"I'm tired of living through historic events." That hit so true.
!!!!
Right, I’m over all the negative historic events that keep going down!
-M
FOR REAL
I can imagine. Holy shit, the things the US has been through in only a few years.
Now U know how the Homeless feel! 😥
I remember when you guy's bought the house and Shelby said idk why we would need a fireplace in Texas and now I'm glad you guys have something to help keep warm
We were so thankful for that fireplace last week 😭.
-M
Madison in the snow with her rain jacket looks like a weather reporter. I'm crying laughing. You both are the best
So true, it was so funny!
Haha, I knew someone would call me out. I don’t even own a snow jacket, so I was making it work with my rain jacket 😂. I totally did look like a reporter.
-M
Madison's employer making her take sick days. SMH. It's a friggin' natural catastrophe ffs.
Mine did too and the house flooded
I only know of one company that did not make their employees take any sick/vacation days for what happened. They just want employees to touch base with their managers daily, if they can, and keep track of how long they were out because of the storm and aftermath, by the hour. I.e. I couldn't work for 36 hours this week because I had no electricity. I personally believe they didn't go full Grinch because Texas is their fastest growing market and they're getting ready to sue the pants off of a bunch of people to get monetary damages.
Yeah wtf :/
i'm glad Madison's work was understanding after she spoke to them. It's crazy that anyone wouldn't be. And same for schools requiring students to complete online work, like how??
Merica
Theres a reason why pre-electricity homes had low ceilings and separated rooms. Open concept is great for modern life. Not so great when you live during the collapse lol
Ah, good point! -S
Crisis doesn't create character, it reveals it.
Stick together, stay warm and safe.
I enjoyed watching this vlog. Thank you.
So true 😊.
I’m glad you enjoyed the vlog!
-M
Your sister singing WAP killed me 🤣🤣🤣
I cried laughing so hard lmao
Omg same, that was so funny
She killed it 😂😂😂
-M
This felt like one of those horror "found films" complete with each day's time stamp and the creepy/sad music playing in the background!
It felt like a horror film too. It was so scary not knowing when we’d have power again.
-M
I live near Dallas and we loss power/water and we have electric stove. I have a 7 month old and a 2 year olds and I had no way to keep them warm, bathe them, or feed them. Im so grateful and thankful my sister in-law took us in because she had power and water the whole storm. My heart goes out to all the mamas trying figure out how to keep warm and feed the babies.
Every household should have a camping heater and stove. 100 bucks at walmart.
My heart goes out to them too. I’m glad your sister-in-law was able to take you and your family in. It makes me so happy that you were able to care for your babies ❤️
-M
God bless your sister-in-law I'm so thankful you and your baby's had a warm place to stay 🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌🙌👍👍👍
@@RyanSmith-uw2ni I have what is left of my fuel canister from hiking years ago, my hiking stove attachment, and the lightweight pot the stove can basically support. Nobody plans for such a situation where you have to worry about cooking indoors and hope you don't die of carbon monoxide. I still am grateful to have those items should I need it. But I read of hikers who live far from stores and wondering where they can get fuel canisters as not allowed to deliver. Nobody there could have gotten those items in time when it is everyone in Texas with their own power grid. Maybe after this people will look into having some emergency items.
I'm getting a kerosene or propane heater for next winter. Good thing I learned from Canadian friends.
"You ain't putting that in the Buick!" LOLLLLL!!! Seriously, I don't see why the guy couldn't have sold you half a yard. Just fill up his scoop halfway -- ? Sigh. But, hey, Madison got to make a snow angel! So relieved all of you are okay and surviving the storms. Love you guys, please stay safe!!
For real though 😂. Yeah, I don’t either. He was making things so complicated, but I guess everyone has their own way of doing things. I did get to make a snow angel, in San Antonio 😳. That’s pretty crazy. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. Love you too, will do!
-M
Living in California where it never snows, I can totally imagine that the first little bit of snow would be fun and exciting and a novelty. "Wheee, Let's go make a snowman". But then when it gets deeper and the roads are not usable and there's no power:THIS AINT FUN ANYMORE! A few inches is more than enough.
That’s literally what happened. We went from “Weee, this is fun” to the lights going out 🙁.
-M
Tippy be like PUT ME BACK IN DA HOOOOUSE!!!
He totally was haha!
-M
24:15 The way the power came back just as Madison clapped was so satisfying hahaha
I know, if only me clapping to turn the power on would have worked more through out the week 😂.
-M
So glad you guys are safe! I’m still without heat after about 4 days, hoping it comes back on tomorrow! I was luckily able to find some drinking water at Target this morning but WOW has it been a whirlwind of a week. :(
I hope your heat and power comes back soon! If you can, please tell your state rep about your experience, they will be holding a hearing about this on Thursday, Feb 25th.
comments.house.texas.gov/home?c=c450
Thank you! I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope it kicks back on today! I’m glad you were able to find water at Target! Hang in there, friend. This has been a crazy week. We’re sending positive vibes you.
-M
Hope things get better for you soon.
i'm so glad you both are safe
Thank you! I’ve heard some super sad stories too. We had a tough week, but we re definitely still so fortunate.
-M
The dirt, the rapping, the snow angel, the s’mores dance hahaha glad to see are safe and you’ve done pretty much everything you can to keep it warm. I hope things continue to get warmer and you all remain safe! Give Tippers some extra snuggles for me that sweet boy. Those little kitties know where the heat is 😊
I’m glad we put a smile on your face. We’re doing our best to stay warm. Thank you! Oh we definitely will! He does know where the heat is 😂.
-M
Be careful with the gas stove! Cook with it but never just leave it on to warm the room. There are CO emission hazards (which is a scentless toxic gas). Much love from cold, -4 F, Quebec!❤
They are trying to survive lol wtf
@@luckycatbeats9607 CO is toxic... you can die from inhaling too much. This is not about the environment, but health. I was trying to help out :)
We have a carbon monoxide detector in our kitchen. It’s not an issue as long as the flame stays lit.

