I am having my engine light on from a month, i know that some issue is in fuel line. dismantled the tank and disconnected the EVAP unit. I thought of cleaning the fuel pump filter since i opened everything. Work postponed to tomorrow. Now I didn't knew that I have to reset the ecu. I thought the engine light will go by itself. 😅 I am lucky that I watched your video now. I will try your recommendation tomorrow and edit this comment. Thanks Jestin Bro.
@@KARMAkazeMoto Jestin, the indicator is showing two errors. a) 1 Long and 2 Short (Engine Oil Sensor) Don't know what to do. b) 4 Long and 1 Short (Fuel pump relay circuit) Again don't know . 😂😅
The first thing I would try is cleaning the wire connections for the oil sensor and fuel pump relay and the fuel pump connection itself. Make sure it's all clean so there's a proper electrical signal. Maybe it'll be as simple as that. Then use my steps to clear the ECU. Hopefully the warning lamp won't come back on and you'll know that you fixed the problem. I don't know how to test these circuits off the top of my head. Do you have a copy of the service manual? If not, email me at info@karmakaze.co. There is no M at the end, just .co.
@@KARMAkazeMoto Thankyou Jestin. I will try cleaning the cables and connectors. Will try to reset the ECU. And The Manual will be a great help. I will email you. Thankyou so much Jestin🙏🙏🙏
Brilliant!!! I've just turned off my light and cleared my ECU by following your instructions, the only thing I did differently was I forgot to remove the wire before starting the engine, which resulted in the light going off straight away without the need for multiple startups. Thank You!
Found your video because my engine light came on after doing EXACTLY what you did - I installed heated grips and a couple other accessories and had been turning the key with the tank off to confirm things were working. Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you for this helpful video. My manual TPS adjustment triggered the Check Engine “MIL” and your error codes list great explanation solved it! Very cool!
Thank you for sharing what you've found out about the engine codes. I've had the light on the last two days on my Hima, this was after installing a new headlight, so I thought it was related. Watched your video, went to check what exactly the ECU was saying, and all of a sudden the MIL light goes off. I think my bike is sentient. Anyway, thanks again for sharing I'll be saving this video and sharing it with any other Himalayan owners I meet.
Thanks for the feedback! My understanding is that sometimes depending on what the error was or the length of time the computer sensed the error, the computer will actually reset on its own. Sounds like you had one of those more fortunate situations. 👍
Just seen your video. Managed to initiate the same problem on my 2018 Himalayan. Switched the ignition on when the fuel tank was off ! I have still to try your fix but now have the confidence to give it a go. Will post a report after i have tried it . Thank in advance for your excellent step by step description.
Hello again . Tried the reset as per your instructions. Every sequence went as the ones that you said they would, but on the 4th start up the engine management light did not go out? My bike was first put on the road (here in Scotland) in May 2018 so it presumably is the same model as yours? Or is it because you have different specifications to the UK. Only difference I can think of are emissions which seem to be standard on all Himalayans ? Not sure if you can shed any light on why this reset didn't work? It was very convincing on your video and easy to follow. I looked at the manufacture plate on the headstock/frame and found this number -- e11*168/2013*00274. It is not the full VIN Number (Vechicle Identification Number) here in the UK but that 2013 is a bit odd! Is that a clue, perhaps we have a different wiring harness or year model? I look forward to your thoughts on this mystery Thanks again in advance and a happy Christmas. Gordon.
Me again. Forget all of the above!! Just been to the garage again and had another go at running through the sequence and the light has gone out. I wonder if switching the ignition on and off too quick or too slow had something to do with it? Congratulations on your skills at this. Electrics are not my strong point? If you are ever in Scotland I will buy you a couple of beers. Thanks again
Great video. Thanks for the info. I had the same problem, accidentally left the fuel pump unplugged and tried to start it. Check engine came on. If you are lazy, just leave it. Mine turned off after a few rides.
