This is one of my most favorite films ever. First of all, it treats Chicago not so much as a setting but as a costar. You get to see all sides of Chicago in the 1980s in this one (including the generally now defunct Maxwell Street, the scene of which features John Lee Hooker). One of the greatest musical numbers ever is "Shake Your Tail Feather" where you have a hundred or so dancers on the streets of Chicago, el train going by behind them, dancing to the sound of Ray Charles singing "Shake Your Tail Feather". It's great. Secondly, the majority of it it is just pure asburdism. Which is fantastic. The chase at the end that winds up at the Daley Center is fantastic. But probably the best thing about it is the music. They were so loving when it came to choosing the music and the artists for this one. From James Brown, to Cab Calloway (please, check out the glorious number for Cab Calloway in this), to Aretha Franklin to Ray Charles (who plays a blind music store owner...with a gun!) it helped in some respects relaunch the careers of these artists. And both Belushi and Aykroyd are so in love with that music that is only helps add to the whole energy of it all. Plus the fantastic Blues Brothers Band. It is one of those movies where I don't think anyone knew quite what to expect, but once you're in it, you're caught. And it's one of my favorite movies.
If James Brown and Chaka Khan were singing in church each week, they’d be packed. This was such a great movie with so many legends. Aretha Franklin in her restaurant scene great too
This was my favorite movie when i was growing up non Elvis. I can recite this movie backwards and forwards. John Candy was great as the Parole officer. Orange whips all around
I love the Blues Brothers film... they won't catch us ..we're on a mission from God! The clip that you showed cut into the next scene which has Sam and Dave's soothe me that would be great to see your reaction to that which is also an amazing track... thanks for the videos and thanks for the Christian witness!
I love Dan Akroyd & Jim Belushi.. and my bday is the exact same as James Brown so I also felt a kinship to him in a weird way, love him no matter what! 🖤
"We're on a mission from God." One of the interesting things about this movie was that James Brown, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin don't really sing their songs the same way every time. That's why the camera rarely spends much time on their faces for long periods of time. It was incredibly difficult to line up visuals of them singing their songs to match the final audio that was used. Anyway, I'm so happy you have seen this clip, and I sincerely hope that it has inspired you to watch the entire movie.
From IMDB: Some performers were not used to lip-syncing to pre-recorded songs, standard procedure for movie musicals. James Brown ended up singing his number live with a recorded backing (the rest of his choir was lip-syncing). John Lee Hooker's performance of "Boom Boom" was recorded live at Chicago's Maxwell Street Market. Aretha Franklin's performance is cut together from many, many takes, using the parts where her lip-syncing was actually in sync.
Still my favorite movie since 1980, nothing can knock it off the podium. I have it on laser disc, DVD and CD. It's a must see. I even have a steel poster on my wall that I see every morning when I wake up.
I saw this in the movie theater when it first came out, it was when I fell in Love with Aretha Franklin. She is my favorite female singer to this day! ❤💞
I never watch musicals, I don't rlly like them too much, and if Blues Brothers counts as a musical it is the one musical that I'd recommend to everyone cuz its phenomenal, so much fun and the music is just a joy to listen to any day
My Cousin James Brown💪🏾💯❤️. I never got a chance to meet him. But he was supposed to been at the 2006 Brown Family Reunion in Barnwell. But I still fuck with his Music and Just love hearing his voice (No homo). Rest On J.B.💪🏾💯🤎 #Barnwell, SC
Blues Brothers...classic greatness!💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜 😂😂😂😂😂 My favorite church services EVER were the once a month gospel service on base....I didn't have to sit still n be quiet!
@Steve Russell - Nah my brother, don't go spreading lies. Belushi was an incredible physical comedian, but that was not him doing these tumbling moves. Keep it real now, SMH
I've never been sure if he did that in the movie or not. But Belushi WAS known for doing such things in his standup. Kinda shock the audience that a guy his size could do cartwheels and such.
Ty..... John could do a cartwheel or two but flipping down the Isle that was a double for sure ! ! Great movie and one of my viewed 100X movies ! 😎 🎙 😎
My favorite movie of all time. I've been to a black baptist church once, loved it, not as "restricted" as a white baptist church. If you felt led to dance in the aisles, go ahead. On of the best experiences I ever had.
Awesome. I always wanted to attend a congregation like that. I went to Mass everyday before school & Sundays. Back then we had Mass in Latin & we sang in Latin. One special Christmas musicians came in & played violins & other instruments. That's as lively that our Masses ever got.
Mate, great reaction. This is my all time favourite film. Growing up in a non church going family I thought this was what church was all about, boy was I disappointed once I actually attended with a church going friend. You have to watch The Blues Brothers movie, maybe you could react to it? I doubt many young people even know it exists. Anyway keep up the great reactions.
I hope you got to see the whole movie. It's got so many wonderful musical performances by legends like Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles & Cab Calliway and the Blues Brothers themselves. 😎😎😎
The best movie EVER. Such pure talent and entertainment. I brainwashed my children from a young age by playing this film when they were kids...we watched it last week AGAIN! I can never get bored...know all the words to the movie! X superb. X BTW...love your channel...you got a new subscriber today...love the head rub when you recognise true talent. X 👏🏽👍🏽🥰🤣 thank you. Keep up the great work. X
Every time I see this it brings me back to when I was a kid growing up in Detroit, probably seven or eight and a church we had in our neighborhood. I was raised Catholic and when we went to church it was sit down, shut up and don't move. One Sunday afternoon some friends and I happened to be by this Black Church and people were running up and down the aisles, running in and out of the Church waving their arms and hollering. All of us kids looked at each other and, without saying a word, thought to ourselves why can't we do that. That my friends is an honest to God true story.
different ways of worship can be a surprise,i got invited to a friends church and they started speaking in tounges ,that was very strange and different to what i was brought up on.lol
When Dan Akroyd and John Belushi did a skit on SNL which ended up being a prequel to this movie no one thought they were as knowledgeable about blues music. It was a shock to many that they did it justice. The song with Aretha is my favorite (pink fuzzy slippers and all)!
This is a really fun movie, yes silly at times, but a believable and solid premise, and just the music and cameos are worth a look. Heck, it’s been awhile, I may go back and watch it again.
The Blues Brothers live open featuring their rendition of "Soul Man" on Saturday Night Live was musical satire. For example: Compare it with the Sam & Dave performance of "Soul Man" on the Ed Sullivan show and you'll see some of the same background musicians. Both are great entertainment.
Chaka kahn is in the choir My cousin likes to tell a story how John Belushi just walked into his house in illinois and introduced himself , raided the fridge and fell asleep on his couch...not sure how true it is though.
😂I know exactly what yiou're talking about. I went to mostly white or mixed churches before attending a more liturgical church and if you weren't ready to hit the ceiling when all was said and done then the Spirit wasn't moving in you 😂....till I realised the Spirit moves us in different ways at fifferent times snd can be expressed even in stillness. But man! I loved this movie! I haven't seen it in years! You reminded me just how funny and ACCURATE it is! 😂
My father's people back to before the War Between the States were in a church that people would dance in the aisles, roll around on the floor, speak in tongues, prophecy, healed, and handled snakes. Dad said it scared the Hell out of him and since he was Gramma's youngest son she let him go to the Baptist church across the street.
While in the military was temporarily at Savannah Georgia and the Chaplain to me to to a little church outside the city on Sunday. As the only white person there who was used to the restrained Lutheran services it was a bit disconcerting when the choir started up a folks began testifying. While not quite as energetic as this movie it was something and after a lot of urging they got me to get up and go for it. Afterwards the church supper... Jeeze they had to roll me back to car. I attended a black Southern Baptist church a couple of times with a friend of mine from junior high school in the mid 1970's in South Carolina. Everyone was super friendly and though I did get some "looks" most folks had the courtesy to give the from around those little paper fans that looked like they'd been staples to a ruler. My friends little sister stuck her tongue out at one blue haired old lady that got a little too saucy with it and made her start laughing. The Blues Brothers was one of the best musicals ever. Yes, it was a musical. I don't care what anyone else says.
It took us on a journey of Black music in America from Jake and Elwood's perspective. I loved it!
There was not a single song or performance in this movie that wasn't phenomenal!
It is one of the best musicals -- and probably the funniest musical of all time.
it's not simply a movie or a musical, it's literally a love letter to american (especially black american) music
@@MamaRii73Indeed. It introduced me to artists who I never knew of, but my father adored.
The one of best movies from 1980 EVER!!! The entire soundtrack is GREAT!!!!
Chaka Kahn has a small cameo in the choir!
Cultural Marxist Watch you beat to point that out.
I thought that woman looked familiar.
Good eye.. Hawkeye.