@@ShelbiMadison Alright cool!❤ stay safe
Several things to unpack here: 1. I have a few coworkers and friends that may have lost a lot from their pipes bursting. So, I'm glad to hear y'all were/are okay. I've been donating to the food banks in Texas. I encourage everyone that is able to donate even a small amount to them or other charities of your choice. With love from New Orleans. 2. The dirt escapade was flippin' hilarious. 3. Madison and Shelbi's sister are fire with their talent and sense of humor 4. I'm a newer subscriber, but I think you (Shelbi and Madison) are my favorite "influensters" because you're real. No unrealistic standards like filming with Lambos and Aston Martins, plastic surgery, and copious amounts of photoshop to perpetuate an unrealistic, idealized image of you living an unattainably perfect life. I'm a couple of years older than you two, but I feel I relate to you more than others on RUclips closer to my age. On top of that, you advocate for a niche "eco-minimalism" lifestyle that is attainable for everyone. All of this to say: thank you, and don't ever change. Y'all are awesome and I look forward to watching more of your adventures. Thanks for sharing with us.
1. I hope your coworkers and friends are recovering. We had a crazy week and know how fortunate we are. Our heart goes out to those that didn’t fare as well with the extreme weather this week. We’ll be volunteering at one of the food banks soon (would have been this weekend, but all the slots are full with everyone trying to help out)! Thanks for spreading the word on that! 2. I’m glad you enjoyed that. I’m such a goober sometimes, but that was quite a fun little experience. 3. She is pretty funny. Her rendition of WAP was hilarious. 4. You literally just made my day. Welcome to the party we’re so glad to have you and promise to always keep it real. No lambos or plastic surgery here. Just Shelbi and I kicking it with all of you all 😎! We look forward to having you come along virtually with us on our future adventures. Sending love your way.