Thank you so much buddy. This stupid classic of mine has been giving me so much jip these last few months that i even decided to retire it. The engine light would suddenly come on and the bike would stall. I replaced the fuel pump after the cheap & nasty plastic pipe snapped. I cleaned out injector and just tried everything. It would go for a while then suddenly on came the light and the engine cut out. I just applied your magic trick and she is great. Lets hope she stays that way. Living in Scotland I need something extremely reliable, especially as I go way up into the icy hills to nowhere's land. Breakdown up there and i'm in trouble. You can see my clips on my youtube under Adventurescot. Thanks so much for your very helpful video
Even I ran into the same problem by disconnecting the fuel pump. Your video helped me a lot and saved my day. Check engine light disappeared only after running the key two times in my case. Thank you.
That's great news! I wish I knew why the computer will sometimes show a permanent error, and sometimes it will go away after a short ride. Either way, always a good idea to be sure problems are identified and corrected before use. Glad this helped you! 👍
This works. I had taken the tank off to route some wiring under it and had turned on the ignition to check new wiring. After putting everything back the Engine light did not go off. Used the method in this video to reset the light. It works 👍🏾👍🏾. Thanks.
Great video but I would like too add a correction. I set my MIL off when I started it without fuel tank, I found your video and was going to go though all this on the weekend, but it ended up resetting on its own. So (at least for the my fuel tank error) it my reset it self after some time.
You are absolutely correct, it may reset itself. I'm not exactly sure what the circumstances are that cause the errors to be recorded more permanently. It could be the number of times the bike was turned on/started with the problem, or the length of time the problem was detected, or the type of problem being recorded. But anyway, I'm glad you didn't have to go through the steps. For other people, of course, they might have one of these more permanent issues that needs to be resolved through this process. Another thing to consider is that if you do repairs yourself, you can reset any warnings, then start the bike and see if the warnings come back. It's a good way to check your work in the shop instead of going out and riding around potentially causing more problems. Thanks for the feedback!
@@KARMAkazeMotobro great video! New models reset by themselves when turning the engine off by the red emergency button followed by the key switch off 👍🏽

It worked! I had some dirt on my throttle position sensor connector and the code was correct (zero long six short) after cleaning and reconnecting it was back to normal. Reset sequence worked on first try. Thank you so much!
Thank you! Just did the same as you did (removed tank and wired in a new device) and had the check engine light on afterward. As soon as you said you would get the light after turning on key with fuel pump disconnected I realized what I did. Now I know how to get rid of it!
Thank you for this. like you disconnected fuel pump accidentally will under the tank i only had to start mine once for the light to go out but this has saved me a trip to the dealers.haven't seen any of your good vids for a fair long time ?
Today I painted the exhaust pipe, started the engine to cure the paint and bam! forgot to reconnect the O2 sensor... so your HowTo video came in very handy
Excellent! You would have been totally out of luck trying to figure this out. This is a perfect testimonial! Now, about that paint, did that work well?
@@KARMAkazeMoto It's just heat resistant paint from a spray can, it does the job, - and the bike looks way better. What I noticed though is the fact that the engine after the pipe repaint does not stall anymore during warm-up phase even with lower outside temperatures, I guess this is coincidence with the paint job, I believe this might be related to the running-in phase now fully complete after 6000 km. At least i am very glad the engine does not stall every 10 seconds and especially in town when stopped at traffic lights... Additionally it does not require the lever on the handlebar to be pulled back for 1 minute until the engine has reached a reasonable temperature.
That's interesting. I also think it is a coincidence in timing. What I really find interesting is that you don't need that bi-starter lever. My Himalayan likes me to use it for ever start, even with the bike kept in the garage.
Thank You - Worked perfectly. I had also fitted heated grips and turned on while tank was off resulting in the warning. Cured - thank you so much for taking the time to investigate and share.
My 2022 Scram's engine light stayed on after a couple of failed starts on a cold morning. I tried the 'Three restarts' trick (advised on an owners forum) and also had the battery on a trickle charge for about 30 minutes....success - light went off! I don't know whether it was the three restarts or the trickle charge, or both....but it worked!

