I'm a grown ass man and not particularly emotional, but when I see this girl sing this song it takes everything I have to keep from crying.
If you want to feel the opposite, look up Sugarland "Sex On Fire", it's a black and white video. It's hot, and yes I am a woman...and it's hot. Lol
@@NoPitBullLeftBehind
Wow! No joke, that is amazing. She looked side-eye in the camera and I subconsciously sat up straighter.
And that little giggle at the end?! Priceless
Thanks for the tip
@@ASeventhSign You're welcome. She can break your heart, make you laugh, and uhh...sing Sex On Fire and make you feel all the feels. One video that always kind of makes me laugh is Jennifer Nettles and Ben Harper singing "I'm on Fire" from the Kennedy Center Honors for Bruce Springsteen. He looks visually nervous with how intense she is looking at him, hell I think anyone would be. We all wish someone would look at us like that. Lol
@@ASeventhSign ruclips.net/video/D_cYltkBrW0/видео.htmlsi=qEQL-l1QorPsPg14
yep
She is the other woman. At the end she realizes she is being used and tell him to STAY home.
When she performed this at the CMAs, she actually did cry. Heart wrenching.
I’ve heard this song a million times and it still breaks me.
Jennifer Nettles is considered country but she has a great bluesy voice.
You guys have NO idea how happy I am that you're doing this song!! I haven't watched yet but... so many other reactor's have misunderstood this song SOOOO here goes.... Jennifer Nettles (lead singer) wrote this song from the "other woman's" perspective. Her husband in real life had been cheating on her and she wrote this show how his actions had an impact on more than just her.... The tears in this video are 100% real and Christian (guitarist and the other half of Sugarland) told the director to keep filming when he suggested they stop filming to let her get herself together. he said this was real and raw and was important for people to see the real emotion and pain to get the message across.... LOVE Sugarland and this song! Kudos and thanks for this one guys!!
He was not cheating on her. She wrote this after hearing Reba's "whoever's in New England". She was going thru a divorce though.
@@jtd5849 Ummm, NOPE.... he was cheating on her and at the time this video was being filmed, she was in the middle of divorcing him.... that's where her tears are coming from. There are plenty of articles where she and Christian both talk about it and about how they decided to keep filming even though she was crying and in so much pain! Peace and light to you... :)
@@michaelgilbert197 Jennifer Nettles has said her ex was not cheating, but they were going through a divorce. Yes, the rest about the filming is true, and she was overcome with emotion. She said she wrote it after hearing Reba’s song, and wanted to write from the other woman’s perspective.
Her husband never cheated on her IRL. She and Todd did divorce around this time but it was due to distance and falling a part.
@@michaelgilbert197 nope JTD is right she told story about this video...she was going through divorce and the feelings are real she wouldnt let them cut out anything out and she wanted it as raw as possible
She was really breaking down for real and producers wanted her to record again but the guitarist refused to let them put her through it again. Ps the last verse IS her saying stay at home don't come find me. There is a whole story behind her band too!!!
*Jennifer Nettles* has a voice that's so captivating. The song is about a woman being promised a great life after the man tells her that he'll be leaving his wife for her soon. As the song unfolds she begins to realize it's all a lie and if he really wanted to be with he would have been true to his, she also thinks about if he's slippin' out on his marriage, he'll do the same thing to her. So to end she tells him to stay with his wife that he wasn't planning on leaving. And even though it she knows it be wrong to break up a marriage with a man that's confused and trying to see if he should stay or go. A sad story of someone being put in a position that they never wanted to be in the first place. And Kristen (He's the Duo part of Sugarland) was getting little upset, because he thinks of Jennifer as a sister and they were making cry on set ( so it was like nobody messes with my little sister like that), but video wise it all worked out. Well with that being said on to some other great tunes by *Sugarland : Stuck Like Glue, Settlin', Something More, Baby Girl, Everyday America, Tonight and Joey.* The subject isn't so risque as *Stay* but just as good. Love Peace and Happiness Y'all !!