I can't stop laughing with you during this whole dirt portion of the video 🤣
Ok now that I've watched the whole thing I wanna recommend something I have for camping and emergencies. (I live in upstate NY in a rural area, power outages are the norm here pretty much.) I have a few Luci Lights, which are inflatable lights that are solar charged, and some versions can even charge your phone. I can't recommend them enough. They're super bright, have multiple settings and some if not all have a strobe option too for emergencies. I also have a battery pack for my phone that has solar. As soon as any type of storm starts I make sure to gather every electronic and have it charging, and my luci lights, etc so they're all in one spot. We've gone 2 weeks without power and those lights were my best friends lol. I know this type of weather isn't normal for you all but those lights are great for any situation honestly. I hope you're all doing okay now. 💕
Why laugh
@@tkisango-price73 because as I said, the entire first portion where they're getting dirt was very funny. I literally said that.
@@AliciaAnn89 I love my Luci lights, too! I just bought the kind with the chargers but haven’t had occasion to use them yet, thankfully! But now I am prepared for whenever I do need them!
@@ginarose8183 awesome!! I'm obsessed with mine. 😁 The first one I got was so bright that I bought one with the frosted plastic for a more muted light too. 😍
It’s all bc shelbi bought that damn winter jacket in Texas😂 *shelbi* Idk when I’m going to wear this jacket butttt... *Mother Nature* bitch I got you
But really though...you’re speaking straight facts haha.
-M
man I thought that too. Shelbi buying all the jacket n cosy cardigans etc....
i’m trying to get 5 cubic feet of soil without plastic for my vertical garden and you guys are living out the exact public interaction hell i imagined i’d land in if i went to one of those bulk soil places with my little containers 😂
That’s so funny 😂! Lol, it would definitely be an experience, but it’s totally worth it.
-M
Try one of your local plant nurseries they usually have their own compost or soil and they have it even smaller amounts.
The tractor bit SENT ME 😂 Had a really ‘meh’ day and it proper tickled me!
So glad you guys are also safe and managing to laugh through stressful times - hoping the weather improves and your electric comes back promptly!
I’m glad we put a smile on your face!
-M
What a scary storm. We are so clad you ladies are safe and sound! Love that you two are still thinking about recycling in the middle of polar vortex👍Stay safe❤😊
It was pretty scary. Thank you so much ❤️. We’re doing our best over here! Will do!
-M
"YOU AIN'T PUTTIN THAT IN THE BUICK!!!" 😂😂
But really 😂😂😂!
-M
My dudes, this week was a disaster. We didn’t have power for almost 72 hours, we lost water for one of those days, and cell phone service was down too. Luckily we have a gas stove so we were still able to cook and we have a decently insulted house so we did alright. We only got some flurries in Laredo so a lot of us were pissed were like damn, if you’re gonna knock out the power, at least let there be actual snow cause we never see that. It’s only snowed twice in my life in Laredo and it’s def not common. People also went berserk after a rumor went around that there was gonna be a shortage so the gas stations became empty because of the panic. The shelves were empty at HEB and all other grocery stores. Even the small Mexican tienditas/bodegas. We went all over town yesterday looking for eggs and milk only. My poor four doggos hated the cold and they were stuck indoors all day just sleeping it off because of how cold they were. They were definitely a blessing at night because we’d huddle up all together. Most the things in our fridge went bad but we gave a lot of our frozen stuff to some family members that still had power before it had a chance to thaw. We def didn’t have the worst of it but man, I didn’t realize how mentally taxing it was until yesterday when everything was finally back to “normal” here. Can’t imagine how everyone else is doing. Been calling up friends all over Texas checking on them and been throwing some cash towards some mutual aid groups here in town to help lower income families that got affected worse because all the blackouts here were in lower and middle class neighborhoods while where the north upper class lived weren’t affected.
“I’m tired of living through historic events” is accurate af. 😭 glad y’all made it through!
My dude, I’m glad you survived. That sounds insane, but I’m glad that things finally got back to “normal” for you yesterday. The whole situation with all of Texas going through this is some bs, but I can definitely imagine being even more upset when there isn’t even any snow. We were mentally exhausted too. I literally feel like I need a vacation because just struggling to survive last week zapped so much out of me. “I’m tired of living through historical events” is literally our anthem! I’m over it smh. Sending love your way, friend.
