For every lavish, state-of-the-art, over-the-top home under construction in the Hamptons, there is an equally compelling, culturally significant home that has been restored and maintained its original designs. This fascinating glimpse inside these classic homes aims to capture the illustrious architecture and design of the Hamptons historic houses. Accompanied by architectural photographer Stanley Rumbough and Hamptons historian Richard Barons, readers are invited “over the privet hedges” of dozens of homes that offer clues to the Hamptons’ storied past. From quaint, 18th-century cottages to the Sister Parrish-style decor of Hamptons legend Dina Merrill, the houses profiled here boast historical significance and impeccable style. Heartfelt contributions from Hamptons icons David Netto and Alec Baldwin recall a time before million-dollar homes dominated the area’s pristine beaches and lovely lanes.

Mary, I'm still recovering from the prices of your amazing purchases. Other than the fact that you have impeccable taste, how blessed your children have been growing up hearing your lovely voice.

You are too funny. My children often joked that I used "the angry librarian voice" when I was upset with them...but that angry librarian got things done! 😜

What a beautiful place to be able to live. The houses are extraordinary. I always wondered why they were platforms on top the roof I didn’t understand that but now I do. What a lovely book to put on my list

East Hampton is a beautiful town. I have been there several times . I live 40 minutes away .One of my childhood friends lived there year round . While in art school she was a caretaker for 3 homes there. Every milestone birthday 5 of us who have been friends since grammar school would gather there when my friend bought a house there where she lived with her husband and chocolate lab. There is a restaurant called Rowdy Hall where we would go for dinner sometimes. Great memories. She now lives in a beautiful home outside of Asheville. Our next milestone birthday dare I say will be 70 we may return to East Hampton . The ocean is breathtaking I could hear the tide at night when I slept but the mornings sitting out by the pond and watching and listening to the beautiful birds was my favorite. I hope I can find the book. I would love to send it to her. We always loved the privets and wondered many times what was behind them ❤ Thank you so much for another wonderful video.

These are great memories! I love that there is a Rowdy Hall Restaurant. I hope you are able to find a copy as well. They are out there, although they seem to be expensive.

My grandmother lived in East Hampton and growing up. I spent every summer on East Hampton beach almost every day riding my bike to the beach, no lifeguard. (In the 1970s) my uncles friend owned a night club called the Hampton attic, and they were parties every night and they hired my 80 year okd uncle Alfred worked in the bar in the morning cleaning up the bar and he had something to do to keep him busy .I have so many fun memories. and I go and visit my grandmother’s house every year since she’s gone .my father used to take me in the winter with my dog and we used to run on the beach with our dogs. ( my grandmother s dog too

Wonder what connection this place and family has with Pheneas Banning in California. There is a museum in Wilmington Ca., named by him. It's the Phineas Banning Museum. Connection to the last house.

I really enjoy your videos and especially your diy and craft segment. Please reconsider your sponser of Temu. If items are that cheap, the people who manufacture, package and ship the items across the ocean are not being paid a living wage or have questionable practices.

Mary is a woman of exquisite taste. TEMU is a subsidiary of a Chinese company that sells cheap crap.

I have had several people ask this question, and to the best of my knowledge, Gerrie Bremermann did not write a book nor was she the subject of one. Although, her designs were featured in many periodicals.
