from your home and see how it goes. time will tell what purchases work for you and your travel/camping style.
We put a regular mattress in our camper, best thing ever. Heavier than camper mattress. We also installed a good electric protection system. I had heard of horror stories from other RV’ers, worth it. Inverter generators generate cleaner electricity, good for phones, computers, and appliances with computers. That is what you want for an RV.
I like that they didn't trash talk the products. They spent the time explaining why it didn't work for them!
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our video. Thanks for the nice comment!

Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. We truly appreciate this comment.
Thanks for being real. Good luck in your travels
Thank you, we appreciate this comment!
Hey thank you, it was very helpful!
Thanks for sharing!
Please an early release!
Quick question... What do you do for bedding? I found awesome towels that dry fast and are compact for the linen closet but great, warm and compact sheets/comforters/sleeping bags they all still elude me!! LOL Anyone with any suggestions?!

Thank you, Vie, this is a great topic to discuss in our Facebook group. If okay with you I am going to start a conversation there with your question. Do you mind sharing a link to your towels?
Great suggestions! These are things I researched when we first purchased our camper, and agree completely with all you have said!
Thank you!! Appreciate the feedback!
~ Maria
I know some folks don't like harbor freight, but their solid rubber wheel chocks are a good purchase and well worth the money.
I really appreciate all the videos
Keep up the good work
Planning my retirement and a year of cross-country travel, taking grandkids on different legs of the trip. Great advice...thank you. New sub!
Thank you Pat. Your grandkids will have a blast and cherish those memories for years to come!
Very helpful and informative post!
Great video & suggestions. God bless you and family!!
Have you done a video about the solar generator yet or have a link to where you bought it from?
What an adorable couple. I loved your reviews. Keep them coming!!!
New viewer - love the videos. Keep shooting straight. Great info.

Awesome!! Glad it was helpful!
Very well done video. I appreciate it very much. No reason for thumbs down unless you're just mad or something. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. We understand some people disagree with the things we listed but we are just speaking from our pov.
Love the mom vs pop reaction to "potty".
No it’s a great idea to make this video! Thanks for the info!!
Thanks for these valuable insights. Loved your balance of family and work time.
Excellent, real world info! Keep it coming!
Thank you for watching and for letting us know you enjoyed the video!
How do you keep the plates and glasses and stuff from bouncing around and breaking? Nice video! I'm about to purchase a used toy hauler.
really like the quick videos
love your videos. it boils down to the excitement of this "new thing". we've gone through so much stuff. my advice is like yours, move in with a few things from your home and see how it goes. time will tell what purchases work for you and your travel/camping style.
Good call on the Southwire Surge Protector...I have the same one.... it's excellent