-M
I'm so glad you guys uploaded a video, I've seen so many crazy pictures coming out of Texas I've actually been thinking about you both a lot and wondering how you were doing and if you are safe. Sorry you have to go through this. Stay warm and hopefully you'll be back in shorts in no time.
We totally had to. We know how much you all would worry if we didn’t. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. Hopefully we won’t have to go through it again. Haha, that’s funny you mention it. We’re actually already back in short. The weather is so crazy down in Texas.
-M
I am so happy you were able to post and let us know you are okay! I’ve been concerned for you this week; hearing the news from CA. This was a super fun vlog!! 💓 Your kind neighborhood gesture was the best! Take care, I look for your updates!
Us too, we knew how worried you all would be if we didn’t. Thank you so much for your compassion. We’re pretty fortunate to have such awesome neighbors. We’ll keep you posted 😊.
-M
“YOU’RE NOT PUTTING THAT IN THE BUICK” 🤣😂😅 dying at the soil part. I’m sorry y’all were with our power for so long! I live in austin and am lucky enough to be on a children’s hospital power grid and was able to keep power for most of the week.. hang in there! Hopefully this weekend let’s things get back to “normal”.. or pandemic normal at least lol.
Haha, I’m glad you enjoyed the soil bit and were fortunate enough to keep power for most of the week ❤️. The weekend is definitely looking better than the week for sure ❤️.
-M
I live in Pennsylvania and I honestly feel so bad for you guys. It breaks my heart to see you guys worrying so much. I wish there was something I could do to help.
Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. Honestly, things have gone back to semi normal. It feels so weird knowing we lived through this. We’re hanging in there!
-M
During power cuts, you really should try to turn everything that was on off, bc when the power comes back on it can blow light bulbs and fuses. From a person in the middle of nowhere in the UK where power cuts are frequent occurrences 😂
Yeah, we realized that when the energy surges kept happening. Luckily none of our devices got fried.
-M
Not really an issue in America. Most dude boxes are supposed to prevent a sudden surge
I’m glad you guys are okay. I was worried for you all! Stay warm and safe. Sending love from Michigan. 💜
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. We had a tough week, but are doing much better now. Sending love back your way!
-M
Thank you for sharing this!! I appreciate having insight into seeing what you guys have been experiencing. Sending love from Maryland! 💖💖💖
You’re so welcome. We wanted to be sure we updated you all on how we were doing. Sending love back your way.
-M
I glad you guys made it through ok. I’m on the east side of San Antonio and came out unscathed... my home is right next to a water treatment plant, and I think that saved my home from the outages. Big hugs to you all.
It was a struggle, but we survived! I’m glad you came out unscathed ❤️. Sending hugs back your way!
-M
Totally feel for you guys, Toronto went through an ice storm in 2013 and I was exactly the same, the whole family in blankets on mattresses in from of the fire place for days just waiting for the power to come back on. And the hour you spend at a neighbours to get a hot shower/charge is the most human you feel in days. Sending hugs, what a mentally and physically exhausting few days to go through!
That’s so wild. I’m sorry you and your family had to go through that. You’re so right. That hour or two of warmth we got at her friends place was amazing. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts.
-M
Ten Thousand Villages! LOVE! Also, 4Ocean has mask cages. LOVE THEM! Keeps my glasses from fogging. & best part, made from ocean & recycled plastic & they clean a pound of trash out of waterways. Sending all my love & positive & warm vibes
We love Ten Thousand Villages and 4Ocean! I’ll have to look into those mask cages. That sounds great! Thank you for the love and positivity. We’re sending love back your way!
-M
Did the outdoor cats ever come back? I worry about all the domesticated animals outdoors in all that. Sending love to you and to everyone struggling with the snowpocalyse.
They did! I was so worried about them bc I built them a whole ass compound and then the power went out and they didn’t have their heater 🥺 but they all made it! So all good. -S
Thank goodness!
This really just shows why Texas should not be on its own power grid and yes it does occasionally snow in Texas but not like this
