As tragic as I find her youth, always secretly wishing, hoping she was magical too, always overlooked by her parents and all else, I can't ever fully sympathise with her, just for the fact she neglected and abused a child in need. It was her last string to her sister, she could've had a chance to make things right, yet she allowed Harry's life at "home" to be so miserable? She knew how painful feeling neglected could be, yet she actively chose day after day to neglect her little cousin, who lost both his parents... I just can't understand and therefor I can't forgive nor really sympathise with her character
I feel sympathy with the fact that when Lily was around, yes, she may have been more overlooked but what about the rest of the year when Lily wasn't there? Surely she would of had the attention then? That's somethings I've always wondered about.

This video just made me cry. I think it isn’t noticed enough what Petunia went trough, how she felt. She just wanted to be noticed by her family but Lily stole her attention. Of course she didn’t meant to, don’t get me wrong, Lily is one of my favorite characters from the whole series, but I think there is so much more to Petunias character than is shown. Surely she got all the attention then.

But Snape and Lily found and read the letter, that's partly why she lashed out at her sister showing her magic. Who wouldn't be jealous of a world like that, honestly?

When it's your favorite shows and your favorite characters :)))))))). Wow, this is just absolutely perfect. I adore this so much. The relationship between the two sisters isn't talked about enough in the fandom like I find their relationship to be one of the most interesting and realistic ones in the series. You can really see both sides of what they're going through with one another. Petunia is honestly one of the most compelling characters in the series because of her jealousy for Lily and her motives as an antagonist in Harry Potter are one of the most justified in my opinion. And it really is sad because Lily wanted to help make things better between the two, but Petunia kept pushing her away. I feel like Petunia is so underrated and misunderstood and it's just lovely to get content for her. And honestly, Vanessa Kirby's Margaret as Petunia and Sophie Skelton's Brianna is just so, so perfect for these two. Like probably one of the best fancasts I've ever seen. I just love this way too much and I love getting to see these two and their relationship.

And even lily is nonchalantly brushing off her attitude not even reaching out to her sister and chooses to hang with severus, and when severus called her a mud blood due to humiliation that his put in, she immediately cast him off even though he apologises. Every one is putting lily and James as if they're saints, when in fact their actions triggered the demise of many when it could have been prevented, and most especially they are the catalyst of their sons burden which he didn't deserve..

Oh Petunia...soo misunderstood and deeply hurt... I dont want to blame her and Lilys' parents cuz they were said to be good people... but i dont think they did a good job in helping Petunia realize that despite not having magic she was just as special as Lily in her own ways. She said they fawned over Lily and was proud of her (as they should be) but that lead me to believe that they unintentionally treated Petunia and whatever accomplishment she achieved as second best/less than in comparison.. I'm pretty sure she must have been deeply depressed all those years and the bitterness turned her nasty..... Not excusing how she treated her nephew tho.. but I feel that in her mind he is the reason why she died in the first place.... Again I'm not excusing her actions.. just trying to understand her because I'm extremely sure that she isnt the first nor will she be the last sibling of a muggleborn to feel that way. Why I think Petunia was so bad to Harry was basically I think she never got to properly grieve her sisters death with vernon around and her sadness turned to anger which she unjustly took out on Harry as he was the one thing that remained of the sister she never got to say good bye too
Petunia was the character I related to and my comfort character as a child. In this case my sisters (older and younger) are Lily. I’m petunia, I was overlooked, my sisters were smart, pretty, skinny, straight. Meanwhile I’m the complete opposite I burst out in tears when I was around 4-7 when I heard the line “my perfect sister being who she was. Mother and father were so proud.” soon after I started becoming mean to my sisters, I’d pull their hair, get mad easily, etc. I don’t know how to stop it. I have so much hatred towards them. When I was 14 I required a laptop for school, when my sister was 14 she had a MacBook, newly bought from the Apple store, meanwhile I got an old laptop that doesn’t even work today, with an unknown brand, and was in a stock room since the 80s. I sound spoiled I know, I may have interpreted it wrong, but it’s just how I feel, soon I realized I was lesbian, I sorta gave my mother hints, I told her “I hate men” and watched lesbian movies with her, while watching the movies a lesbian s3x scene comes in and she constantly says “that’s disgusting” and barfs, meanwhile, in straight s3x scenes she doesn’t say a word.
jkr made so many confusing and complex character that you would think for one second that they are deep down misunderstood and kind. But the truth is the likes of Petunia and Malfoy are just a representation of what a real person is in real world; that it also exists even in the books. Because it what gives the story depth. The realistic and humanize characters. Whatever tragic back story they have, it doesn't pardon them from what inexcusable mistake they did to other people. And no wonder why there are Malfoy apologists and Petunia sympathizers because JKR is good (as much as I hate to admit) at words and she's good at manipulating it so that it would give her the satisfaction of readers being confused and having mixed feelings towards her characters. And people still defend Jkr after the issue. You see, it may looked like she care for the trans people's wellbeing, but if you looked through the context of her tweets and explanation, you'll understand it now. You'll understand the anger of other people towards her. But if you are still blindly supporting her, just think one moment and reassess, you are no better than her awful characters. Trans people deserved to live without their existence being constantly questioned. You can appreciate her art, but never forget what pain she's inflicted.

Would literally be forever in ur debt if u could send-my Internet is being rubbish so downloading loads of eps and films is out of the question as the mo! Why I think Petunia was so bad to Harry was basically I think she never got to properly grieve her sisters death with vernon around and her sadness turned to anger which she unjustly took out on Harry as he was the one thing that remained of the sister she never got to say good bye too

Petunia was the character I related to and my comfort character as a child. In this case my sisters (older and younger) are Lily. I’m petunia, I was overlooked, my sisters were smart, pretty, skinny, straight. Meanwhile I’m the complete opposite I burst out in tears when I was around 4-7 when I heard the line “my perfect sister being who she was. Mother and father were so proud.” soon after I started becoming mean to my sisters, I’d pull their hair, get mad easily, etc. I don’t know how to stop it. I have so much hatred towards them. When I was 14 I required a laptop for school, when my sister was 14 she had a MacBook, newly bought from the Apple store, meanwhile I got an old laptop that doesn’t even work today, with an unknown brand, and was in a stock room since the 80s. I sound spoiled I know, I may have interpreted it wrong, but it’s just how I feel, soon I realized I was lesbian, I sorta gave my mother hints, I told her “I hate men” and watched lesbian movies with her, while watching the movies a lesbian s3x scene comes in and she constantly says “that’s disgusting” and barfs, meanwhile, in straight s3x scenes she doesn’t say a word.

jkr made so many confusing and complex character that you would think for one second that they are deep down misunderstood and kind. But the truth is the likes of Petunia and Malfoy are just a representation of what a real person is in real world; that it also exists even in the books. Because it what gives the story depth. The realistic and humanize characters. Whatever tragic back story they have, it doesn't pardon them from what inexcusable mistake they did to other people. And no wonder why there are Malfoy apologists and Petunia sympathizers because JKR is good (as much as I hate to admit) at words and she's good at manipulating it so that it would give her the satisfaction of readers being confused and having mixed feelings towards her characters.
And people still defend Jkr after the issue. You see, it may looked like she care for the trans people's wellbeing, but if you looked through the context of her tweets and explanation, you'll understand it now. You'll understand the anger of other people towards her. But if you are still blindly supporting her, just think one moment and reassess, you are no better than her awful characters. Trans people deserved to live without their existence being constantly questioned. You can appreciate her art, but never forget what pain she's inflicted.