Bruh you ain't never iied
Excellent synopsis!
You forgot Shhh....it happens. HA
Ummm, even tho the song is from the side pieces pov, Jennifer was going thru a divorce after finding out her husband was cheating on her. The tears were real, they had to stop filming a few times because she’d break down n the guy on the guitar told her she didn’t have to keep going but she wanted to power thru.
You'll be surprised just how soulful, much of country music actually is.
Nice choice. Jennifer Nettles pulls on the heartstrings with “Stay”
Her voice is incredible, but that guitar is perfect for the song too.
Take a look at Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss "Whiskey Lullabye."
Ricky Schroeder is so good in that video too….such an Amazing song and video.
●She (as the"other woman"), went from begging him to stay, to getting stronger, saying next time she (his wife) begs him to stay, that he *stay..* Jennifer in reality, was the wife, but sang it from the other woman's perspective. Brave + incredible-Jennifer Nettles=🔥🔥*
Jennifer has one of the most compelling voices you ever want to hear. If you hear a song by Jennifer you never forget it. It's my understanding that this was done in one take. The producer wanted her to do it again and the guitarist said no. This is all that she's going to sing.
Try Martina McBride- "Concrete Angel", or "Independence Day", or Broken Wings", or give Patry Cline a listen-"Crazy", or "I Fall To Pieces", or "Walking After Midnight", or "She's Got You", to start' country music is full of female artists with beautiful voices, and the men have to sing pretty good, too. There's so many it's hard to pick just a couple.
Yes! Patsy Cline!
Yes to all of these!
concrete Angel will pull your heart out through your chest
Concrete Angel should be watched with tissues.
“ How Great Thou Art” Carrie Underwood featuring Vince Gill it’s the awards show around 9 or 10 years ago
I had heard her band member playing the guitar while she sang refused to allow her to do a retake on her singing part. He didn’t want her to suffer like that again.
When she recorded this video she was actually going through her own divorce and the emotion translated into a very emotional and heartfelt performance. If I’m not mistaken she wrote the song putting herself in the shoes of the “other woman” to illustrate how much it hurts to be lied to and, as the bridge and last chorus shows, how empowering it is when you’ve had enough and are ready to move on and live your own life. Great reaction guys!
I’m born and raised in Nashville and this one time I was in the Minneapolis airport heading to Nashville and guess who is sitting across from me? Yup! Jennifer Nettles. #nashvilleunicorn
She was the wife who was cheated on, in reality. So, she writes a heart wrenching song from the point of view of the side chick. Brilliant.
Wrong
@@jayslack41 no, he is right
Jennifer has said in interviews that their divorce was not due to Todd cheating on her. It's such a compelling symmetry with this song, many people make that mistake. But look it up. Jennifer says he didn't cheat. That's not the reason they divorced.
There is an article that talks about this. She wanted to do a song of betrayal, but the other side of it. Way to many people place the blame on the other woman. Some cases , they do know and it's not ok. But, at the end of the day the other woman doesn't owe the wife anything, the husband is the one that made vows.
@@crystalsaiz5248 Right! It's not hard to find the real backstory. I guess people just love to create their own little myths.
She was crying. What a powerful song though. Wow!! That was so good. Dont know what else to say. So emotionally draining
What a voice. Jennifer Nettles is amazing. About the lyrics, thank you God that my husband has always chosen me and stayed since we met. He has always chosen home.
This song was very personal to her own experience ..instead of singing from perspective of wronged wife .. she sang from the mistress. Powerful
It must have been so hard to sing as the other woman when she was actually the wife.
@@beckysmuck8771 Yes it had to be hard since she was cheated on and then sings a song as the mistress. The producers wanted a retake but they decided to go with this emotional reaction.