Dude, so true!
-M
Another scariest times in my life . Trying to survive Harvey and now Ury. WTH Texas?
god telling y’all to leave b/c y’all local officials are selfish a’h regarding the power grid
Tell me about it. Living in Texas feels like one emotional roller coaster after another sometimes.
-M
You guys are soooo funny!😊. Those few days must have been so tough for you! Especially when you're not used to the cold and snow!
We do our best! They were rough, but we’re doing much better now!
-M
ugh this will always be one of the scariest experiences I had to live through. So glad you made it through ok!
This is my first time watching your guy's videos and I had to subscribe after hearing, "YOU AINT PUTTING THAT IN THE BUICK!!"
Haha, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Welcome to the channel, friend :)!
-M
Madison started rapping and i smashed the like button, shelbi started rapping and I wish i could do it again
Dang, friend. You’re the real MVP. Thank you, love.
-M
Madison: “I feel so alive!” 🤣🤣🤣. Love you guys, stay safe!
It’s the little things that get me going these days 😂. Love you too. Will do!
-M
I'm in Texas too but in El Paso and were not on the same grid. I'm so glad you all made it through okay.
I heard about El Paso being ok because of this. Glad you're warm. Hopefully changes will be made for the rest of our state. 💗
@@vintagedoll4850 I agree. I have lots of family in Dallas and Houston they were okay too thankfully. It's so heartbreaking though.
Thank you so much!
-M
omg i just noticed y'all's views went UP! congrats!! love the video
I guess everyone wanted to make sure we were ok! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
-M
My prayers are for all if Texas. 💘 you guys, please stay safe as much as you can. Texas has a special place in my heart. My sister and her ex-husband lived in spring Texas near the military base since he was in the army.
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts! Thank you, we will! I hope they’re both doing alright. Last week was pretty crazy!
-M
I have a Ten Thousand Villages where I grew up. I love them. Glad you guys stayed safe
Their store is pretty awesome. We love them too! Thank you ❤️.
-M
I'm glad to see you're doing alright. After even our local radio show in rural Germany had the situation in Texas in the news, I got worried about you.
We knew we had to update you all to let y’all know how we were doing. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts.
-M
You all got through that with flying colors, true survivors! I checked the weather app.for Houston (I live in Wisconsin) for today 2-20-2021 and it looks like your warm weather has returned! Thanks for updating us on how you're all doing, I'm glad you're alright.
I know it’s so crazy. It went from snowing on Thursday to like 65 degrees today. It’s been a pretty wild week. You’re so welcome. We didn’t want you all to worry. We appreciate you keeping us in you in your thoughts.
-M
So glad you both survived !!!! Love Shelbi’s 😂 laugh & Madison you are a natural born comedian- the soil adventure had my in stitches 🤣😂
Us too. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. Her laugh is pretty awesome & thank you for such a nice compliment. The soil bit was pretty hilarious.
-M
Omg they should build for any weather everywere. Sorry for your situation right now and at the same time we have the same cold and snow here in Sweden but here nothing happens for it. So happy for that hope your cold and snow disapeare soon. Its mealting here right now. Take care💙❄💕
That would be nice, but it would be so expensive. Which I’m sure is why they haven’t done it yet. Thank you for your compassion. That makes sense, I’m sure it stays a lot colder there so things are weatherized properly to prevent failure! I think it’s all over. Believe it or not, we wore shorts all day today. Sending love your way.
-M
I’m glad that you guys are safe! My heart goes to you guys 💙
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts ❤️!
-M
Lots of thin layers. Silk and linen next to the skin and wool as a top layer as it won't wick away from the skin. Good luck xxx
Thank you so much for the tips, Aileen! We really appreciate them 😊.
-M
So glad you're all okay, must have been a worrying time especially as you've never experienced any of that before 💜
Oh getting the soil & Brittany rapping WAP, I laughed so much it was too much 🤣🤣🤣🤣 poor Tippy, he was looking so longingly at the door when Shelbi took him outside to see the snow 😂 much love to you guys X
It was a pretty crazy week. We’re hanging in there though. It was pretty stressful.
I’m glad we put a smile on your face. I always love when you all share the parts of the video that made you giggle. Haha, he was wanting to go back inside so badly. Sending love back your way.

