Technically, according to the Catholic church, anyone who has ever been baptized is still a Catholic. It removes your original sin and puts a permanent mark on your soul that can only be removed if the pope himself excommunicates you by name.

I kindly disagree from my point of view. Was raised a Catholic, but not heavy duty, but never gave God a thought to be honest. Things change in life after you go through traumatic events and you get older. I'm not a Christian or in any religion, but I have my own ideas which are not traditional. I'm trying to open up my eyes and listen better - not everything needs to be spelled out to you.

@@Xenor999 Evil doesn’t exist either, at least not in the way people think of it. Nobody does anything purely for the sake of evil. Everyone that does bad things from stealing to mass murder does it because in their mind they are justified. A person that steals thinks of the world as unfair. Why should you have something and they don’t? if they take yours, you’ll probably just get another one and then you’ll both have one.
Every person that kills believes that either the person they kill deserves it, or they have no empathy and they think of them as irrelevent, like killing a video game character. Anyone that wants to kill has been hurt and wants to turn that hurt on other people because they see everyone else as evil.
People that con people for money or power do that for the same reason. When you feel that other people are evil, you have no empathy for them when you take their money. It also makes you feel superior to them.
There is no such thing as evil, there are only people.

i think everything is about perspective. you wont know what good things are if there is no bad things to compare it to.
and youre not truly a free person if you cant choose to do evil or good things.
its not about adding pain and misery to good/enjoyable situations. its about being able to enjoy good times and enjoyable situations because youve had it rough before, and you know bad things can happen and does happen.

George Carlin was more than a stand up comedian, he was an astute observer. His command of the English language was on par university profs. He made us laugh by making us listen. When you listen, you learn. That's why he is so popular 6 years after his death. I first saw George on Johnny Carson in the 60's and watched his transformation into who he is on stage. He rejected the tired, canned jokes that passed for comedy, preferring to embrace the changing social mores coming up from the young folks. He demanded to tell the jokes he wanted to, not what he was told to do. His 'Seven Words You Can't Say on Television' is part of that. Please check out more of George's stuff, he was an amazing American icon.

Raised Catholic, I grew up and 45 now, atheist in the meanwhile for many years. This act is one of my favorite in comedy, because he explains it in a way that is rational. I believe most people believe religion as they are afraid to perish and simply be gone, end of story! Not the way I see it: after billions of years of universe and evolution you exist, that in itself is a miracle. You get born out of almost nothing, get to live a life, enjoy a life partially on your own terms, which species besides humans can say that on this planet alone? And when you die, your energy goes back to the universe, in our case our planet. Isn't what way better then religion? No guilt, no ownership, it's nature and you're being a miraculous part of it, having the privilege of being a human...you could have just as well been born a fly

About 9-10 years ago, during the time i used to be running my own freelance business, there was one particular day, bad things just kept happening throughout the whole day... and at the end of it.. i was like talking to myself like "i can believe the luck" and I kind of spoke and asked.. is there really a god. I questioned it's existance. truly i asked this question... It was one of the lowest points but i still tried to be positive.
The next day i was waiting for one of my clients... and again it started getting shitty.. he was late. in fact about an hour late .. i was like oh man.. another day. He turned up finally but i wasnt that peeved, then he treated me to one of his beer bottles that was actually not meant for sale. He imported some really special beer bottled by the monks and it was a limited edition sort of thing. It was called Deus.

True, imo nobody would need it if their parents didn’t tell them there’s a god when they are children, since children believe basically whatever their parents tell them. But yeah I’ve known many people who got out of control with drugs that used religion to help clean themselves up, it’s not the only way but it is like free therapy if you don’t take in to account all the stress of thinking there’s a hell that you might go to if you eat shellfish on Sunday or whatever

I just feel like religion has caused more harm than good. It’s great that people have their faith to keep them going in tough times but I mean there have been literal wars fought over this stuff that we don’t even know if it’s true or not. To me personally it’s wierd that people will just believe whatever is written in some book and spend their entire lives worshipping a god that may or may not exist. Idk if there is a god or not we’ll never know but if there is why does he/she let so much evil run rampant in the world

He wasn't just any other comedian, Momo. But he was a *philosopher,* actor, author and social critic and a very smart man. Born and raised as a New Yorker, and was known for his black comedy and reflections on politics, English language, psychology, religion and various taboo subjects. He and his *"7 dirty words"* comedy skit(which was a pretty funny and relatable one and recommended) were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme court case F.C.C. v Pacifica Foundation, in which a 5-4 decision affirmed the government's power to regulate incident material on the public airwaves. And widely regarded as one of the most important and influential American stand-up comics *OF ALL TIME,* and not to mention he dubbed by the newspaper to be *"the Dean of Counter culture comedians".*
The guy said a lot of facts and yet was funny about it at the same time, told it like it is and wasn't afraid to speak his own mind and was a true comedic legend.
Keep the George Carlin please you'll get to know him better as a comedian and of his material and where he's coming from and he doesn't hold back and he tells it like it is and he wasn't afraid of expressing himself. If some of this gets didn't make you laugh you would make you think.

If you ever want to get past that "I shouldn't even ask that question" point and have a friendly examination of these topics or even just a conversation, just give me a shout. You seem to be interested in the topic and let's put it this way: If your scrutiny makes your belief stronger, God wouldn't mind. And if your belief doesn't hold up to scrutiny, there is no God to worry about...

I am from a heavily Catholic country (Ireland), thankfully not heavy anymore. I wouldn't say I'm an Atheist but rather Agnostic, my parents are Catholic though but not heavy, they ain't the type to browbeat others about what's right or wrong and they only go to church when it's a funeral or baptism. My parents remember a time when the church had more control in the state, Priests and Nuns were their school teachers and were extremely harsh, even though my parents are Catholic even they don't want a religious state for the next generation as they already lived through that and agree that a secular state is better than a religious one. In fact the vast majority of old Catholics I speak to on the subject of theocracy have said they don't want to return to that, the older generations remember when they were beat in school and when their children were torn from them and put up for adoption simply because the parents had a child out of wedlock.
