What a great game! Came here after listening to the Phil Hay Show in Feb 21. What a run we had. What a team we had. How fantastic our crowd was. I didn't make this, but was there for the Deportivo game!
Great memories and sooooo happy that the good times have come back. Sure, they never last, but the key thing is... enjoy them whilst they are here!

Great upload - electric atmosphere ⚡️ A great young team - the oldest Leeds player was 26. It’s a shame the fans won’t be allowed in the stadium to give them the support they need in the Premier League this season.

It seemed a good idea at the time Leeds being back in the prem but seeing as they're content to roll with massively overrated players like Bamford shows they have no ambition. They are an embarrassment to the Leeds team that was in the prem w0 years ago. The new generation of footballers have really damaged the game in terms of quality.

Crazy to think both penalty shouts in this game would be 100% given in todays game

Both penalty shouts - 8:45 for them and 9:47 for us - would have been given now. They're both dives, but that no longer matters. Doobs kicks the guys knee but he's already on the way down, and Smith is just shoved off the ball, even though he's looking for it.
    Different times!

Why is it everything Leeds have accomplished always gets crapped on? I take this comment section and the rest of the internet into account
Leeds beating Milan = Leeds lucky, Milan had players out, Leeds scored a jammy goal
Leeds drawing with Barca = Leeds lucky, Leeds scored a jammy goal
Leeds beat Man Utd whilst in league one = Man Utd played their second team
Leeds have a rivalry with Man Utd = Leeds are living in the past, there is no rivalry
Leeds clearly the best team in the world for a large part of the 60s and 70s = No Ajax and Celtic were better and Leeds were overrated
Leeds make the champions league semi final in 2001 = Leeds overrated
Leeds reach the final of the European cup after beating Barcelona = Leeds cheated their way to the final
Leeds can not win 😆😆😆 it's ridiculous 😭😭. Everything Leeds do that is great is always dismissed and laughed at 😆😆

Ajax and Celtic were great teams in the late 60s and 70s. However both their leagues offered those two clubs very little competition year in year out. Ajax’s only strong competition was PSV (Philips). Celtic’s was Rangers with occasional strong.opposition from the 2 Dundee clubs, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock who were a decent team back then. Leeds were up against great strong sides in England every week.12+ clubs each year in England could win either the FA Cup or League Championship. This wasn’t the case in either Germany, Spain, Italy or Portugal. This is why for years professionals have published in various outlets that Revie’s Leeds teams were one of the best if not the best club side in world football.
Also the foreign football associations, tended to support their club sides when in the later stages of European club competitions. League fixtures were often rescheduled to help prepare their clubs for European matches. Leeds who were usually battling in 3 or 4 competitions each year back then, got no help whatsoever from the English FA. For whatever reason the FA didn’t at the time like Don Revie or his Leeds team. So each request was flatly rebuked.
The worst incident was the FA forcing Leeds to play their final 1972 league game against Wolves 2 days after a gruelling FA Cup Final against Arsenal. Many Leeds players were injured after the cup final. That Wolves match was Leeds’ biggest game of the season in which 1 point would have secured them the 1972 league championship. Thus winning them a rare league and cup double. They lost the game 2-1
Many footballing professionals and fans from other clubs were disgusted by the FA’s decision to force Leeds to play such an important and pivotal match against a Wolves team who hadn’t played for days.

That Leeds team were so overrated in all honesty. Just a really plucky team who gathered enough points through the group stage and then got an easy draw against Deportivo in the quarters.
Once they met Valencia in the semi finals, they never stood a chance.

    • @onlyweatherlol93
      @onlyweatherlol93 2 года назад +1

Also, two of the goals they scored vs Barcelona and Milan were pure flukes. Can't think of many worse sides to reach the semi-finals except maybe Spurs in 2019

You create your own luck the results against Barca and Milan were fully deserved, and going off how Leeds were performing in the league year by year back then nobody can say Leeds weren't a top side capable of doing damage...they weren't league champion material sure I don't disagree but (as you I think implied as well) they were like your Tottenham of today world class but just lacked that consistency to win titles and make it count against certain other top sides, missing that cutting edge. But they were still amazing..it was a great time and a proud time in our history we will never forget it! Thus I don't think we were overrated and I never thought the team had been portrayed as being as good as Man Utd or Arsenal at the time but I would agree that we were fortunate the champions league was done by group stages so I agree to disagree I think

Deportivo were La Liga champions they were no mugs ask Manchester United the following season how easy they were but against Valencia yes Lee Bowyer was suspended for the second leg and the first Juan Sanchez goal was questionable they were comfortably beaten