Literally the best vlog ever 💚 Thanks for sharing the fun and the trials.
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
-M
Thought about you guys all week, I was so worried. So glad you survived 💗
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts ❤️!

This was so scary to watch. We have these kinds of things in New England but are fully prepared for it when it happens. Like realizing your pipes outside aren't even insulated, people don't own car scrapers or winter clothes. You guys did really well though, that you thought to hang blankets on windows and all stay in 1 space to keep warm. Stay safe and warm!
We did our best. This caught us completely off guard, but I’m glad it appears we did well. Those survival instincts kicked in I guess. Thank you, will do!
-M
Glad y'all stayed safe through this. Thanks for the video (and I love the music in this one btw).
Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts! You’re so welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed the music. I wanted it to be sad, but not too sad.
-M
This is so crazy! It's great to see that you guys are fine, but it's devastating what happens all over Texas. Stay safe!
I really hope the outdoor cats are doing okay :(
I know, it is pretty crazy. We were very fortunate. There are definitely plenty of people who have suffered a lot of devastation all over Texas. They’re alive and well. We’ve laid eyes on each of them after the storm past ❤️.
-M
This was a lovely upload...great to see you all safe and sound 😊❤️
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts.

Man what a week!! Hi from Louisiana! We were snowed in the whole week! Roads were a disaster.. thankful we had power and water though. We got about 5-6 inches of snow and ice. Glad y’all are safe!
Hi 🙋🏽♀️! So thankful you all had power and water through the storm. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts.

I’ve been thinking of you guys, hoping you are safe. 🙏🏿 Oh and Shelbi’s sister and Madison killed that challenge! 🤣
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts! Haha, I’m glad you enjoyed that little bit.
-M
Madison you are so freaking hilarious. Not sure if I'm over tired from finishing night shift this morning, but I was cry laughing with the soil incident 😂😂😂😂
Haha, I’m glad you enjoyed that, friend 😂.
-M
I have family in Texas and my literal first thought when I saw the weather was “Oh no!! Poor Madison! She’s going to be so miserable!” I’m so glad you guys are all ok now and everything is getting back to normal. I’m so sorry you guys had to go through this! (Also Madison’s reaction to the guy coming toward your car with the soil was so funny!)
I hope your family is doing alright. This was such a hard week for so many Texans. I literally was so cold! Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts ❤️. Sending love your way.
-M
Great vlog. Sad... but thank you for uploading it. Coming from Ohio there is SO much I didn't realize regarding heating/houses/power grids in Texas. I've really taken for granted everything that keeps my house warm and cities that can quickly clear the snow from the roads. I'm glad to see that you all made it through. Hugs to you guys.
Thank you! You’re so welcome. We didn’t want you all to worry. Sending hugs and love back your way.

First time watching. Shelbi's laugh is everything
getting the soil was hilarious. you guys are so fun and cute together.
It was a pretty wild time. Thank you ❤️!
-M
Hope you guys are staying safe
Aimee thank you live in Houston and it was worst that I seen since I been there. I originally from Africa
Omg the soil thing was hilarious lol I couldn't stop laughing. I love y'alls channel. This winter storm was crazy!!
I’m glad you enjoyed that bit haha. It was pretty crazy. I hope you and your family are safe.

So glad you all are safe. The s’mores dance was great. Totally something I would do. I hope it continues to get warmer. Stay safe.
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. Haha, good tasting snacks always make me dance. I think we’re in the clear. It was so warm today we actually wore shorts all day. Texas weather is pretty wild.

Just stumbled on to yall's video, by accident. 7 minutes into 1 video and I had to subscribe! Tractor picking up dirt, "You ain't puttin that in the Buick!!!" And you guys with 3 tiny containers! 🤣🤣🤣 Oh my goodness, I fricken lost it! 🤣🤣🤣 Haven't even reached the winter storm part of this video!
Yaaasss, thanks for subscribing. Welcome to the channel, friend. Haha, that was so much dirt. I’m glad we put a smile on your face 😊

The sunlight helps heat a space. In my experience it's more important to let the sunlight in than to block the windows from leaking heat out. Put towels/pool noodles on the window sill to help.
I know it sounds counter intuitive, but the sunlight will help you a lot. I promise.
btw that cat/cactus blanket is life
We totally took the blankets and stuff down during the day, eventually, to let the sunlight in, but put them back up at night to keep the cold it. It was such a tough week!
Haha, Shelbi’s sister loves cats and cati so it made sense.
-M
glad to see you're safe and have power. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
Thank you! You’re so welcome!
-M
Thank you for sharing and good luck with this full experience you're all being put into.
IDEAS from an Austin friend:
- put out containers to collect snow to use as fresh or grey water
- grey water collection for things like flushing toilet, watering plants
- using yoga mats unrolled in windows for insulation
- using bubble wrap in windows for insulation
- sleep in a tent inside
IDEAs from NYC (me):
- clear shower liners in a bungee cord in windows let light in, cold out (I reuse these each year)
- keep a thermos by the stove, put leftover boiled water in to use later for tea/coffee
- hot water bladder is great to keep bed warm overnight if you got it (or boiling water in a glass jar wrapped well in a towel)
- solar charger if you got it
Ideas don't always work for everyone, you know what works for you best.
Thank you so much for the tips. They’re greatly appreciated!
-M
I just stumbled across this video and I love it! Y'all had me laughing! I live near that place you got the dirt from so thanks now I know how it is inside. I'm glad you thought to put your food in the garage. So many people were complaining all their food went bad, I'm like? I put mine in the backyard and a cooler...
I’m glad we gave you a good laugh! Oh cool, I’m glad you know what it looks like now. Right?? It just made since to do that since it was so cold out. I hope you and your family fared well during the storm. We’re sending positive vibes your way!

