I'm gobsmacked by this performance the best I have ever seen, I have never seen this before and I'm very pleasantly surprised. Stephen Still is one of my favorite Artists
The first time I heard this song, was at Carnegie Hall in 1971? Stephen asked the crowd to leave in silence when the song finished, we did. A sold out Audience, left in silent protest to end the war and give homage to those who were missing or passed.
Thank you for sharing this searing memory. This song is truly a hymn of mourning, asking why. Tears again as I remember friends who were killed in Viet Nam. Piercing harmonies. Sharing this again on this Veterans Day / Armistice Day 2024.
May the knowledge of our great grannies & pa's -- Ancestors, serve to remind us to love one another. How many died for you to live here free? Never take anything for granted or you will loose it.
This song was my Theme song when I was a a 60's hippie. I saw all these wonderful brothers and sisters in concert. Jimi Joplin ....so so many. Now I am 74 but I'm still a hippie. Just an old one. I wouldn't trade that time of my life for anything...Peace man❤
CSN & Y are just about the entire soundtrack of my adult life. This recording makes me jealous. I wish, so much, that I was there in person to hear it ...
Steven is one of the most soulful inspiring musicians to ever play a six string . I thank him Eric, and Stevie Winwood for giving me a lifetime of musical enjoyment.
I love the way Stills gets all of those trippy sounds out of an acoustic guitar. Still gives me the brain shivers after all these years. Then there is the classic 1960s poetry and vocals thing that he does. One of the great American artists of all time according to this curmudgeonly old veteran who served during that era. Heard he is still around and touring. Another 60s survivor still doing his thing.
For sure ! His guitaring skills can put a lot of the better known ‘ guitarists’ to shame . As a songwriter / poet his lyrics have inspired me over the years . I was lucky to have got to watch CSN in concert in Singapore in 2016! That was a mind blowing concert for me !
i like stills, but he is over-rated really, mainly he was in the right place at the right time, and took advantage of it, which is a accomplishment in it's own right. maybe that's what he should be admired for....
He was very creative....as guitarists go he wasn’t near the top of the list...if you believe he was you’re either in denial of truth or you just don’t know who the greats are....
I was moving to Northern California, and my sister & I went to see a last concert together....it was Steve Stills and Manassas....in some big LA area, with seating !....he was fabulous of course...and when they ended the concert with this song, we were rendered speechless, as was the rest of the audience....notice you could hear a pin drop.....it haunted me for years...My first true love had returned safely (!) from the Nam, by this time....but it was time for me to go to art school...I cannot hear this song without questioning whether I did the right thing ....52 years later, we still love each other but our paths have gone down such separate roads...we can just talk on the phone every few weeks....it still hurts....
Your story could be a verse from this song from a Bob Dylan song. Did the right thing? Oh the questions we ask ourselves in the quiet times. You admit you ask. Most don't. I have one of many answers for you, "yes, you did the right thing, you have love in your life."
I made a similar choice, off to school 1800 miles away, leaving a lover behind. The last night ended poorly. We’ve neither seen nor spoken to each other. More than 40 years has passed. All I know is our lives are nothing alike, but still I wonder if I’d made a different choice, maybe we’d still have what we had that summer so long ago.

Just love this era Stills. His voice really shone on this acoustic stuff, so effortless, and incredible guitar playing. He inspired me as a kid, so much, to learn guitar and to write music. The first show I ever saw was in 1972 i think, Manassas at Carnegie Hall - I was 12.
What a wonderful introduction to Rock n Roll. My son's first at 11, was The Who. Yep, you two Won't Get Fooled Again. I've seen Steven, Neil, CSNY lots of times!
I heard Steven Stills at a concert in Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana, in the '70s. He was on the floor of this sports arena, surrounded by 5000 audience members. He was playing softly, but it was so still in that place, it felt like he was pulling everyone's heartstrings with every pluck of his magic guitar. So powerful and moving! I will never forget it!
Love this track. I'm a fan of Neil Young, and through this I found Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and just how amazing Stephen Stills is. Black Queen is another great acoustic that I love of his. Wish I could play like that, instead of just rythmn. Brilliant. ✌️
Wow what a find ! That night I walked from Winterland to the bus terminal off of Market street, was a long cold walk but the cost of freedom made my steps lighter. For one night all the problems of the world were put aside. San Francisco has a soul of it's own. I found it in the cold mist, the sweet sweet smells , the music and the love of the people. Peace my brothers and sisters.
Just lost my dear dear friend today - this song always helps to ease the loss. I always play it on the piano when I need to and today I needed to for my Dear Rod.
Just outstanding...every time I drive by the battlefields here I think of this song in my mind. Stephen Stills Civil War afficiando and historian. Carry On!

The heart, humility and music of this man will live on for generations...CSNY is the greatest band of all time for me...thankful I was introduced to their music...
I remember staying overnight with my best friend "Monkey Man" at his cousin's dorm at the University of Virginia, when we both attended James Madison University. We watched Stephen Stills and his band Manassas in 1972 at the University of Virginia. One of the best concerts I ever attended, even if I was high...
Hey Steven, do you remember the song. “Black Queen”? It was on Stephen Still’s solo album circa 1970. The album jacket listed Steve as saying he dedicated this song to Jose Cuerpo because He was smashed when he played that acoustical
Black Queen is one of my favorite cuts. Raucous and wild! The best acoustic playing ever as well as a cleverly worded lyric with the double entendre on the title. Also that album(Stills’ 1st solo album) features a host of legendary musicians. To name a few from memory: organist, Booker T. ; Mama Cass; Eric Clapton; Jimi Hendricks; and many others throughout.

It' better than any other recording ...
I have always thought Steven Stills was never appreciated appropriately. So talented….
This is why I loved this decade more than the others. It seemed everyone cared and gave a shit.

He has not toured since 2018 with Judy Collins.
This old vet is still haunted, so you're not alone.
Steven Still and David Crosby are the best acoustic guitar players there are. RIP David Crosby.
My favorite singer. The most under appreciated singer songwriter and guitarist of a generation.
