I wonder how the man would react to seeing himself in the recruitment video 20 years later, the thoughts of the park's closure, and the thoughts of six flags today. That would be pretty interesting to find out. Wherever he is and whatever he's doing right now, I wish him a happy two decades of the recruitment video and getting people excited about the new Worlds of Adventure and keep living a great life. He'll be more excited about the one ticket 6 worlds for the new Lost Island Theme Park next year.
RIP SFWOA/GEAUGA LAKE! My soul is crushed we will never step foot in that park again, ride those incredible coasters, see the penguins, experience the shows, hear the sounds of this amazing place. This was the best place on earth......... Tears will always be shed over this place. Deeply saddened I cannot share this park with my fiance. It meant so much to me having worked there for several years. Goodbye SFWOA
This video is from 2001. You can tell since the floating boardwalk was at the far side of the lake. It was a nice park with great potential. Something for all ages.
I wish this place was still open...ugh. Imagine, it's 2016, and your mom says "Come on kids! Dad is already in the car! We are going to Six Flags Worlds of Adventure! They just opened a hotel next to the park. We are staying for 2 nights!!!"
I visited the area the park used to inhabit yesterday. It's such a depressing feeling actually being able to see across the body of water from the front gate. It's been close to 4 years and I'm still not over it. Six Flags might have been just as guilty for Geauga Lakes demise as much as Cedar Fair, but to me at least when they were the owners, though not the same feel as the original Geauga Lake, the park flourished.
Geauga Lake closed because Six Flags bought the theme park+water park+sea world+ added 5 roller coasters to the theme park. Apparently, Six Flags lost track of how much money they were spending, and after losing millions the park was sold to Cedar Fair. Cedar Fair was losing money on the park as well due to being close to Cedar Point, so Ceda Fair decided to close the park as well.
Cedar Fair might have been the one to pull the plug on Geauga Lake's life support, but anyone who puts all of the blame on CF is as senile as Kinzel. Six Flags was just as responsible, and if CF hadn't purchased the park when it did, SF would have done the same thing here as they did to AstroWorld in Texas.
Not really.... you see funtime bought geauga lake in 1968.... then sold it to premier in 1996. ....premier bought six flags in 1998. To blame six flags at all is kind of odd, maybe branding it a six flags, maybe. It wasn't a six flags park very long, and had the same management for a whiwl
As I remember, Six Flags sold the park to Cedar Fair in the first place. CF, in turn, sent the rides to parks that actually needed them, while Six Flags has continued to ignore Six Flags America and Great Escape. with SFA having several rides and its best coaster removed with nothing being added until 2012, when we got a shitty B&M stand-up that treats your head like John McEnroe would treat a tennis ball.
I live in this area and unfortunately never got to ride the coasters but growing up I did go to the waterpark on the sea world side. It's boring now because they haven't gotten an expansion since the wave pool which was i think 2006. So it's kinda boring riding the same rides
this vid is actually from 2001. you can see this cause the dolphins were in the former shamu stadium in that year, also the location of the floating boardwalk.
If anyone actually visited the park before CF bought it.. it was still a ghost land. That parks downward spiral started WAY before CF bought it. They just stuck in the dagger.. which is what you do in a BUSINESS.
If CF wouldn't have bought this park I'm sure six flags would've closed it a lot sooner than CF did. Ohio is not a very large state, so to have 3 major amusement parks is way too many for a state of the size of Ohio. Geauga lake was never meant to be the park it became.
Highly doubt, attendance was booming under six flags. Attendance declined when CD closed the wildlife part and took some things out while keeping parts of the park off-limits. Then they took 2 coasters out. Then they closed... They didn't want competition. Look at Cedar Point... It booms. If only Six Flags wouldn't have sold
True I had more fun in those summers than now.but than we had a house with an over the top mortgage on it.thanks to the housing crisis of 2008 we no longer live there.
Six Flags built this park out of greed! Aurora, Ohio was not built to host such monster amusement park! For this to be true, the town would have to widen existing roads and built multi-lane highways. But there was insufficient infrastructure for the rural community of Aurora, Ohio. Six Flags would lose its soul in bankruptcy court in 2009.
I loved and wished geagua lake was still around. It's ashame how arroura delebertly wanted this park gone. It funny they complained about the traffic. But,they shore lived the tax money they made off this park. And it's ashame how six flags and cedar fair delebratly destroyed this park. And ran it into the ground to fail. I reather go to geagua lake then cedar point. Don't get me wrong. I love cedar point. But, what I hate when going to cedar point dealing with the long ride lines. That was what drawer me to geagua lake. I was able to get on and off rides all day. And not dealing with over crowding. I wish Cleveland would make a new amusement park here. I will forever miss you geagua lake.
And Great Escape just this year got.....a Flying Scooters ride. Their best coaster is a Vekoma Boomerang, their flat rides aren't fun aside from the S&S space shot tower.
Excuse me, are you saying a boomerang is better than Comet? Are you mad? You're entitled to your opinion but unless it is somehow so much better than the other boomerangs (it was down when I was there) but Comet is legit a good ride. I'd put it in the same league as Wild One although I think Comet has stronger airtime so I prefer it. It would be in the same league as Phoenix if it ran with the original trains that used buzbars.
I wonder if there is a way to bring this park back I mean this would bring jobs back for people and fun for families in the summer. New rides and new attractions. It's possible to do this

I used to work here as a SPFX Makeup artist for their Fright Fest event, BEST JOB EVER!!!
I agree! six flags was awesome

If I win the lottery I'm going to make a new Geauga Lake. I'll bring back the favs and create new awesome rides!
@jjthered1 yea its ppl riding the ripcord ride which was located right in front of Batman (the coaster they are showing at 3:37)

Nice video. It's sad the way things turned out. Geauga Lake deserved a better fate.

Look at 3:36 it looks like something falls from the roller coaster
That was the rip cord dive tower thing in the background, I don't know what it's called but I did the one at SixFlags great America
if cedar fair didnt take over ten there would be everything you see there!!!
Thanks for sharing

Not to mention Kennywood was doing way better than GL

Your Right. They dont even have those nice animals there anymore.