You guys are great!! Shoutout to San Antonio RUclipsrs!!!! found ya'lls channel after making my snovid video
Thank you so much! Hey, we see you fellow SA RUclipsr 😊. I hope you fared well during the storm. Sending much love your way and hoping we never have to deal with that again.

YOU ARE THE FUNNIEST PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR VLOGS!
Thank you so much!

I hope y’all are super healthy & safe. :-)
That snow was fun but also a tough storm. 💀
Thank you! We’re hanging in there! It was such a tough storm. We’re so glad it’s over.

We have a dirt place like that near us and we love it! We take our plastic storage bins in our Prius and load them up with shovels. Our city also composts human waste from the sewer and allows us to pick it up for free to use in the garden. Its awesome!
That’s so cool! I’d never been to a place like that before, but I loved it. Wow, I wish our city had something like that. That’s pretty rad!

Sorry you guys have to go through this. I’m in NJ so kinda used to this(college in Maine helped). I’m the “it’s not if, it’s when” person. Advice after the fact-candles in front of mirrors make more light, & head torches. Not so zerowaste-I buy Arizona Green Tea in the gallon jugs bc of the container. I have 3 filled with water behind my bathroom door. On a lighter note-good price for the soil. Brought back a memory of my dad going to the conservation center with paper bags to fill with compost for our garden. 🤦🏼♀️Long comment😂. Sending you guys lots of hugs and love ❤️❤️
Yeah, we’ll definitely have to see if we can’t find some solar powered equipment for if this ever happens again. Thanks for the tips. That’s so funny that your dad did that haha. Sending love and hugs right back your way.

That rendition was pretty great!
It was pretty scary. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts!

Happy you all got the power back on. Get that food! And stay safe 🤗👍🏻
It hasn’t gone back off so far! Will do 😊!

If you’re ever worried about the power going out & losing access to water (in the city it usually stays on even when power goes out) fill up your bath tub beforehand in preparation. In addition to drinking water, that way you have sth to wash dishes with, flush the toilet & wash hands. If you need extra water for washing hands, etc you can take it out of the toilet tanks too.
If you have any bubble wrap (or imperfect foods packaging would be perfect) it is great for the draftiest windows and doors. If an exterior door isn’t sealed enough to keep the heat out literally shut the door on the bubble wrap- it helps!
Honestly for food outside you can store it right on the back porch in a cooler or in the trunk of your car- if you see that the temps are at or below fridge temp it will be fine. Using a cooler makes it a little more stable though, if it warms up outside for a couple hours it will stay at temp in the cooler. You could even pack the cooler with snow. Another thing you can do is freeze gallons or big containers of water by leaving them outside and keep those in your fridge.
Love from MI. You guys had no way of being ready for this and your strategies were really good ones. Let’s hope it doesn’t continue to happen.
Thank you so much for the tips. We’ll definitely need them for when/if this happens again.
Yeah, we had no idea this was going to happen. We did our best though.

@@ShelbiMadison you guys pretty much did everything i would do & I grew up where this weather & outages are a regular occurrence (not for that long though!!!) so I was very impressed! I remember my aunt used to boil snow on the stove to have water to wash dishes with (probably not very hygienic 😂) & when I moved to the city I was like “omg big storm’s coming we have to fill up the bathtub”... and we had water the whole time!
That you guys even put up a vlog after the week you’ve had is amazing!! Thank you for showing us all the feels of a week of H E🏒 🏒 (these hockey stick emojis are facing the wrong direction🙄). Also, despite never having to deal with such an extreme storm for your city, you handled everything so well!! I mean, s’mores are one thing, but towels under doors and in windows...that’s a pro level response!!
Aaaaand...Madison’s rap skills are next level 😂
Thank you! We’re hanging in there. We did our best. I think we all just kicked in to survivor mode. Haha, I’m glad you enjoyed that.

