I just want to say thank you Dr. Newsom for all you do. I’m from Texas and I know you do a lot for the women in the UK but you also do so for those of us in the US.

You mention all my symptoms! I stopped driving. The insomnia is horrific, joy has left.
I truly wish doctors everywhere would take note and stop trying to push antidepressants, which carry much more risk than our own hormones.

Thank you so much Dr. Newson. This helped me understand why I was diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder, which is a nervous system problem that has nothing to do with actual hearing...

Thank you once again, Louise, for explaining things clearly. The WHY is so important and so rarely spoken about. It's as if doctors think we are not bright enough to understand! We are - and thank you for being committed to the cause.

I went to my doctors over the past few years and actually they suggested menopause and I got angry because I felt they were fobbing me off. What they failed to explain is that perimenopause can start 7 years before menopause so just because I was still having periods and have PCOS doesn’t mean perimenopause wasn’t affecting my whole body. They didn’t say we can do something about this, they just left me feeling like they didn’t want to help me. I needed them to talk to me more and explain, not just say ‘could it be the menopause?’ 😮

I don’t think your poor GP could ever have been good enough for you. Perhaps, unfortunately for you, your doctor was not a mind reader and couldn’t imagine exactly what you needed to hear to satisfy you. Perhaps you didn’t like to hear those particular words. But hey Ho it’s always easier to blame the stupid doctor rather than look to our own deficiencies.

Thank you for your wonderful work. This was me. I felt like I was losing my mind. Now 7 months after starting hrt I’m starting to feel myself and everything doesn’t feel so absolutely overwhelming.

In a future RUclips/IG can you please explain more about progesterone and its hormonal cascades (to cortisol, to testosterone, to estrogen)? When I started oral micronized progesterone it felt like it put my brain on 1000% - on the one hand that felt good, but then it started to make my nervous system to overwhelmed, feeling extremely angry, I couldn't sleep, and felt like I was having extra-pyramidal movements. I ended up taking the progesterone intravaginally (same oral capsule) thanks to info from you. Even then, I can only take it once every other day or I feel the same symptoms I felt on the oral. I did some of my own research on progesterone, but I'd love your take on it, because it's not totally clear to me. Anecdotally, I have heard from many women they have the same reaction to progesterone. It seems progesterone can break down into metabolites that bind to GABA, leading to women feeling calm from it. But for some of us, is it not doing that? Is it traveling down the cortisol route for some reason? So interested! Thanks! PS: I do have a history of mTBI several times in my life.

Hope you found some explanation to help you, as it could be also happening to other women who may not have spoken up about it but suffering in silence or just accepting it as a normal side effect. So thankyou for flagging it up Dr Alison. Woman-power together! ❤

Make sure your on Magnesium l-Theonate at night. Every woman should be on Magnesium. It helps the brain as well. And maybe try DIM too. I would never take anything orally especially hormones.

I'm trying to understand why my mother (adopted) who was 87 when she passed away last December never went on a hrt, mind was sharp, even had quadruple bypass at 64. How can I say to my husband I need hormones when most women live without them... It does not make sense to him. I'm 63 years old and just started on HRT March 12th. Nothing is changed so far. I'm on the lowest dose of estrogen, take Progesterone and testosterone.
I have all the 20 symptoms. Most days I just want to give up. Very dark thoughts, very nervous/ anxious system. Woken up every night multiple times with night sweats. I'm at the end of my rope. This is destroying my relationship and and I don't have any support ( No friends no family). I have a naturopath that I was able to get on HRT with, and starting to see a therapist. I have suffered a lot and still am, I'm at the lowest i've ever been so confused. I'm grateful to you for teaching me about HRT. Just hope it's not too late 😢

Just fyi...I have the same stupid symptoms and last night my doctor called me because I sent her a message. Anyway...I stopped Estradiol patch and Progesterone last night and I noticed 2 hours post stopping the Estrogen...my pain was considerably going down. I was in horrible generalized pain over the weekend...and there was no reason to be in such pain. This morning I woke up mentally WELL, very minimal amount of pain and with a desire to live. Check your medication as they can create problems too. Just as Dr. News on said...not all have the same genetics.

I'm 31 years old, live in the UK, have been diagnosed with severe PMS and idiopathic chronic fatigue. I also have C-PTSD. There is alot of overlap when it comes to my symptoms. Anxiety, low mood , fatigue, pain can fit in all my diagnoses. Although the severe PMS symptoms are worse several days before brown or red vaginal discharge. Also my internal tremors and muscle spasms get worse during transitions (changes in vaginal discharge) told my GP and got told "I don't know what to do about that". I have tried 4 SSRI's and none have helped. I felt let down and disheartened. Mabye I have pre-menstrual exacerbation?

Estradiol 0.5 mg twice a week caused me so much generalized inflammation and pain. I stopped it last night and my pain went down considerably. I may need to start bioidentical compound HRT.

That's inflammation in your body. And I wonder how well your gut is too. Women need to do years of preparation before they start hormone supplementation. You cut out alcohol you cut out crisps/bad carbs. You look after the gut microbiome.

Dear Dr Nelson thanks so much for this important information. I'm 59 post menopausal now 3 years and have been on her patches for 2 years but I feel it's not working well as I have those symptoms you described. I'm on 50/140 Estalis patches. My doc doesn't believe in checking my hormones. He would just rather increase dose to 50/250 estrogen/progesterone. Would this be wise? I don't want to take ssri. I would be greatful to get your view please. 🙏 Thanks

Truly loved the presentation about our brain as a layman I was able to have a clear understanding of the importance of estrogen in our brain...on that note there's still physicians encouraging women that is imperative if your ministering HRT only duting the time of menopause and for the shortest time 😢 I have been on HRT FOR 13 years after having a total hysterectomy, now I'm entering 61 years-old and the demand on coming off the hormones is imperative, I have tried winning off them with no success...what must one do....I'm at their mercy 🙏

The research doesn't support their idea. It supports yours. Perhaps if you can get that to them, or change providers, and keep changing until you get what you need.

I have had just paralyzing anxiety since turning 52...using estrogen patch for two years almost, no uterus...but it is not helping at all now, even when i increase the dose. I've given up my life, afraid to leave the house, losing work hours, losing weight from the stress. I keep getting offered antidepressants and antipsychotic meds which give me even more fear...if i could just get the right dose and type of HRT i feel i'd be normal again. But how do you know what you need...so sad.

You check your thyroid?? T3 and T4... sounds like hypothyroidism. Which is caused by your hormone deficiency. Are you on Magnesium Glycinate or Magnesium L-Theonate you take magnesium at night. Also VitD3 and K2 daily.

Loiluise, the basic science was properly calculated. The WHI proponents told the statistical police to go away when they complained the breast cancer finding was not statistical. These proponents of the WHI knew what they were doing. They needed to show something for the money spent, damned how many women are hurt by it.

Whom funded that? And where did all the money go... I smell corrupt and nefarious intentions. Also they got to push their SSRI's and anti psychotics. 2020 comes to mind too. I learnt so much about the pharmaceutical industry.