What a brilliant video. Just bought a new Himalayan so hope I will not get many problems. But knowledge is the tool. Thanks very much
Thanks for making the video, brother. I got caught with the old not plugging in the fuel pump harness trick before I tried to start it. Your video helped me out if a difficult situation in no time. Well done 👍
Cheers, Len
Right on! Happy to help.
Brilliant bit of detective work there Justin-many thanks for your research and then putting it all together.
Hope I will never have to do a reset, but great to know how if I need to.
🔍 My pleasure!
I don't own a RE but all motorcycle repair tips are great. Good research and patching the information together. I especially respect your sharing it for free.. Good video...
Most joys in life come from some sort of sharing. 🙂 I'll get a few RUclips ad dollars, but truly my goal was to empower everyone with this info. Feels good. 👍
Oh my gosh you just saved my afternoon. I had also been working on the electrics (wireless phone charging head, heated grips) and turned on the ignition with the tank off. Followed your instructions, worked perfectly!
This video will go down in history as my most helpful ever! Glad it solved your issue. 👍
Hello I wanted to thank you for this system which works very well I am in France I have had the bike since May I disconnected the fuel pump and reconnected the Contact without plugged in thanks to see I understood everything but future problem is what you do and great I will also go look at your content strength and courage to you 😊✌️
@@ducolthierry4807 Thank you for the kind words and positive feedback. 🙂🍻
I am lucky that I watched your video now. I will try your recommendation tomorrow and edit this comment.
Thanks Jestin Bro.
Great! Let me know if it works for you.
As soon as you said, "I disconnected my fuel pump and turned the key on" I knew what my problem was. Thanks
😊 to help!
Hi could you détail your tips please?
Brilliant!!! I've just turned off my light and cleared my ECU by following your instructions, the only thing I did differently was I forgot to remove the wire before starting the engine, which resulted in the light going off straight away without the need for multiple startups. Thank You!
Any time!
That's right, just done it too!
Found your video because my engine light came on after doing EXACTLY what you did - I installed heated grips and a couple other accessories and had been turning the key with the tank off to confirm things were working. Very helpful, thank you!
Excellent video. Troubleshooting guide every rider needs to be aware of.
I think so too. Saving time, hassle and money.
Thank you for this helpful video.
My manual TPS adjustment triggered the Check Engine “MIL” and your error codes list great explanation solved it!
Very cool!
You're welcome!
Thanks for this video. I've watched all your videos and enjoyed them all, but this one takes the prize for most helpful!
Right on! Glad it helped!
God bless you, heartily thank to you.
Incredibly helpful and well explained - thank you so much!
You're welcome.
Your video is still helping us. Thanks so much for this information!
You're very welcome.
So glad you found this video then. Give it a try and let me know how it works out. All the best!
I looked at the manufacture plate on the headstock/frame and found this number --
e11*168/2013*00274.
It is not the full VIN Number (Vechicle Identification Number) here in the UK but that 2013 is a bit odd!
Is that a clue, perhaps we have a different wiring harness or year model?
I look forward to your thoughts on this mystery
Thanks again in advance and a happy Christmas.
Gordon.
Awesome video mate, super helpful. Thanks for making it. 👍
This is a fantastic video, thanks so much! Don't expect to have any issues with my Himalayan for a while, but if I ever do, I'll start here!
I have a 2020 Himalayan in México. Only dealer is 8 hours away. Thank you, Thank you.!!!!
No problem! Happy to help!
You just helped a lot of people, good work Justin, always feels good to watch your videos.
Thanks! A guy just wrote me and said this just happened to him and it solved his problems! So glad. 😀
@@KARMAkazeMoto that's what I'm talking about, great keep on going.
Thanks.
You're very welcome.
New models reset by themselves when turning the engine off by the red emergency button followed by the key switch off 👍🏽
@EmanuelePaganini-v9y good to know. Is this for all errors, or perhaps only non-critical ones? If you know.
