That ticking sound is a Castellan Clockwork you missed that you can shoot. Its needed so when you shoot all 16 at any saves and playthrough. You can get the Primal knife that can be upgraded to unbreakable.

You can shoot them in the leg and when they fall you can get to them and finish them with R1 with knife so you spend less bullets also save the rocket launcher to the bosses because it damage more then normal guns
