The chances of them all agreeing on the same weapons systems is very remote for years, the process will take years to agree on because every nation has its own geographical and environmental factors to feed in and that will lead to constant disagreement, vested interests, financial hurdles, and chaos. Weapons procurement on the scale and form they dream of cannot be done overnight no matter what they say in EU and NATO with their delusions of unity.

Interesting. I heard very clearly that his objective would be to focus defence on Asia and put Ukraine’s defence on the shoulders of Europe. He also said that the US is spending much more per capita on Ukraine support than Europe. He also said, that it is likely that negotiated peace is likely to include redrawn borders. Clearly, that is not so desirable from the perspective of Ukraine, and others, but it is “reality.” I didn’t necessarily like what I heard, but the message was clear.

@@ckthegreat100 Then why have we not had a major conflagration in Europe and only minor skirmishes elsewhere? NATO is the answer - and if the only country to invoke Article 5 walks away from it that gives Russia the green light to attack - especially as Donald Trump has said he would encourage Russia to attack! So, far from being the peace-making approach it would almost certainly trigger WWIII (or WWII in the Trump history of the World). My comment is very much that we should not be there for America when the time comes - as it will at some point. History has a nasty habit of repeating itself and at the moment we are in a 1938 situation. Europe has a couple of years to re-arm and get ready for a huge fight that will inevitably affect America and we must get rid of the weapons that are intended to back up America in the Middle and Far East - we won't need them if we are flat out fighting in Europe.

The $200 billion aid to Ukraine number is a lie -- the actual number is $80 billion versus $92 billion by Europe -- those are the facts (although $52 billion future U.S. aid has been promised at present). The U.S. is the #16 country in aid to Ukraine by GDP -- it's hardly sacrificing the most to help Ukraine. The military aid per year only represents 3% of the U.S. military budget, and most of the aid is old stocks that wouldn't be used by U.S. forces anyway (for example old cluster munitions that don't meet U.S. dud rate environmental standards, or older obsolete versions of equipment), so it really doesn't cost anything.
