I bought the 3.5# from Wiseman and love it. Rides in the truck always and has limbed up a few good size fir trees already. It did take an hr of file and puck work to get it in good shape, but well worth it for American made at that price. I also sanded down the handle a bit, especially the fawn's foot because I have small hands. It comes with what appears to be some sort of clear poly finish but since I sanded it I used a natural danish oil to recoat. And the mask is well made on mine.

I just bought the 3.5lb along with a council tool hudson bay from wisemen trading through Amazon, I sure do hope that snow and nealley had fixed their heat treat issues they had. Can't wait till both axes get here, as the tree in my front yard needs to go, who plants poison oak in their front yard anyway ( was here when we got the house 5 years ago, didn't realize what it was till recently)

I have the Hudson bay, it is a good inexpensive axe. To say it doesn't come pre sharpened is an understatement. I don't mind that I had to sharpen it. But you will have to do a lot of work to get it sharp. You can do it with a stone if you take your time. I would avoid using a grinder as you may damage the temper.
The surface finish is the only real complaint I have. It isn't polished at all and has the deep scratches from what looks like an 80 grit belt sander. But then again it is half the price of some of the polished axes.

The down side is that they are coated in varnish. The handle and head shouldn't have varnish all over them.

Not sure if you guys still read these, but is the poll hardened on the snow & Nealley Hudson Bay Axe?

Sure do. I think that snow & Nealley does not.

1080 except the 3.5# is 1055. I have the 3.5# and it is a great limber when talking care of fir and larch for firewood
