I had the same issue that I have seen a few other struggling with, that the sorter only works for one item at a time, and if you put 2 or more items in, they will get stuck in the first dropper. Turns out that I had the observer of the leftmost item elevator facing the wrong direction! It is the one being placed at 12:18 in the video. I switched it to have the face upwards, and now it works like a charm! A really lovey build!
The classy music, the shaders, the fantastic explanations, the helpful diagrams, there’s nothing bad about this video. THIS is the MOST PERFECT redstone tutorial I’ve ever seen in my entire life. That’s an instant sub right there
Thank you so much for building in survival!! It’s so frustrating when people give build instructions while showing in creative, flying around.. but expect you to follow along while in survival... Thank you!
If i understood it right, you can make that smaller/taller in height by removing layers of observer+rails and redstone torch towers and copy the same thing horizontally by changing the chest input chest by the hopper at the end. I just want to make this 3 chest high and very long...
Depending on how much work you want to put into it, you might want to check out Rapscallion's design ruclips.net/video/v769IxaKLD4/видео.html . It's much more complicated but in the end you don't have to worry about keeping all of the chests full.
I just made this sorter and I love it. Ya, forgetting torches is bad, forgot one myself so had a tick, but two people helped me out there. Love it! Just takes a while to add the stuff.
Where's mistake in upper hopper level. You need to build 3 hoppers in the left direction (add one defore chests and move another two left). Else loot would be cycling around 3rd chest column
The cross section diagram is fantastic, I’d suggest putting the number each repeater is set to though next to it because it’s kinda hard to see tbh, and maybe even a + and - in the future if builds require subtract mode on comparators for any reason but it’s actually wonderful🙌
Gnembom is a wizard, this is one of the most complicated item sorters i've seen (cubfan's xibalba wins I think). I don't think I have the patience to build something like this but the video was great!
Previously I built Tango's multi item sorter. That one is even more difficult than this, and takes up a lot more space. This is just pure genius and believe it or not, very player friendly:D
1:03 this is genius, I usually have to pause and rewind bits like that, but that graph thing really helps, I love mysticat tutorials, they may now cover everything, but if i have the option, I will always take it
As long as you follow the tutorial exactly and very carefully, this still works perfectly fine in 1.19. You do however need to make sure you do the fix mentioned in the pinned comment above. Built this in my survival world it is super compact and reliable as long as its built and used correctly :)
Do you have any idea why my observer won't face the right way with the dot facing to repeater? The dot keeps facing upwards no matter what I do? Sorry for commenting on your comment, wasn't sure if anyone would see my question
@@kirstyedwards8975 you're too close to the repeater and/or are placing the observer on the ground, not the repeater. Stand as far back as possible while being able to reach and point your mouse at the side of the repeater. Shift click place. Boom it should be facing the repeater now
I may have said that backwards it's been awhile and I'm not going to rewatch the video. If the dots facing the wrong way still, do what I said but on a block opposite from the repeater so it's facing the other way if that makes sense
If your items get stuck in the first hopper: Follow the graph shown at 10:30 in the corner. He forgets to put redstone torches on the solid blocks above the first jack'o'lantern in the actual video, but they're shown here in the graph.

