    You can use ASIO without it muting everything except FL Studio. To do that, you must ensure that all of your devices in both FL Studio and Windows' sound menu are set to the same sample rate (44khz, 48khz, etc.)

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 месяца назад +1

      This is true! Sample rates do need to match. This also depends on the particular ASIO driver, some are not multi-client and require a particular application to let go of the driver prior to being utilized elsewhere. It also depends on whether or not "Auto Close" is on or off.

    If my project is still lagging after changing these things, is the only option to delete some of the plugins? In my case, not only is it lagging in the DAW, but some parts won't even play at all until I mute some of the effects. When I export it into a wav it's the same. Half the song is missing😅 Turning off smart disable made it a bit better. I'm glad you mentioned that since my project has melodyne.

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  Год назад +1

      If some of the tracks are silent even when exporting that may be due to some plugins dropping licenses and going into demo mode. or not being licensed at all and being demos. When I have intensive projects I usually get more strategic about what plugins I'm using and I will bounce any tracks that I can to wav files with the effects applied. Then I'll save that in a new version of the project so I can get rid of a bunch of plugins but if I need to go back I can. Kind of haphazard and inefficient but you gotta do what you gotta do.

      I would try changing the playback tracking and adjusting your offset. Change it to driver and set offset -200. Tell me if that helps. (Pulled that solution straight off of image-line support.) for tracking, driver will generally be the way to go for interfaces, mixer will base timing off FL Studio itself. Offset should help with the rest.

    You really do know what you're saying, awesome video sir! You might be able to give me some advice...I get underruns and crackles no matter what I do. I think I know I've applied everything there is in order to increase my buffer and not get crackles (even though i know that when you get to a certain point, buffer size doesn't help that much). I've applied all of the settings you mentioned. I have a komplete audio 6 dedicated audio interface, when I choose 1024 samples, it starts to crackle and pop. Needless to say, this doesn't happen when I start a new project, but later, when I start filling it up with effects. My vocal chains have over 10 fx slots, so i end up sending a channel to extend it. I mostly use mix and master plugins from waves. I've come to notice that when I play 2,3 more of these types of chains (add to that your typical additional sends like reverbs, parallel comp., delays, etc,). Each project I start ends up like this. Before you know it, it gets bottlenecked. Do you think I'm using too many plugins? I've seen people utilize more plugins in projects with over 200 tracks (cubase) and they're getting much smoother playback. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you and have a great day Warren!

    • @bartsimpson2131
      @bartsimpson2131 2 года назад

      Forgot to mention that I end up using fl studio asio at 2048 samples. And that the vocal chains I mention sometimes end up having even 20 plugins/fxs on them (and that's without the parallel processing, reverbs and delays)
      Hope you get to 100k subscribers soon, take care!

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 года назад

      Hey! I love the your account name btw. That sounds to me like limited processing power or limited resources actually being used by FL studio. I know the same thing happens when I start filling fx chains or use a lot of high cpu instruments. I currently have 16gb of ram and a 1st gen focusrite Scarlett 6i6. If I use high cpu intensive instrument vst’s i do preventative maintenance. I’ll consolidate tracks and activate the smart disable option so that I can keep the original midi and vst in case I want to change it but my playback will use purely the consolidated wave file saving a lot of processing power. If I have intensive fx chains I’ll often save a duplicate project and consolidate tracks that way I can remove the vast amount of VST’s but also have a project to go back to if I need to change something. This can get complicated once you start adding auxiliary tracks and busses into the mix though. Because of this I keep trying to push the boundaries of doing more with less to save cpu in my projects.
      Something to check though is your task manager if you’re using windows. Lately I’ve noticed “windows desktop manager” has been taking massive amounts of cpu on my computer (I’m talking 50% of my processing power and more). So I constantly have to check and restart the process. But it could be anything taking up cpu. A virus scan in the background from your antivirus software, viruses themselves, buggy windows processes, etc. so check there as well when you start getting the crackles.
      Anybody using hundreds of plugins is probably using a wicked machine. 64+gigs of ram with a hardcore processor or 2 I’m sure. Gotta do with what we’ve got though.
      I know this isn’t much of an aha moment or a straightforward solution but I really hope this comment is helpful.
      Best regards!
      Warren 🤙

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 года назад

      Oh I also noticed you said you’re using an interface but using fl studio asio. Check and see if your interface has its own asio driver. That could improve performance. I know my 6i6 can use fl studio asio but also has its own driver which I always use.

    • @bartsimpson2131
      @bartsimpson2131 2 года назад

      @@ScaleAudio Thanks so much Warren, really appreciate the detailed response! I just noticed I forgot to leave my specs. I am using a solid machine
      CPU : intel i7 8700k
      RAM: 16gb
      AUDIO INTERFACE: Komplete Audio 6
      The reason why I choose FL STUDIO ASIO over the asio of the audio interface is because the audio interface one maxes out at 1024 samples (and goes real low, good for recording vocals), but when I'm producing, I switch it to fl studio asio because it gets me to 2048 samples.
      I hear you when you say less is more, and that is true, but sometimes I just can't dial in the vocal with less than 10 plugins, and that's where the bottlenecks start to appear mostly. Since I know that audio processing utilizes single core performance, I was thinking of maybe jumping on to the new i9 12900k, or 12700k... their single core benchmarks are significantly higher, I'm sure I'd see a difference there. But its not an easy switch, I'd have to get a new motherboard, and switch to ddr5 ram. But if gets the job done, I'm willing to invest...

