Well buddy you did it! You know in about 150 years from now, you'll be taught in schools, how you went and finished the expedition that others couldn't....Your name should go down in history. It's a very proud day to be a Newfoundlander!
@@skoteoutdoors you're right....one hell of a ride! I'm sure your mind went in all directions being out on the ocean totally alone. I'm sure the mental struggle was worse than the physical one at times. But perseverance paid off! Super cool!!
Yeah, this guy needs a lot more subscribers! I like when he builds cabins! I comment when I can so his videos get promoted. Takes a lot of grit, Matty, but you got it! Good goin'.
Your short film packs so much into its brief runtime. It evokes the unimaginable soreness of rowing every day, the bravery required to face everything alone after losing Adam to his shoulder injury, and the unbelievable mental energy it took to keep going. Rowing alone in the ocean, never knowing when a whale might flip you over-it's hard to fathom rowing hundreds of miles alone. Yet, whether you're cooking or epoxying, you look perfectly comfortable. Your gratitude and relief for The Cambridge Palace, your love for the pure simplicity of life-listening to music, reading books, staying warm in a sleeping bag-shine through. You must have been utterly worn out, and you filmed the whole way, demonstrating incredible resolve in the face of adversity: "Get over it, fix my situation," and you did. The polar bear was a potential game-changer, and the devastating solar panel failure was tragic. Even after all that, you still had to walk to town in the middle of the night. It's inspiring, poignant, scary, uplifting, hopeful, and brave. Thank you for sharing your journey. I can't wait to see the final full-length film.
wow that is a very good summary of the journey, and yes your right. it was exhausting in a whole different kind of way. by far the most powerful experience of my life. really thankful for your time to write this comment. looking forward to sharing the full story with you.
Many people couldn't even realize how much danger you were really in. Most guys would shed a few tears once they realized the nearest Starbucks was 500 miles away! You're a true adventurer.
I have been watching you since you departed on the Athabasca. This was next level! Cant wait to see what comes next! You did not make your final destination, but that is part of the adventure. Better to cut it short than be a missing adventurer.
wow always stoked to hear from someone who has been around that long. very happy to have your support. and yes this one makes the athabasca look like a cake walk lol

Just binge watched the whole series as soon as I got back. Epic work gentlemen. I think that without the safety of the Garmin, it was the right call. Better to adventure another day, you both achieved an incredible feat. Congratulations.
well I hope this kind of shows you that you could, we did all this with no real knowledge or training with regards to rowing. it wasn't rocket science though, just like a lot of things in life.
Amazing journey. I remember watching your survival series where your friend left early to. You always hang in there. More impressive you made the boat as well. Mind blown. All power to you 🙏🏼💪😊
The fact that you had your food flown in to Cambridge Bay and not deplete the community store was a great idea. Most communites get groceries once a year on the sea lift. Not sure how they get their meat and milk from. I thought your cabin build was epic. Now your rowing around the arctic. You are inspirational.
What an epic adventure brotha. your struggle is super inspiring and should be on the discovery channel. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next ! Thanks for taking us along
Inspiring and smooth one, and I loved how mother nature humbles and breaks you in tears. We need those feelings, too. That way, we appreciate the good times in our life better. We'll done sir!
My buddy and I took a three month canoe trip when we were both 18. I know a little about how you felt. I also remember the strange feeling of going into a building after living outside and in a tent for so long! They said cowboys of old talked about that a lot. I tell people you can’t really even began to truly understand the outdoors until after your first month out there. I remember fondly all the planning with food, gear and the weight limit. What awesome fun these kind of trips are! I’ve been to the Arctic Ocean three times now and as you said, it is a magical place! People that have been there understand that power and magic. Someday you must visit Antarctica! I have and it is amazing too as you might imagine. Great videos and great adventure!!
Woww, this is very impressive. Antarctica is a entirely different ball game I would imagine. Your very blessed. So few people get to experience that. Thanks for watching
Amazing journey, Matty. And, incredible resilience. You have not failed; your equipment is what failed you. Going solo was truly courageous. You have such strong self reliance, especially after living off the land and building log cabins, for instance. If anyone can do this, you can. I suspect you may plan another trip again?? Stay safe.
I am Absolutely Glad I stumbled across your channel you are one Resilient Individual with some Serious Grit a Real Voyager/ Pioneer in everysense of the meaning pretty much as Durable as Navy SEAL just without a Trident this is the kindof Heart and willingness it takes for people who make it to pass selection for Special Operations. Your Definitely somebody to seem that would have what it takes Proud for you bud All The Respect in the world coming to you From Pacific Northwest Oregon. Good job buddy!🇺🇸🤙🤝
This looks like it was an incredible undertaking. It inspires 2 thoughts, and a comment. When I was 23, I had a 21-year-old cousin who disappeared when he attempted to solo climb Mt. Rainier with inadequate equipment. Even when a person sets out to attempt something all by themselves, we are all still social beings dependent on each other (as these videos attest!), and our decisions continue to affect other people deeply. Any disappointment with not reaching the originally intended finish line pales in comparison to the alternative. Second: I once attempted a major undertaking and only made it 2/3 of the way before I had to stop for my own health and safety reasons. Other people with me were able to finish. It took me about a decade to come around to the perspective that the 2/3 mark was still an amazing accomplishment! I was also later able to go back, having gained much more experience, and successfully finished. It feels very different to succeed after having to decide to stop. Comment: I can't believe you did this entire thing with your oarlocks facing backwards?!?!?!?!? (not sure if that was intentional and explained somewhere else - found your videos because I was looking for boatbuilding content).
You sir are one tough mother-“trucker” .physically hard ,mentally harder. Keep your chin up ,you had a very successful journey. You should be extremely proud of yourself. Stay safe and take care.
Just found your channel. Awesome adventure. Your outlook your perseverance and your demeanor are all tops I think very few people would even consider attempting that especially solo. The isolation and the vastness look truly humbling.
As someone who's lived on a rowcruiser, rowing in less harsh conditions and with more contact and support for a month, this is so incredibly impressive. I cannot fathom everything you went through that you weren't able to capture, and the mental fortitude you found in yourself through this journey. I'd love to talk to you about your trip. I'm looking to do something like this in the Arctic, and would love to ask you questions.

hello Labrador! thank you, and I think your right. all emotions aside it would have been an irrational decision to continue without a reliable power supply for safety and nav.
Well done! That was some expedition. If I build a rowcruiser I think I'll install a pivoting leeboard rather than a daggerboard. I've sailed a dinghy with a daggerboard and was always hitting something when in shallower water and the impact also weakened the daggerboard case resulting in a difficult to repair leak. My sailing canoe uses a pivoting leeboard which is much better.
