What an awesome Godly inspirational story! So much love and respect to Mr Ryan. I had a track coach who changed my life in 1972 and I still run to this day. So many lessons learned. I feel sorry for all the young people who never had the opportunity to learn discipline, hard work, and perseverance. Also the benefits reaped of good health and not giving up. May the Lord continue bless you and your family, Mr. Ryan.

Jim Ryun was my brother’s hero growing up. I can see why now. Great athlete, better person.

The other runner involved who also fell was Ghanaian athlete Billy Fordjour. His best the time, (set in 1973) was 3.47, some 14 seconds slower than Jim. Billy would probably not be included in latter day Olympic competition as he would be outside the top 56 world ranked competitors.