That epic snow and ice event was massive. It hit Oklahoma and especially where I live Northeastern Oklahoma hard. But, we are use to this kind of event. The last couple of years we had snow which kind of absent for a few years. Texas even said that housing and infrastructure was not made for those kinds of temperatures. Not to mention the traffic accident on I-35 that morning. Many people lost there lives in the accident and in their homes. Learned lessons. Be safe....glad you all survived this.
Watching this crisis unfold in Texas has really put some things into perspective for me. I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life. As Minnesotans, we complain about the cold and the snow every year, but realistically, it’s not much of a danger to us because we’re prepared for it. It’s colder and snowier here than it has been in Texas, but our infrastructure is built for that. Our community lives in expectation of that. We all own winter gear (boots, mittens, coats, etc.), shovels, ice picks, and other necessities for the weather. I can’t imagine experiencing snow for the first time in my life and not being prepared. I’m so sorry y’all had to go through this. Much love from snowy Minnesota 💙
Yeah, it’s definitely a whole different ball game when you’re prepared! It was a rough week for Texas, but we’re hanging in there. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. We’re sending love your way.

Glad you made it through that nightmare. Been watching from CT on the news really sad how many people are having such a hard time. Hint you can also put food in cooler outside and pack snow around it if you lose power again. We lost power for 8 days in an ice storm. None of our food went bad. Gas stoves are awesome.
Us too, it sucked pretty bad! So many people are having a hard time. We had a rough week, but we were still very fortunate. Thanks for the tip! Hopefully this doesn’t happen again, but if it does that’s good information. Gas stoves are pretty rad!

It was fun seeing you all enjoy the snow for the first little bit! It can be magical!
It was so magical!

I have been so worried for y'all 💖

Definitely purchasing a solar generator after this whole experience.
Yeah I love my solar generator, but it was so expensive, I even bought it used.
@@strawbraryliberry4604 I know, they are pricey but I live in a hurricane zone and apparently we are starting to have winters here that our grids can not handle. I am in louisiana and all around me, people were without power due to rolling blackouts.
I can run a solar generator indoors.whichnis good in the city were everything that is not bolted down, walks. The last generator that I purchased was stolen from under my house.
Jeez, I think we might too. They’re pretty pricey! Def worth it though I’m sure. It would have been so nice to have one this week.
-M
Kerosene or propane heater is more useful for average people. They heat a large room, and some, you can cook on top of them. There wasn't much sunshine at all to power a solar generator unless you have those house systems that cost tens of thousands of dollars and have lots of batteries.
Tippy looking back through the door window is hilarious
Haha, that was pretty funny!
-M
So glad you have power, again! Keep hearing awful stories from Texas. Stay warm, sweet ladies.
Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. This really sucked, but we were are also very fortunate. Thank you ❤️.
-M
I think we all had this mood swing. Yay, omg snow! Brrrr....yup i don't think I like the snow. I know I'd love it more if we weren't on Ercot. Glad everyone is warm and safe. It looks to only get warmer, thankfully!
Yeah, everyone definitely did have that mood swing. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. We’re already back in shorts believe it or not.

I live in San Antonio aswell and me and my girlfriend went thru the xact same thing. luckily her sister that lives 4 blocks down never lost power so we went to stay with them. Glad I found yalls channel btw❤
That’s good! I’m glad you all had a place to go to ❤️. Welcome to the channel!

I enjoyed the snow in January in Austin, but this time around I got angry. I’m glad you had a short time to enjoy it before things went downhill. I’m sorry you experienced so much with the power outages. I’m going to finally go to the grocery store.
Also this was not a fun week to be using period pads...I can’t do laundry. Lol
Even using a menstrual cup was stressful bc we were conserving water and the standing water from the tub didn’t seem like the most sanitary towards the end. Now I’m kinda thinking about getting a pack of tampons for my hurricane survival kit 😕
Yeah, we were angry too this time around. It was nice to enjoy it before things went downhill though. We all know it doesn’t snow often in Texas. The outages sucked so bad, but we pulled through. Good luck at the grocery store. I’m sure things have probably calmed down a bit, but were definitely hectic for the last couple of days.
Oh man, tell me about it. Sometimes the struggle is so real!
-M
So glad you guys are safe! Was honestly worrying about you and the cats x
Us too ❤️. I appreciate your compassion. We’re doing much better now with the heat on and the temperature warming up.
