I raced that night as well. That skyline was SICK, fully tubbed... the works. I think he was either new to racing it hard, or was going easy on it to not wreck it.
I had fun with my modified VW GTI on HPDE weekends. I wish I got the R for AWD. Many underestimate VW until the flag is green. I think the VW driver was sand bagging the launch and almost screwed up letting the Tesla get that much gap. He launched quicker against the corvette.
I reside in Cheyenne,Wyoming now. Will visit Colorado National Speedway a handful of times this year.Tuff trucks has been on the card at Clark for many years.I'm sure it will be the same for '23.
That track is almost a mile high in altitude. At that height, it takes a moment for the R to build any appreciable boost. The same thing has occurred at other tests of the R near Denver. But after the boost builds, the car gets darn fast.
The 2nd race is when I realized I needed to use launch control if I wanted to win this thing. That Tesla should have had me! I wasn't worried about the truck, so I didn't use launch control until the Skyline came up. That Skyline was super intimidating - full roll cage, some weird pipes coming out the hood, exhaust routed out the side...
Experienced track driver no doubt. MK7 R for the W!
you're joking right? Doesn't even know how to launch
Slept on every launch lol
Those are the heavy Cadiz stock wheels of the 2016 model, too.
VW R sales after this video 📈
The Golf driver looks nothing like I expected them to
Nice racing. That skyline was making all the fast and furious noises too.

@@quattobeast I think a mix of both. Super pumped to see him with more races under his belt, though. He's got one hell of a weapon on his hands.
Skyline had a passenger on board!
Go Golf R! Loved this.

Loved my 2008 Volkswagen GTI,the launch control on it was stupid good!!
Damn on stock rims lol
MK7R crew!
Undoubtedly, mes amis, that VW has "the Track Package "...with a turbocharger.
Launches are non existent
You coming back brother? Also, are they bringing back the tuff trucks at clark county?

That golf driver really needs to learn how to launch a golf lol

@@al_in_philly5832 I drove my mk6R at altitude. It launched harder than this dude. This guy was afraid to burn clutch or something
Oh he knew how, notice the last two races? He just knew he didn't need to beat up his car with the slower competition.
No way, VW R is 4x4, the best! A trash Tesla?, He is crazy to drive with a shit. Only you can use it in straight line.
Stock Golf, or modded? Seems like more power than stock.
Stock is 300hp still !
@@egSmith-sp9gl still slow stock lol, only a mid 13 second car
I believe he says "it's got a Stage 2 tune" when talking to the announcer.
@@flob7345 it does - its full on nasty.
Think he said exhaust and tune at the end of the vid. That would put it roughly around 400hp at the crank.
Imagine a world where the Americans cheer for the German car (golf) and boo the only American made one (Tesla).
I mean there was a Corvette and a truck but ok
People cheer for what they think is the underdog.
@@black98rt right. It doesn’t matter who the manufacturer is. We just want to see something unexpected come out on top
"stock"
Yeah, definitely not stock but who cares
@@Bmr4life 100% not stock but still cool
The Tesla hate is hilarious.
Novalty cars
Really nothing compared to the self-hate the Tesla owner must have, bringing one of those junk boxes to a race circuit.
@@RichardStanton-c3j YEAH I KINDA HATE IT WHEN PEOPLES BRING SEWING MACHINES TO A ONE LAPPER…! 😅 😂
Sleeping on the flag in the 2nd and 3rd race.
Nah. I have i feeling he just didn't want to cause he went hard af on that skyline. Even did a launch.
Not sleeping. Took off soft on purpose

@@quarksoup6742 did you have any modifications done under the hood?
He would have no chance up here in new england
I watch those new england drags, i think the AWD would keep him right in there
I would not want a person in passenger seat to much added weight.
Are you butt hurt? You sound butt hurt. Lol
Golf R. AWD for ftw. 🏎🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tesla drive slammed the brakes around the first turn and in the back. Else Tesla should have had him easily.
@@ChrisHeffler Teslas aren't designed to be hustled around a track, whereas Golf Rs are. That goes for the chassis as well the brakes.
@@ChrisHeffler Golf R didn't launch either. If he had the Tesla would've lost even worse.