I'm in the process of building a giant non-multi item sorter because when I was starting with building, I couldn't find any good multi-item sorter designs. And now, when I'm like 2/3 done with my sorting system, this genius design pops up in my recommendations. It's a bit depressing knowing that this design would be much better to build but also that I have already spent way too much time working on my non-multi item sorter so if I wanted to rebuild it, the time spent would go to waste.
This is probably the first time I finished such a complex redstone build and actually kinda got what I was building. Also, probably the first time that it actually worked on try 1. Thanks man!
just built this in bedrock (creative mode) and found out droppers can activate from "quasi-connectivity" ONLY IN JAVA (that's how powered rails activate many of the hoppers) which means my item elevators don't work :( really wish youtubers would clarify when builds aren't compatible with one version or another - especially on a channel this well produced!! Ghaaa!!! I want to build practically everything on this channel but now I'm afraid most of your designs won't work in bedrock!
Other than the one incorrectly placed hopper that someone found a solution to, this is by far the best item sorting system I've seen. It's very practical and CORRECTLY DOES MULTIPLE ITEMS. Like, I don't want a full chest for feathers and a full chest for flint lmao. Great job
@@mysticat hey Mysti! Could you make a tutorial on Note blocks? I think a lot of people would like it and use it! Totally not trying to impress my SMP friends 😉
I wish there was more explanation regarding where items go, how they travel, and what's the logic behind the system. Just for future reference. It's great that you show us how to build it, but understanding the system is what makes us learn the redstone, not just copying blocks from you. 🙂
It's because he's just making a block-by-block tutorial over the gnembon's design, which can be really useful. For the long explanation about this sorter, you can check gnembon's video, linked in the description
what i dont like to this type of item sorter is, we should have much item filter, as much as it's slot on a chest (or double chest, also i recommend u to double chest it the front sideway for more space, but not as beautiful as face chest in the front) what i dont like to this type of item elevator is, yes its silent. but when it's full it wont work anymore. so we should keep elevator empty. other issue is, sometime item stuck in one of dropper.. why? because its only detect the bottom dropper so it will push item and left the last stucked. so we should check sometime. those just my opinion. but thats 2 contraption are suits to this bulky storage that doesnt meet that problem so much. as best as always.. i love this informative episode, rich of trivia, tips and trick, and also corner tips, survival friendly and practically.. oh.. also resource pack helps a lot! what i learned this episode is.. a couple simple solution for reduce lag. placing composter on a hopper, and keep lightsource from blinking redstone components.. question.. if we use another block than composter. is it still work as long as the top closed?
@Mysticat Two questions: 1. Can I make it shorter? Will it still work that way? 2. To make it wider, do I need to build this module multiple times, or can I increase the width and put hoppers and red stone circuitry in the same way?
i expanded it wider by using the output chest (the chest were will items go that dont have a place) and used that as a new input chest. aka all the items that go from the first storage and dont fit into the category will go into that chest. Which will act as an input chest and you can do everything from the start the same way. The only thing you wont do is the very last bit with slabs. This is the only thing you won't do. It will fit perfectly and you can place chests next to each other (i used double chests.) (no need for any borders if you dont feel like it) Btw this storage will be hugeeee
I attempted to make it shorter by a block either side, so the chest array is 7x6. I have had trouble with the red stone timing. Where built exactly the same timings, I ran into an issue where the items went straight into overflow. My closest result was making the repeater at the base of the elevator a 2 tick delay. This sorted any items that were assigned in a chest but all unassigned items went straight into overflow.
the music made this so much better cuz i prefer jazz to lo fi or smth so thats nice, and i really like that you did it in survival so 10/10 music and 10/10 tutorial.
There is a mistake in the design. You need to make the top left line of hoppers 1 longer before the right facing hopper. Then move the right facing hopper 1 further forward on the 2nd row at the top. Then move the right facing hopper 1 further forward on the 3rd row at the top. Then add a right facing hopper at the very back on the 4th row. Otherwise the items get stuck in the 4th line of elevators and cycle endlessly. Otherwise this is awesome! Great video.

I'd love to see a multi item sorter that is smaller, for working in small spaces. I've been trying to find one that is only 4 horizontal chests high that can be extended wider, but the few designs I've found don't work in 1.16.4.
the reason the items get stuck near the input chest is because the block under a certain hopper is powered and it locks the hopper so items cant go in the dropper. that is y it does not work on bedrock. but i made it on java and it works perfectly and good job mysticat.
For some reason when I put items into the system every once in a while a few items skip a chest and don't go into the chest they should be sorted into. There is definitely space for them and I checked the repeater and comparator system underneath the entire system and everything seemed to be right. Any ideas?
Thanks for the awesome tutorial. Just built this in 1.18 and it still works fine! I made some silly mistakes but was able to fix it and it's working great!

the problem is, that the dispenser on the top is facing forvard, just like the others, and if you place the dispenser on the top, in the 4rd row(the one before the gap)it has to look sideways, where the hopper is (sorry for the mistakes, i'm not good at english)