That's a great movie with an all star cast of blues legends.
John Belushi who did the backflips was a crazy funny dude"
I liked the part where he said "I hate those damned Nazis" and he drove his car into their protest and they had to jump into the river...
Kind of spry for a big guy, right?
This was my favorite movie when i was growing up non Elvis. I can recite this movie backwards and forwards. John Candy was great as the Parole officer. Orange whips all around
Elvis... Exactly! Orange Whip? Orange whip? Anybody want an Orange Whip? Plain white toast and 2 fried chickens and a coke..
@@ritamead6318 4 fried chickens and a Coke.
"Hi this is...what car are we?"
"Five five!"
"Hi we are in car fifty five....ahh...We are in a truck!"
Man! I'm so glad I saw this movie in the theater. It really has some great music and musicians. Gospel is a big foundation of blues
Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and John Lee Hooker have good numbers from this movie too
Donald Duck Dunn RIP
Ed Nicholson think , think of what you’re trying to do to me !🎵🎶
I think this movie was partly responsible for reinvigorating the career of Aretha Franklin and many of the others who appear in the movie.
Calloway is the goat

Tom... Cab Calloway was so awesome in that movie....

OMG The way you moved your eyebrows, John Belushi did the exact same!!!! From older films, of course, but he was famouse for that!
He did it in Animal House
Such a great movie with a great soundtrack and so many cameo appearances. Highly recommend
I love Dan Akroyd & Jim Belushi.. and my bday is the exact same as James Brown so I also felt a kinship to him in a weird way, love him no matter what! 🖤
John Belushi you mean.
I'm an Agnostic on a good day, but if all churches were like this, I'd be attending. Still my favorite scene from the movie.
You ever been to a Southern Pentecostal church?
@@bobbierobinson6269: Have not. But living in NC these days, I'd love to check one out.
My Baptist Church was like this every sunday. It was a miracle that the building didn't fly off the foundations. XD
Blue's brother's 2000 has a great church scene as well. Just as good as the original movie
"We're on a mission from God."

@DarkVoid at 4:47 you can see that the person doing the back flips is nearly as tall as Dan Aykroyd. Compare to 2:17. They used a stunt double.
