I like Kataang because it's a romance story that's not told as much as a Zutara one.
It's that relationships can form and become stronger when you are going through things together and slowly build a stronger bond with each other.
Rather than a more hot and heavy, bad boy, sexual attraction, opposites attract, kind of romance which is so common in shows.
One of the biggest arguments against Kataang is that she is too mature for him. Giving a big sister vibe or even a mother one.
But it is subtly introduced in the first episode that she has been forced to grow up faster than she wants and has assumed a mothering role, almost parentification.
So she might be more drawn to Aang because it's closer to her own childlike nature which is something she has lost.
That explains why she might have unsure feelings about it and is back and forth with him and goes for other guys. Because she do like him, as we see in the kyoshi warriors episode where she actually becomes jealous.
And the more mature guys like Jet take advantage of her young naivety and inexperience. So she slowly accepts the potential romance with aang like in The Fortune Teller.
But this is just my interpretation of their romance.

i think that this is a 10/10 interpretation. as i mentioned in the video, aang is an outlet for katara to be the child that she never got to be

And also, Aang matures a LOT by the end of the show. That's his whole character arc, and that's why it's so fitting when they get together by the end--they've both done a lot of waiting that pays off in such a sweet way

Another thing about Zuko and Katara is that he was the 2nd person Katara trust then betrayed
First was Jet who she had a lot in common with only to find out he was a psychopath who was fully set on destroying anybody related to the Fire Nation but gets a redemption arc in Lake Laogai
After that she meets Zuko again she goes on a full rant about him and how the Fire Nation took away her mother
Zuko gets a chance to open up to her earning her trust only to change his mind because of his sister and his honor
Later She meets Hama another person she had a bond with but like Jet was a psychopath fully set on revenge using her bending in the darkest way and forced Katara into becoming a blood bender
At this point we can see why she had trouble trusting Zuko when he showed up again but got to make up for it

The other thing people always seem to forget about is just the logistics of it... Like Zuko is the Firelord, meaning if she were to be with him, she would be... Firelady? Idk what the term is. But either way, I can't see Katara being willing to give up her home in the Southern Water Tribe and not only embrace life in the Fire Nation, but as a LEADER in the Fire Nation... y'know, as said in this video, the people who killed her mother and destroyed her home. She'd rather go back home and help rebuild the Southern Water Tribe with Aang than sit around and probably be miserable as the Firelady. Also, just because two characters have chemistry, doesn't mean they should be together.

Yes, yes and yes. It's so hypocritical when the antis claim that Katara and Aang are the "hero gets the girl" trope when that's exactly what Zutara would be if it were canon. They're always saying that Zuko "deserves" Katara because he saved her life, as if she were some sort of prize for his redemption arc. Also abandoning her culture to go live the rest of her life in the Fire Nation is a real tragedy to me. Not to mention that Zuko loves his girlfriend Mai, and he also loves Aang (who is literally his destiny) and has a much stronger connection with him than with Katara.

  • @SamanthaSestak
    @SamanthaSestak Месяц назад +7

But yea i completely agree w these takes. If a guy spends months trying to kill you you are not just gonna start dating him and even if ppl make the argument that Zuko had an amazing redemption arc, that doesn’t erase Katara's existing feelings for Aang. Even if it is a cool haters to lovers arc, that pairing rlly would not have made much sense or been realistic.

Not only Katara and Zuko don't work, it's a HUGE disrespect to Mai. Did people expect the writers to pair her with some random new character that has little to no dept or not pair her at all? Mai and Zuko knew each other since they were kids, she was alone for years while he was exiled, as soon as he was back they were the typical teenager couple, but they did have a great side to each other.
After Mai saved everybody during the prison break: the fighting and the epic sentence that made Azula go insane... What did people think was gonna happen or *should* happen? People only focus on the 3 main characters, but I'll throw hands over Mai disrespect.
Honestly, for me, Zuko and Katara only gives colonizer/colonized trope. The girl from the oppressed group finding a boy from the oppressor that 'is not like the others, he is kind' and I absolutely despise this Pocahontas crap.
Katara and Aang could've been better written in some ways (they give a lot of thought and moments in Book 1, but ignored it/made sloopy scenes on Books 2 & 3), but I guess that after Katara and Zuko fought in the North Pole, the writters wanted to do some fanservice and try a middle ground approach that I hated with all my soul.

This is an excellent take! I for sure agree that the colonizer/colonized troupe seldom works and this is not one of those times. Consider dropping a sub if you haven’t already!

LMFAO a 14 year old child being a mother to a 12 year old. This argument is so ridiculous that I can't take seriously. Aang and Katara are peers in every way, the fact that Katara was forced to assume adult responsabilities from a young age is part of the tragedy of her character and guess what? The same applies to Aang.