@@glennallen239 just curious where do you get your information from
You are full of it..Look it up.Smh
@@glennallen239 you are just talking out your ass. The song was inspired by a Reba Macentire song and she specifically stated it wasn't from a personal experience. She wanted to flip the narrative from the cheating woman's perspective.
jennifer nettles had real tears in this video she was going through a divorce but she wrote this from the other womans perspective
Not true she wrote the song in 2003 and divorced in 2007
Yes, she's portraying the side piece in this song. She gets the strength to tell him to "stay" home at the end of the song. Please do Reba McEntire for Female Friday! Lots of good songs, but try "Fancy" or "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia".
Man she's got tears in her eyes singing this Jennifer Nettles with something else she's actually got tears singing this song
A couple of years ago they made a movie about Dolly Parton called "The Coat Of Many Colors" and this woman played Dolly's mama
try baby girl from Sugarland it was their first hit and first released song I believe my favorite love the message to the parents!
this one is sad and hard to watch! God Bless everyone 🙏❤
If I remember correctly, she was the wife in this situation and she wrote the song from that perspective but changed it so that it would be more interesting. Jennifer Nettles is the name of the lead singer. They have a lot of great songs (the deep cuts are better than most of the singles, for me) but "Baby Girl" is probably one of their more popular songs, as well as "Stuck Like Glue," which is a fun one.
For female country artists, I would suggest;
1- Faith Hill; "It matters to me", "A man's home is a castle", "Take me as I am".
2-Trisha Yearwood; "Georgia Rain", "down on my knees", "I would have loved you anyway", "The Song remembers when".
3-Lorrie Morgan; "Something in Red", "Picture of me", "if you came back from heaven", "Good as I was to you", "Autumn's not that cold".
4- Martina Mcbride; "Concrete angel", "Independence Day", "God's Will", "Broken Wing", "In my daughter's eyes", "I'm gonna love you through it". 🤠
And The Chicks
I can't listen to Concrete Angel without falling apart in tears
5 - Chrystal Gayle "Don't make my brown eyes blue", "Talking in your sleep"
6 - Nancy Griffith "Deadwood South Dakota"
I agree with Trisha down on my knees but also paint myself into corners is another great one!
Great song! Jennifer Nettles has an amazing voice! You can't help it u just cry when you hear her sing this! You feel it! Thanks for all the great reactions! You guys are killin' it! ✌❤🙂
This song was done when she was going through a really bad divorce. With this song she turns the table and sings as the mistress. Jennifer Nettles voice is so country. She’s perfect for country.
If you think Jennifer’s voice is strong in “Stay”, watch the video of her singing the Christmas song “O Holy Night”. It will blow you away! If it doesn’t give you chills or goosebumps, you might want to check your pulse.
This! Her version of “O Holy Night” is absolute perfection.
Jennifer Nettles and Bon Jovi did a song together Who says you can’t go home. You should check that out. One of my favorites
YES!! that song is awesome!! Good suggestion!!
Yes, she’s the other woman and then she wises up and builds up the strength to tell him to Stay at Home. Country music is full of story songs. Please don’t hold it against the artist.
Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush are Sugarland.
Don’t forget Reba McEntire for female Friday please.
In many ways, country music is blues with a twang. They both tell stories of heartache.
Statement not true
Reba had the other woman song too.. with duet.
Wrong she was not the other woman, she was the wife the husband cheated on. The first part of the song was thru the other woman's eyes. Then the last part was for her. Look up the interview she gave about it.
@@harolddorsey9179 I know... I just said it was an "other woman" song.
This was life, this song almost didnt happen. Her Partner wanted to stop it because they needed to stop several times so she could compose herself. The tears were real no acting there and a beautiful song from the heart! Real country music!!
This has to be personal. What a beautiful song. She felt this. Wow. Must watch more of this group.
Go and watch her sing at the Kennedy Center Honors. She is well regarded and multifaceted.
