Matt, this series has been awesome. Stumbled across your channel with a recommended video one night, stayed for the rest and can’t wait to see this thing finished. Keep crushing it my dude.
Literally everything you are going through I am going through with my 2010 Audi S5 . It was poorly fixed by previous owners and I have been learning and slowly putting her back together . From body work with wood screws to wrong wipers , glued headlight washers with LEDs spliced into his ballasts and suspensions squeaks . Lol
Great job on getting the engine sorted! I know it was a lot of hard work pulling apart the fuel pump and rebuilding it over and over. It must be so satisfying starting the engine and not having any major issues. Can’t wait to see it with the refreshed and painted pieces reinstalled. I’m really enjoying this build. Thank you for the content!
When you get it all good to go, get it tuned. 1.0-1.2 bar. Game changer for sure !!! Look into some hybrid turbos. Ive got a contact for some good (relatively inexpensive option) that I used for years. Im excited to see its progress !!!!!!
Now if only I could figure out why my 911 swapped 986 is misfiring one bank of cylinders at a time… Great videos, love seeing the focus of maintenance over mods
You removed the mirror shells the hard way. They can be removed much easier. While they are still on the car, Pop off the glass mirror like you did it. Then remove the 3 screws and the shell will come off. No interior removal necessary. You can also pop the glass back on for temporary driving.
Thats already lot of progress!! even though half car wasnt on, i guess is kinda funny to drive like that haha Cant wait to see it complete and with some upgrades too. Keep it up!
Because they were black, I hadn't noticed that you have the fins in your intake vents. People added those to look like the 997 ones. If you like that, great, but they're on the 997 for a reason. The 997 has bigger vents. On a 996, you're just reducing airflow. If it were mine, I'd go back to the stock ones. Either way, I'm very excited for you, so glad to see your easy start and fixed boost! Looking forward to what's next!
You still have a leak somewhere, it should be .6 constant with .7 spikes. The problem with "just a boost leak" is that it will kill your turbos. The turbos will spin until their eyes pop out to compensate for the leak, and this will kill them 50 times faster.
Matt, Congratulations on fixing your boost issues. I agree send those parts out to get painted yellow is the right move. We have a yellow 911 a bit newer and our roof is black because we have a glass sunroof and I ordered it that way so, my suggestion is to keep it black as it makes it look a little newer and is a nice contrast to the awesome yellow. Paint the top of the spoiler back yellow would be a cool idea and Please change those tail lights back to stock those blacked out lenses are so out dated. Oh got one of your long sleeve e36 shirts and it a great quality shirt just wanted you to know. How bout a yellow Porsche shirt next? Keep up the good work.
@@matt13ross totally understand but never hurts to ask. I find the videos very entertaining. I don’t own a Porsche but watching the videos makes me want one just to work on.
Another quality video!!! If this doesn't work out I think you could become a hand model! 😂😂🤣. JK! Loved the video and the greasy hands on the ring promo! I know you super busy with the truck and 911, but any LS e36 content coming?
Good job buddy, i love your project this car is worth it for sure ! I'm not sure about the .5 to .7 bar of boost its not a lot. Probably should be at 1 bar 15 psi. And please do something with the air intake. OEM one are the best for cold air. Hot air open filter work because of the intercooler cool down the intake air temp but the close OEM one breath from the top of the trunk or hood with the small ram... if my memory is good on those 996. I guarantee you will feel the difference. Cannot wait to see the next episode. Tks
@@matt13ross yeah found one intake box is not an easy job. It's to expensive. About the boost I'm not sure but mind, couple years ago everything stock, was boosting little more than .5-.7 bar. Do you know the correct boost on 996?
Good job. Typically a healthy 996 Turbo should boost to about 0.8 bar but it can be hard to hit that in the tests you done. Try going on the motorway, 6th gear and put your foot down. It should hit 0.8 and settle down to 0.7 or 0.6once its got to where it wants to be.
@@matt13ross maybe but you did a good job thus far for sure. I would say check both intercoolers as they can be the culprits also. Turbos can be tricky to get them fully boost leak free.
Matt, another great video! You make it look so easy man. What do u do for a living? U should open a Porsche shop! I am in PA too and my 996 needs work, haha!
Desk Job? I figured you for a fellow LEO. Anyway, great videos man, I cant wait for the Porsche to be done and all the paint work comes back, that car is gonna look sick! U got me in trouble w the ring thing, my wife is busting my chops now for not wearing mine, haha.
Bad joke but my M5 caught on fire so I was blessed with replacing around $7K worth of electronics and various pump motors, oil lines, fuel lines, vacuum lines etc - I say this because I was having fueling issues and it ended up being cylinder 9-10 injector top o rings spewing fuel down onto the header. So I replace all those parts right? Now my fucking fuel pump AND sending unit are throwing codes. *FACE PALM* In short, I feel your pain - car pain that is. 😂
Excellent man, as a former 996TT & current 997TT. This was fun to watch. 911 is THE only car that I think can pull off Yellow. Do you plan to add a Cobb tuner to yours? I had it on both of mine.
Unless you were being really gentle on the throttle that wasn't right , basically when it hit's 4k it should really pull hard so you have to hold the wheel with both hands and in no time you're doing 100mph , that's a standard Turbo, if it's been "tuned" then it's even more mental.

Fixing other half a$$ mods SUCKS!
.7 bar to tipping into .8 is ideal for a k16 car. Great to see the car on the road!
And consistently .8 or so under full load in third with that exhaust.
0.7 bar is around 10 psi, doing a fair bit of research. 0.7 seems to be the factory psi on that model so you’re right on the money. 🎉 good job
I’m really enjoying this build. I like the truck too but the Porsche I’m digging. 👍🏽