After all these months after watching your video, i needed it . Big Thank you
Wow how on earth did you find how to reset the Blinking light.. installed hot grips as per your video..and EFL came on used these instructions and like magic gone👍 thanks so much for sharing your knowledge
It worked! I had some dirt on my throttle position sensor connector and the code was correct (zero long six short) after cleaning and reconnecting it was back to normal. Reset sequence worked on first try. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome. Glad you could sort it out so easy. 👍🙂
Thank you very much. Accidentally set off the MIL and used your tip. Working like a charm.
You are geniuses brO my customer bike is facing issue now i can fix it after watching this video
I love "how to" youtubes..... great work. Thx.
My pleasure! You're very welcome.
Thank you! Just did the same as you did (removed tank and wired in a new device) and had the check engine light on afterward. As soon as you said you would get the light after turning on key with fuel pump disconnected I realized what I did. Now I know how to get rid of it!
You're welcome!
This is very helpful. I'm diagnosing an issue on my bike and have had to reset my ECU a few times.
Glad it helped. Happy Holidays!

THANKS A LOT, man. Helping a Brazilian to solve problems that gets to my repair shop here.
Thank you for this. like you disconnected fuel pump accidentally will under the tank i only had to start mine once for the light to go out but this has saved me a trip to the dealers.haven't seen any of your good vids for a fair long time ?
Double thumbs up for you dude
thank you
Man! You rock. Did exactly as instructed, only difference being i forgot to remove the wire but it still worked. It's a euro iv Himalayan
Great news. Glad this helped.
You are so smart. This will surely help many. Great thumbs up for you.👍👍👍
Today I painted the exhaust pipe, started the engine to cure the paint and bam! forgot to reconnect the O2 sensor... so your HowTo video came in very handy
Dude!!! Worked like a charm! THANK YOU!
Best video I ever made! Glad it helped!
Sir, you are a genius....
🤝🙏
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Well done sir.
Thank You - Worked perfectly. I had also fitted heated grips and turned on while tank was off resulting in the warning. Cured - thank you so much for taking the time to investigate and share.
You're welcome!
Note taken, great info when my nearest dealer is a two hour ride away. Hey, all the best with the trip to Dead Horse!
Thanks Peter! Headed out in a few minutes.
This is a nugget of YT gold! I now keep a piece of wire under the seat.
Great!
Be sure to keep the steps written on some waterproof paper in your tool kit. 😉
I need to follow that advice as well.
Appreciate all your work on RE H as I am planning to buy RE H too.
You're welcome. 🙂
Don’t even have a Himalayan yet but this video made me hit subscribe...great info!
Great feedback! 😃👍
Amazing that you figured this out. Definitely going to be helpful to someone who owns this bike.
That's what I thought! 😁
You are amazing man .like your videos verry much i just bouhgt a hymalian 2021 and had the problem of that warning light when i instaled my totom navigation .thanks to you i was possible to reset it .👍👍👍

Hi Justin! How's it goin'?
I disconnected the fuel pump on my Himalayan and forgot to reconnect it, so the light went on...But I remembered this video about the service light, came back, did the wire trick and it worked fine, Thanks to you!!!
Just to add some information... in my case the light went out on the third time, not the forth.
Cheers from Brazil!!!
Great video, I had the exact same problem from disconnecting the fuel pump. Thank you
You're welcome.
Thanks! It worked fine! It only took to starts to clear the MIL light thow...

Excellent help! Ironically I just had my 2019 model (new late December) apart this week fitting a variety of part, and that involved removing the tank, and disconnecting the fuel pump. Test rode today to test all the mods and guess what, yup it was on! Your video saved me a ton of time and worked first try. I used a wire with alligator clips both ends, and that will now live in the bike with a written version of your directions. Again ironically I tested that wire to see if I can use it to power a relay and wondered what it was for :-) Just glad my LED lights and auxiliary power relay etc was not the cause. Thanks for making this video! Great help!