To make even more of a point, this is acoustic, just a guitar done by her partner of the duo, no other instruments. This is the power of the best Country songs, to make the listener step in and live the words along with the singer. 25 cents by the Wilkinsons is also a strong one to listen to
One of country musics powerhouse voices! Great song, such raw emotion!
You gotta react to Martina McBride’s “Independence Day”! Maybe save that one for the Female Friday just before July 4th?????
1 thing people need to realize a lot of the time "the other woman" doesn't know she's the other woman, and it can be months sometimes longer before they find out and feelings develop and it's not so easy to just turn those off. Just saying "the other woman" is not always evil or at fault, sometimes they just make a mistake and step off with the wrong guy who's good at keeping a double life. Its hard to judge people when you don't know what the circumstance is.
You would love Martina McBride, first one I suggest is God's Will. A beautiful song that inspires and brings a tear to the eye.
I love the end when she stands up for herself, and sends him packing
Jennifer Nettles is an amazing vocalist! She's also a great actress and played Dolly Parton's mother in the true story of Dolly's life as a child called Coat of Many Colors! Love y'all's reaction 💜🙏
Wikipedia:According to Nettles, "Stay" was inspired by Reba McEntire's 1986 single "Whoever's in New England", a ballad in which a wife addresses her unfaithful husband.[1] After hearing the song, Nettles thought that it would be an original approach to take the perspective of the "other woman" (i.e., the mistress), as very few country songs had ever done so.[1][3] Once she decided to take that perspective, the song "practically wrote itself".[1] The melody is similar to the Lonestar song "I'm Already There."
This performance certainly drained her. Written about her breakup with her husband. He was cheating. This is from the perspective of the other woman. She finally got the strength to stand up to him.
She was going thru a divorce but not because he cheated, that's a common misconception. After hearing Reba's song " Whoever's in New England" she wanted to look at it from the "other woman's" point of view.
@@jtd5849 MY WORD.... Look it up. It's NO SECRET.... Her husband was cheating, she wrote this from the other woman's perspective. Her tears were real as she was divorcing him at the time....

@@michaelgilbert197 , yes divorce was real, tears were real but i've seen the interview where she talks about this being in response to Reba"s song, not her marriage.
Not sure how you stumbled on this one but Jennifer Nettles can sing her behind off and it's emotional af. Enjoy
Still hoping you guys choose Haley Reinhart With PMJ doing Creep.
Haley so so unique. Loved her on American Idol, but was mad when she beat out my favorite that year to take 3rd. :)
"Still hoping you guys choose Haley Reinhart With PMJ doing Creep. "
YES PLEASE!!!!!!
Also, PMJ "Dream On" is great, and since they like rap, the PMJ cover of "Ice Ice Baby" is hilarious!
Jennifer nettles is a country singer icon...amazing voice and her voice is very distinctive
I love how you feel her pain. I know the song and know I will cry ugly while singing it. Thank You for sharing your emotional reaction.
There’s a little backstory to this one. She was going thru it (divorce, cheating, etc) when they recorded this video and they had to stop several times because she was struggling so much. What you see is real af and no matter how many times I see it it always hurts. 🙁
After 4 takes the guitar player (a life long friend) told the producer that that was it. And took Jennifer out of the studio. The emotion and tears were real.
@@kevenbridges9433❤️
Not true... song was written in 2003 she divorced in 2007
Kim you don't know what you are talking about. Had nothing to do with her divorce as the song was written before that even happened. The song was inspired by a Reba Macentire song and she flipped the script from the cheating woman's perspective. She specifically said it wasn't from personal experience. Geez people will make up anything to sound like they are relevant.