This item sorter is great. I had to fix a dropper (the one you mentioned in your pinned comment) This thing works great. I just made myself a bunch of filler items (book and quill's just named 'filler') to pad out all my chests so I can organize things how I want. Works perfect.
It is not an automatic itemsorter You have to manually have the items sorted in the chests, but only one per stack. Ones you have your chest filled with the items you want, then all the items you put in the sorter get 'sorted' to the place you assigned it to.
@@StarWarsExpert_ Yeah. If I understand correctly, all this system does is rotate the item trough every hopper at the back of every chest, so that, when there is place for the item in question, it wil go there. But it there isnt any room, it will try the next chest ext. So you want to fill every chest with every item you want to store, and have no blank spots because that is where the next random item is going to go. So no blankspots and all filled. What i mean by filled is that the chest must be filled with for example cobblestone, but only one item per place so that the next 63 cobblestone can get 'sorted' to that chest. So in theory you could have 54 different items per double chest stored. But keep in mind you always leave one item if you want to take the items out of the chest. Hope this helped
I've gone through the system, it was a really great guide except I seem to have made a mistake somewhere and can't figure out where. Items don't get stuck anywhere, it's actually the opposite! I have items miss chests. the first chest in the sorter full of powered rails, one in each slot, and then nothing else in the system. Most of the rails go into the first chest but about 25% seem to skip it. Sometimes getting as far as the second column of chests. I seem to have my repeaters all at the right time but a pesky creepy interrupted my work so I fear I may need to start over
@@Weckacore i think i may have the same problem as you had and i dont reallly understand how you fixed it, i kow its 7 months, but maybe you still remember and can explain more complex
@@kurt-io5xi the issue was partially highlighted in a comment. Basically a few of the hoppers that need to face to the side dont. In the top the right half should gonsidewise in a line, and similarly the bottom left
Just thought you'd like to know: I found a way to speed up the item elevator, without messing up the items in waterstreams: Put the repeater on top of the observer to 1 tick, and the repeater looping back into the torches to 3 ticks. That way the items get sent up as fast as possible, without burning out the torches. Any setting between this and the 4-tick:4-tick setting works, just at different speeds.
I have an issue with items getting stuck in random droppers, like out of 64 items perhaps 4-5 will get stuck in a random dropper each time, are you experiencing this?
I'm not actually going to build this, I actually just clicked it cuz I thought it looked cool, and I've built a "multi-sorter" in previous worlds and wanted to see if yours is any different... The only reason I'm typing this comment out is to say, again, I love SOOO MUCH, how you will put little overlay diagrams of the redstone circuits and such. You are still the only person I've seen do this, and I think it's just the bee's knees

I just built this in a red stone testing world and it works fine. I built it on an SMP and the first three modules works, but items keep looping in the dropper elevator before the gap. I replaced the hoppers on top and it’s still doing it, and the hoppers on that side of the module on the bottom only go in one direction. Can’t figure out the issue.
@@rubengussinklo4638 I figured out my problem, and I didn’t see it or missed it in the instructions. When you’re placing the droppers that face in on top of the item elevator, that gap where you put a hopper between the droppers where they go over to the chests, you have to turn that dropper to point into the hopper in the gap. @6:13 those hoppers that go straight across with the forward facing dropper cause the loop. Just turn that dropper towards the gap.
@@Milan125Videos I’m not sure how to share images in the RUclips comments, but at 5:50 the dropper he faces forward before the gap needs to be turned to face the gap. It’ll feed into the hopper that goes there later.
This is reliable for items colored which may not have to be sorted every time (eg. colored items, slabs, etc). And this method can be combined with regular sorting items that have to be sorted every time (eg. dirt, stone, etc). The conclusion is : Instead making more than 1000 each sorting items using a regular one, combine with this MULTI SORTING SYSTEM's could save huge spaces and time.

Thank you, I was searching a lot for a big automatic storage system, this is exactly that i need ... I'm using a lot of builds from you in my survival world and everything works perfect ... thank you and keep up doing this
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
These tutorials are really helping me understand Redstone. One thing that might make them even better is each section you do you also explain what this does in the redstone contraption. For instance the Hopper stallers, I think explaining what those do might make the videos better!
I personally disagree, but only if you mean in the same video as the tutorial. The reason I love his tutorials is how straight to the point they jump into me being able to just do the build. He makes what most youtubers would take a 30 minute video into a 5 or 10 minute video. I think he'd be really great at teaching and explaining the theory behind it but it would be better as a separate series to me.
So can you explain which repeaters I have to change for the hoppers to stall longer? Every item just goes to the overflow chest
Really like the new info graphics in the top right corner. Very helpful.
Thanks! They're usually at the top left, but I like this better

Now it's working like it's supposed to. There's a small mistake in this design, where items get stuck in a loop in the third line of droppers from the right.
Oh my lord, thank you! I never would've caught that mistake if it wasn't for you. Much appreciated! :D
Thank you so much! I’ve been rebuilding three times, couldn’t figure out what went wrong😅
The classy music, the shaders, the fantastic explanations, the helpful diagrams, there’s nothing bad about this video. THIS is the MOST PERFECT redstone tutorial I’ve ever seen in my entire life. That’s an instant sub right there
loved this tutorial, it's very detailed, funny and well explained. Best redstone tutorial I've seen so far! You've got my sub!
I want the same, just a simple 3x3 Storage System which is completely automatic. Why is there no tutorial for it??
I just made this sorter and I love it. Ya, forgetting torches is bad, forgot one myself so had a tick, but two people helped me out there. Love it! Just takes a while to add the stuff.
10:05 Duude my heart.. its 3:25am now im sitting so strait in my chair xD
Built this sorter today and it works, but the FIX mentioned above is needed. Good and clear video. Thank you.
Take a look at cubicmetre or rapscallion if you want your mind blown...
Thankyou, I have to get rid of the hoppers behind me and re do them in order to step far enough away! Thanks so much!