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 года назад

      @@bartsimpson2131 I hear ya. If you have to I’d say just consolidate for now. You can always hover over plugins to see how much latency they create in the top left. Generally if it’s responsible for a lot of latency it uses a lot of cpu. Just keep optimizing and consolidate as needed and you should be able to get through until you upgrade.
      A recommendation in the meantime is do things in segments. I know you said you use waves so for example you can run saturation to imitate a pre-amp, a high/low pass for cleanup, follow that with a de-esser, cla to cut peaks, waves vocal rider, r-vox for general vocal compression afterwards if needed, and a c6 if needed for any other problem solving. (Hypothetical.) then make a duplicate of your project but with your dynamics tuned in for the most part in both projects. Now you can bounce your vocals with the dynamics fixed up, get rid of the compressors etc. and have a free clear vocal chain to work with for eq, pitch correction, coloring, reverb, etc. plus a project to go back to for dynamics specifically. Rinse and repeat if needed. It’s a destructive way of editing but if the vocals do need that much work then what can you do, you know?

      Hey! Sorry for the late reply! Go to your mixer, in the top left is an arrow pointing down, click it and in the drop down is “disk recording”, go there and make sure “latency compensation” is on. Underneath disk recording is “Plug-in delay compensation”, make sure “automatic”, and “compensation automations” is checked. When you export, in the export options on the bottom is a bunch of buttons listed in the “miscellaneous” section. In this section you should see a button for “Trim PDC Silence”, make sure this is on. These are all the delay compensation settings I can remember. If these don’t fix it you can go to audio settings and try turning on “align tick lengths”. Also if it’s only specific plugins you can try going to the plugins “troubleshooting” section under “vst wrapper settings” (vst wrapper settings is an icon that looks like a plug and a cogwheel next to each other) and you can try checking “use fixed buffer size”. This will give a fixed amount of latency which may help with the automatic compensation. You can also try checking “use time offset” on the same page. If fixed buffer size and time offset don’t work I’d make sure to turn them back off when done with them. Hopefully something here works for you.

    Hey men, i installed autotune pro and it causes 64ms of latency now when i record vocals i turn it off and when the vocal is recorded i turn it back on. But now i realized even when i do that some part of the project like kick will just start going way before music plays, and when i turn off the effects (that causes the latency) it plays normal again. Idk what to do, should i just delete all plugins that cause latency or what

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  Год назад

      Some troubleshooting for ya.
      In your mixer, under the top left drop-down make sure plugin delay compensation is checkmarked for the “automatic” option.
      Is your kick in a mixer track by itself? If not, are the other instruments in the same mixer track early as well? Try changing the mixer track of the kick to make sure it’s not related to that mixer track specifically (there are mixer related latency options for compensating for plugins and recorded audio)
      If everything else checks out, go into the back of the plug-in wrapper and try to give it a fixed latency to the offending plug-in, you can do this by clicking the cogwheel at the top of the plugin, choosing the option that shows a plug as well as a cogwheel, going to the “Troubleshooting” tab, and clicking “Use fixed buffer sizes”. this may add more latency to the track, however, it may resolve your sync issues.

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  Год назад

      You can also click your master track and make sure the clock icon on the bottom right of the mixer is set to delay audio output. Unsure if that could cause anything weird if it’s off.
      In the audio settings checkmark the align tick lengths option.

      Is there any plugins in your mixer? Sometimes plugins cause a lot of latency, there’s actually setting in your plug-in wrappers even for your instruments that if accidentally checked can cause huuuugggeee latency.
      Your general settings has some settings that can cause latency. Not huge though.
      If you’ve dropped your buffer length, you’re using an asio driver, it’s not being caused by any plugins, and your latency is still that high then I’d try updating the drivers to your laptop and getting the latest service packages for your operating system. You also might try reinstalling FL Studio.
      And if it helps at all here’s an updated in depth audio settings video.

    So I have my Scarlett as a asio driver but I don’t know how to get the playback through my headphones

    • @ScaleAudio

      Are your headphones plugged into the front of your Scarlett? Are you using a windows or a Mac computer?

      No they are plugged in on my computer and I use windows

      @@backxsterr4316Gotcha, the Scarlett asio driver is for the Focusrite Scarlett USB interface to be able to process and output/input audio. In order to hear audio you have to be plugged into the physical interface. The outputs are labeled for the headphones and/or speakers. Scarlett interfaces are a very great bang for your buck interface. I bought mine about 8 years ago and still use it today.

    Having export issues 80 and 40s. In studio is good. 4500u Aya neo

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 года назад

      Your exporting on a aya neo? And 80 and 40s is referring to sample rates? In the studio on a standard computer export is fine though? Sorry just trying to understand.

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 года назад

      If your exporting I’d check the export resampling quality in the export page is the same as the project resampling quality in the audio settings page. You can turn off all mixer effects when exporting as well by clicking the option at the bottom of the export page. If you do that and everything exports fine then your issue is one of your plugins.

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 года назад

      Wow. Thats a lot. Without actually being behind your computer to troubleshoot I couldn't quite tell you. If you've followed the stuff in this video, then all that's left would be plugins or a buggy FL Studio application. Something I failed to talk about in this video is sample rate. The higher the sample rate the more that has to be processed at one moment in time, therefore the more latency your system has.

    • @ScaleAudio
      @ScaleAudio  2 года назад

      Most likely however you have a plugin or instrument giving you a problem or you need to uninstall and reinstall FL Studio. There is also a "diagnostic" tool under the "help" option in the top left menu in FL Studio that may be able to help you. If all else fails, then it may be driver related or have something to do with compatibility issues between FL Studio and your computer system.

      @@musicislife704 first when you export make sure trim PDC silence is checked. If that doesn’t work go to your audio setting and check the option for “align tick lengths”. Let me know if either of those work. Either a plug-in on the mixer track or your instruments that are delayed or the instrument plugins themselves are causing the problem.