@@chickenjo23 Yep! I don't remember exact quotes but I do remember her/them saying that it was just performance. Granted, it's a a VERY good performance...but a performance nonetheless.
dont worry about tearing up i always do when this song
Me too
Her voice is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I turn to mush whenever I hear this song!😪
More for female Friday. Want a banger? Try Melissa Etheridge "Bring Me Some Water" or "I'm the Only One". Want something a little more funky try Rickie Lee Jones "Youngblood"
What I love about this song is with all the songs from the wife’s perspective or the mistress’s perspective, there is never any repercussion or blame on the cheating man. I love that by the end of the song, she gets her gumption back and dumps his wandering butt…telling him to keep his married rear end home and don’t come back to her. That doesn’t Leah’s happen in songs like this. You go girl!
Her voice is out of this world god but the pain she felt in this song is real
FINALLY some Jennifer Nettles with her best performance in their many songs. Thank you for this one. An exceptional talent.
Jennifer Nettles is an AWESOME VOCALIST FROM Georgia. And this is such an EMOITONAL Song
OMG!!! This is my first time hearing Sugarland. Jennifer Nettles obviously has a connection to this song and some event in her life that she has not moved past. It may have been painful to her, but it make for a performance that was genuine and totally amazing. I have to look into more music by Sugarland!
Also, you need to react to Girl Crush by Little Big Town, its a great female vocal song
8:10 Rob doesn’t put many people at the top unless he REALLY means it. I’m so glad he appreciates her!!!
Jennifer Nettles has the voice of an angel. One of the most underrated female vocalists of our time. You should listen to some of her gospel music.
Even after all these years I still deeply feel this song. Maybe it's because I know how she feels being cheated on, maybe it's because of her amazing voice either way is a master piece
Do Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley featuring Allison Kraus. Do the video. Trust me.
Like this comment, please.
Just put it on the list!
5 hankie Amber warning! Lol!
Boomer Sooner!.... And that Country twang ..is An American accent...uniquely American... and it's beautiful... all of our many accents that makes up the U.S and isn't it awesome...embrace the beauty of voices..what a diverse pallet to color our hearts with sound...
Jennifer Nettles is singing her heart out and her vocals is amazing on this song and you feel her heartbreak and emotions and pain.Every time I hear this song and see the music video I can't help but feel sorry for Jennifer Nettles.
One guitar and one beautiful voice, if this doesn't rip your heart out, you can feel the pain. I can't help but tear up watching this video. Jennifer Nettles, amazing
She was going through a divorce while recording this song. Her husband was the one cheating on her, so, she wrote about the other woman's point of view. When you see her crying, she's really crying. Her guitarist, Kristian told to them keep rolling when she was crying, because she couldn't get through the song without breaking down. He had had enough of seeing her suffer. They filled in the song after they were done recording.
She really does have one of the best voices
Jennifer Nettles is an amazing, emotive singer. Sugarland has a bunch of great songs.
Best voice in country music, she can sing anything.
Another great choice. Thank you. For Femalr Friday you might also consider Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good (live), Shania Twain - Man, I feel like A Woman (official video) and Bonnie Raitt. Love what you do. Rock on!
More Sugarland please. My daughter's wedding song, eleven years ago was "Stuck Like Glue." Any Sugarland would be amazing, but that one would be very special
WOW! I must have been slipping part of the time last year because I MISSED this reaction until now. Thank you as always - this is a great song!
Listen to her (Jennifer Nettles) sing “O Holy night”. And she was a customer of mine at my old job and she is a sweet heart in person. Seriously super nice. Her voice is amazing.
I see plenty of people have given you the backstory. Since this was a pretty emotional song, I'm going to suggest that you watch their song Stuck Like Glue, the official video. Totally different type of song and I think you'll get a kick out of it.
Definitely stuck like glue, see her other side
Was gonna suggest so ill just add my heck yeah gotta do stuck like glue lolol
I love them so much. Jennifer is amazing! I got to meet and chat with Kristian at the Opry a few years ago and he was so nice!
I'm definitely not a country fan but WOW! What a voice, made my eyes water!
you never know, you might be after this one...
Your loss.
Just found you tonight. Enjoyed your reaction to Fancy. I love this song. Always makes me cry!!
