    Brings back so many good memories of that season as well as the sad ones. We had an amazing squad back then!

    Bridges Kewell Bowyer Bakke all sensational that season was a joy to watch that football team. What a tragedy that happened and to Michael bridges after his terrible injury the following season.

      True. Wilcox was mint when he joined halfway through the season. Shame Batty got injured against Southampton and missed the rest of the season.

      ...which makes his form at my Liverpool FC all the more frustrating.

      Bowyer was even better IMO. Problems aside that guy was one of the top 5 midfielders of his generation against some serious competition. I always wonder how his career would have gone if he'd stayed on the straight and narrow.

    • @dundalis
      @dundalis 3 года назад +1

      @@goneracing1646 Disagree, Kewell was like a less speedy prime Gareth Bale. If not for the injuries his ceiling was best winger in the world who could get you 15-20 goals a season, which at that time was very rare from a winger due to teams playing wingers as hug the touchline types, not inside forwards like today. He got 17 goals and 20 assists in all competitions that season, if he played today, he'd have been a right inside forward and probably be scoring a lot more. He was already considered as possibly the second best left wing in Europe after this season behind Ryan Giggs. Will agree though that Bowyer looked like being on a Lampard like trajectory.

    • @goneracing1646
      @goneracing1646 3 года назад

      @@dundalis The guy scored slightly more goals than Bowyer despite playing as a dedicated attacking player. You can wonder what if, but what really happened doesn't agree with you.

    Wilcox was class for that second half of the season. That allowed Kewell to play up front with Bridges and add some pace.

      Probably Bielsa is the best manager for Leeds since O'Leary

    • @dundalis
      @dundalis 3 года назад +2

      Lol, O'Leary was not that good a coach. He just happened to come upon an explosion of incredible home grown youth players along with a few very astute buys in the transfer market. He did like to play and develop young players, but tactically he was very average which is why he never did anything much afterwards, but he was certainly better than the coaches that came after him who weren't any good at all. Bielsa is in a completely different class and would probably have turned that team around.

    I believe that it was a real shame that this Leeds Team did NOT win the Premiership around that time. They were so attractive to watch and so present when interviewed.. I was never a Leeds fan but I so admired them. The 1992 Division willers were also very entertaining ?? and I was glad they won it that year..

    • @sonnQ

      It is a shame because the owner and board didn't really appreciate what a special group of players they had because they would of gotten rid of O'Leary and brought in a world class manager to work with all that talent and deliver some trophies.

      I definitely think Leeds under O'Leary could have gone on to win trophies 🏆 O'Leary should never have been sacked -yes he made some mistakes every manager has, O'Leary even said when he took charge that I would probably take 3/4 years and sure enough that's all he lasted another season or two and Leeds could have done it!!

    Can anybody recall the the Saints game away (where Bridges scored a brilliant hat-trick and we went on to win 3-0)? At about 5:10, in this video, Mark Hughes strikes a fierce volley and unsuccessfully claims a goal. I'm sure that, at the time, he'd hit it so hard that it went in, but the back of the net was so close to the hoardings behind the goal (Older fans will remember how close the stands were to the pitch at the Dell) that it cannoned straight back out & the "goal" was missed by everybody (except Hughes). Am I imagining this? It's hard to make out on this video. I think the official line was that David Hopkins had cleared it off the line.
    I'd be grateful if someone would confirm that we got lucky & Hughes did indeed score a legitimate goal that wasn't given. MOT :)
