Despite the inconsistent finishing, a solid offering. I agree with your observation about dial, texture looks somewhat gloppy and not crisp. Love the drilled lugs and your strap show definitely helps sell the watch. Thank you Steve!
Looks and dimensions seem to indicate that this is an homage to the Marinemaster 300 1965 reinterpretation that was released last year. I've been hoping someone would make one, and I definitely like it. Weird dial design, though.
Great review! I recently bought the case and bracelet, without the dial. I too dislike the way the dial looks. The watch is a little more blingy than I typically like, but in this case, it works and I really like it. I also find it very comfortable. In my mind, it looks like a cross between a 62mas (the case) and a sub (the bezel toothing); which I think works well. The end links on mine fit perfectly, it must just be the bent spring bars on yours. Also, is it just me, or is the number 30 on the bezel misaligned?
It seems like a hell of a watch for the money. Too bad about the few minor issues. Not deal breakers though. Thanks for the great review and looking forward to the Baltany review!
I’ve got the thorn pelagos homage in all 3 colours & they are great looking & well put together watches. This also looks fabulous but reminds me of me of the 62mas…..also the dial & the see through case back ….🤔
... Aside from the dial, it's great! 😂. Thorn can certainly do better. Great review as always Steve! Thanks for the link to Cincy straps. That's going to be a great resource
Sapphire sandwich! 🥪 Case is nicely done with the drilled lugs and brushed sides, chamfers and smooth underside. Thanks for the review and the strap show, Steve. 👋
I like the specs. I did pick up on that over polishing on the lugs and it was very distracting. Also, I agree - that dial is pretty stinky at some angles. I'd rather pick up a cheap SM or save a little more for a Proxima.
The weird bent spring bars are just a lazy way to counter the holes being not aligned with the end link. It was completely impossible to swap them out for something else and I had a terrible time trying to get them in again. My piece also had a misaligned bezel, bad end link fit and it runs pretty slow. Overall a good looking watch with dubious quality control. I would not recommend it.
@@ulig12 interesting. I didn't have any issues getting the bracelet back on, but it doesn't inspire confidence at all that it'll hold together...it'll be disappointing if I can't fit a nice set of springbars in there.
The Chinese can’t escape their bad taste in color schemes. Their watches fair better when in matte colors or enameled/lacquered dials. Thanks for the review.
I’ll put up my “crappy watch from China,” my San Martin, against all cheap to affordable watches, and in most cases, my San Martin will come out on top. I once too was resistant to Chinese watches, but after getting my one and only San Martin last year, I see what the hype is all about 😅
You too don't get it! This watch costs 100 or 200$, because it stamped on it "Thorn" and not " Seiko". That alone adds 2000$. That's why a Rolex costs over 10k$. Because of the brand!!! Why doesn't anybody get this? So do you wanna wear a look alike homage Seiko or a real one? I'd go for the real one and if I don't have the money to buy one, I don't kid and fool myself in buying a Thorn watch instead. That's called cheating to attain a social status that is out of your reach. Been in your place at one time and quickly snapped out of it when I came to my senses.
oh I totally get it....but paying more for an inferior product (not saying this is better than the seiko, but I can say some models ARE nicer than their inspiration) is't worth it to me. I've never been one to care much about brand (at least outside of highschool) nor do I care what others think about my watches...I buy them for me, not for anyone else. if that's you, that's fine. but it's not me.
I’m not a fan of homage watches but to me there are no Seikos worth more than $500 let alone over 2k. And no Rolex is not worth what they charge either. Don’t fall for the hype.
@@tonyrome655 Oh yeah! No Seiko is worth over 500$ and they are strangely selling millions of them OVER that price. Go figure!!! And you're the intelligent dude that didn't fall into this brand hype and are in a crusade against an overpriced worldwide recognised brand making watches since 1881. Seiko is crying loosing you as a customer for Chinese junk brands. Next time someone tells you: hey, nice watch, what is it? You will answer: Oh, it is a Pagani design or a snorkeling Addiesdive! Thank you for sharing your thoughts in a respectful way.
Steve, I don't need another watch, but this thing is tempting
Was waiting for a review of this one. Definitely getting one
They almost got it right. Maybe a mm off the thickness and a dateless option would have been nice

yup, that's the one.
Thanks for the review Steve. I've been eyeing this one for a little while so nice to have a positive review.
@@peternic1 thanks for watching!
The light blue version must be amazing in person with that reflective blue bezel
waiting for this review! was looking to get the white dial and blue bezel🎉
They have plenty of nice watches.......but the weird text ("Tribution" "Exloration Road") on many of the models doesn't do it for me.
So no complaints on this particular Thorn? Maybe they listened this time.

Really like it apart from the dial. If it was black enamel with no texture I probably would have been very tempted.

Not bad but I just don't like the looks of that dial texture so I guess it isn't for me. No date or the date at 6 would have been better too.
Indeed beautiful. If I were to get it - which I won’t be - I’d swap the dial out for a genuine SPB143 or similar OEM 62MAS Seiko dial
Nice watch, looks like a beefier 62MAS, def a tropic band for it!
I've been snooping about at Thorn watches... They seem Really well made for the prices.. I'm Diggin' this 'un too tbh.
Very nice one ! But Marine Master text on the dial + Shiny bezel insert instead of a mat one make it a no. Ill wait a possible V2

THE WATCH IS BEAUTIFUL I LIKE IT
I was literally suffering through thorn watches right now
I wonder if the lume is better on this or on the Thorn SHY036?
FINALLY A MARINEMASTER HOMAGE
Hmm, do I go with this black/blue one or the white dial???
Got one of these and love it!!!
Fortis is the Swiss watch company that uses the name Marinemaster.
that's the one. thank you. been used since the 60's before seiko used it.