Jennifer Nettles is one of those country singers that has the "IT" factor. She not only has a voice that will make you cry like this song but she has an uplifting voice that will make feel great on happier tunes with this amazing duo! I hope you do more Sugarland because you will not be disappointed at all!
Jennifer Nettles is my absolute favorite female singer! You should listen the Sugarland’s live version of “Sex on Fire!” Powerful!
The live version of stay is just as good. Best live vocal ive heard
Live in Lexington, KY
Jennifer grew up in the county by mine. She sang at 4H and FFA banquets when I was in high school. You could tell 30 years ago that her voice was special. It’s what I compare voices I hear now.
I remember the first time I saw this video. I wanted to reach through the screen and give her a hug!
Stuck Like Glue is a fun song by Sugarland that is less intense, but fun.
Another fun song that I think you'd enjoy the video for is Baby Likes to Rock It by the Tractors. ruclips.net/video/i0M3LS9n7Ns/видео.html
Both of these are fun songs that were country hits.
Sugarland is Jennifer Nettles (singer) and Kristian Bush (guitarist). This was recorded while she was going through a divorce resulting from her husband cheating. Yet she sang it so well from the other woman’s perspective. SO much talent. You should watch their video for the song “Unlove You”. Side note, Kristian was once the guitarist for Annie Lennox, definitely NOT country. There were originally 3 members to Sugarland on their first album.
He's just pouring our heart into that song you can see it in her face
Jennifer Nettles has such an amazing voice. I love her work. So glad you checked this one out. Absolutely love your reaction top this. Compelling is exactly the right word. She has you from the first note.
Ideas for female Friday.
Iris DeMent: let the mystery be.
Natalie Merchant: carnival ,beloved wife or wonder🙂
The song was not written about her or her own life experience. My understand of the situation is that they were singing the song over and over, just her and the guitar and they had done a lot of takes and it was getting late and just singing the song was taking an emotional toll on her. They decided to do one more take and she finally broke down and that is what you see in the video.
She does have an amazingly strong voice.
Yes, in the song, she would be the "other" woman, and the male in the song is apparently stringing her along, telling her that someday he will leave (assuming) his wife and be with her full time, but she is now realizing that he is just lying to her and just using her as his permanent side chick. So in the last verse she finally realizes the nature of this toxic relationship and tells him to just stay with his wife because she is moving on to find someone she doesn't need to share.
She wows!💖I love that song, and yes, she’s a side piece, and I felt it was like it was part of her story to find out that she was worthy to be more than just a side piece.
I just now stumbled onto this which is a little late. That said, it is all about her eyes! Her eyes sell the song here! Beautiful!
Martina McBride.. Concrete Angel.. it's country
@Angela Boucher definitely...
Reba McEntire’s Fancy is an ABSOLUTE must react to song/video. If you want quintessential Country vocals, look no further than Reba!
Her name is Jennifer Nettles. She also does acting and and is in a couple of Dolly Parton Christmas Movies. Coat of many colors.
Oh I have been busy at vet offices today so glad I’m home now to hang out of Female Friday wooohoooo KEEP ROCKIN …… this is such a awesome video …. Those treats are real you can feel the pain in the song ….
Jay, you stopped it at the ABSOLUTE WORST TIME when she finally did the flip in the lyrics telling him to STAY with his wife. (BTW, when I realized she was his mistress, I STOPPED feeling sorry for her - having been IN that situation! 😪)
I think she was the married woman but she wrote this song from the other women's perspective to show her husband how his actions hurt everyone involved.
She was going thru a hard time in her own relationship when she recorded this song. No this is not her own experience but she was able to tap into her own emotions she was having at that time. It surely shows. Great job guys
Stuck like glue by Sugarland… fun song!! It has more of a pop feel to it though.
Female Friday. Little Big Town is a female and male group. One of the female lead songs... Little White Church. Great song.
Here’s a great idea for female Friday JONI MITCHEL .. HELP ME .. voice of an angel !