Don't buy into the sunk cost fallacy.
Me:"So how many repeaters do we need"
Mysticat:"Yes."
This is probably the first time I finished such a complex redstone build and actually kinda got what I was building. Also, probably the first time that it actually worked on try 1. Thanks man!
just built this in bedrock (creative mode) and found out droppers can activate from "quasi-connectivity" ONLY IN JAVA (that's how powered rails activate many of the hoppers) which means my item elevators don't work :(
really wish youtubers would clarify when builds aren't compatible with one version or another - especially on a channel this well produced!!

For the long explanation about this sorter, you can check gnembon's video, linked in the description
what i dont like to this type of item sorter is, we should have much item filter, as much as it's slot on a chest (or double chest, also i recommend u to double chest it the front sideway for more space, but not as beautiful as face chest in the front)
what i dont like to this type of item elevator is, yes its silent. but when it's full it wont work anymore. so we should keep elevator empty. other issue is, sometime item stuck in one of dropper.. why? because its only detect the bottom dropper so it will push item and left the last stucked. so we should check sometime.
those just my opinion. but thats 2 contraption are suits to this bulky storage that doesnt meet that problem so much.
as best as always.. i love this informative episode, rich of trivia, tips and trick, and also corner tips, survival friendly and practically.. oh.. also resource pack helps a lot!
what i learned this episode is.. a couple simple solution for reduce lag. placing composter on a hopper, and keep lightsource from blinking redstone components..
question.. if we use another block than composter. is it still work as long as the top closed?
I always fill my chests with items anyways and organize them by hand lol. Yeah, you can use anything hoppers can read on top
The tutorial is insane with the instructions in the top corner
@Mysticat Two questions:
1. Can I make it shorter? Will it still work that way?
2. To make it wider, do I need to build this module multiple times, or can I increase the width and put hoppers and red stone circuitry in the same way?
got the same question
i expanded it wider by using the output chest (the chest were will items go that dont have a place) and used that as a new input chest. aka all the items that go from the first storage and dont fit into the category will go into that chest. Which will act as an input chest and you can do everything from the start the same way. The only thing you wont do is the very last bit with slabs. This is the only thing you won't do. It will fit perfectly and you can place chests next to each other (i used double chests.) (no need for any borders if you dont feel like it)
Btw this storage will be hugeeee
I attempted to make it shorter by a block either side, so the chest array is 7x6. I have had trouble with the red stone timing. Where built exactly the same timings, I ran into an issue where the items went straight into overflow. My closest result was making the repeater at the base of the elevator a 2 tick delay. This sorted any items that were assigned in a chest but all unassigned items went straight into overflow.
the music made this so much better cuz i prefer jazz to lo fi or smth so thats nice, and i really like that you did it in survival so 10/10 music and 10/10 tutorial.

This is surprisingly easy to follow, considering how complicated it is. First video that hasn't scared me away

This item sorter is great. I had to fix a dropper (the one you mentioned in your pinned comment) This thing works great. I just made myself a bunch of filler items (book and quill's just named 'filler') to pad out all my chests so I can organize things how I want. Works perfect.
Mysticat, I have a question: How do I configure the Iteam Sorter? Like, how do I decide in what chest comes which iteam?
It is not an automatic itemsorter
You have to manually have the items sorted in the chests, but only one per stack. Ones you have your chest filled with the items you want, then all the items you put in the sorter get 'sorted' to the place you assigned it to.
@@botenbouwer you mean, I have to fill all the spots in the chests? If I want a chest full of cobble, I need cobble on every slot of the chest.
This is like Tangos design but a million times better. Props to you
I've gone through the system, it was a really great guide except I seem to have made a mistake somewhere and can't figure out where. I seem to have my repeaters all at the right time but a pesky creepy interrupted my work so I fear I may need to start over
If anyone else is an idiot like me: if you count the third hopper at the top for the input starting from the wrong side you break everything.

Just thought you'd like to know: I found a way to speed up the item elevator, without messing up the items in waterstreams: Put the repeater on top of the observer to 1 tick, and the repeater looping back into the torches to 3 ticks. Any setting between this and the 4-tick:4-tick setting works, just at different speeds.
