  • Venice, Los Angeles - January 18, 2024. A significant joint operation was conducted by the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. on Rose Avenue in Venice to address the homeless encampment issue. The initiative is part of the city's ongoing efforts to manage homelessness and maintain public sanitation.
In preparation for the cleanup, the city had earlier posted notices, alerting residents of the upcoming activity and requesting the removal of personal belongings from the area. These notices stipulated that any items left behind would be removed by city workers.
The unhoused individuals were given a 15-minute window by Los Angeles Sanitation to relocate their possessions before the cleanup. Police officers assisted in moving people away from the cleaning zones, and unclaimed items were cleared by sanitation workers.
The cleanup operation saw coordinated efforts between two waste management units: the Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. The teams, identifiable by their yellow and orange vests respectively, focused on segregating hazardous materials from non-hazardous waste, ensuring a thorough cleaning process.
The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) provided outreach services to the homeless during the operation.
Los Angeles Police Officers ensured the safety and compliance of all parties, particularly the homeless community. They focused on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards and ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.
Despite the implementation of Ordinance 41.18, which restricts certain activities in public spaces, no citations were issued during the cleanup. This operation is a part of Los Angeles' larger strategy to address homelessness, highlighting the city's commitment to both immediate and long-term solutions, focusing on the root causes of homelessness and providing essential resources to those in need

Anyone, tell me I'm wrong! The city allows the homeless to take over the sidewalk, prevent the public from using the sidewalk and turn the sidewalk into a substation for a trash landfill. The city, on a weekly basis, notify the homeless the city will arrive at a specified time and clean up after them. Not only does the city cleanup after them, the city provides police protection for the crew so they can safely cleanup after the homeless. The homeless feel the need to verbally abuse all involved in cleaning up after them, because they are inconvenienced. Finally, the city pressure washes the sidewalk, so the homeless can have a clean sidewalk to setup camp and collect new trash. I'm thinking the sidewalks have not dried out before the homeless return. Am I mistaken believing this is government's plan for the homeless and these actions of weekly cleanings will continue for the future with no end in sight? Please, criticize me, tell me I don't understand, tell me I'm clueless, but please give me the solution for the issue! 👍😎✌

2:35 is enough proof that they need to clean up the sidewalk. Dude almost ate it cause of all the trash on the floor.

So much stuff, if it wasn't cleaned weekly. You can just imagine all the stuff that would quickly get bigger and bigger. Public sidewalk must be kept clean for the safety of the public and the homeless.

This will never end because people occupying this area know they can get back as soon as cleanup crew leaves. They literally wait across the street and then move right back.

There's got to be an 'intertwining' of addiction and hoarding in the synaptic pathways of these individuals. The evidence is pretty obvious you can't have one without the other.

Check back in 6 months, I guarantee it's not the same people. They aren't healthy and they are addicts. It's too grueling and a total pain in the ass for unhealthy addicts to try and keep up with this relentless daily cleanup effort and keep moving all their crap, which ends up getting thrown away anyway. The city is on a mission.
I predict Santa Monica in the next 2 years will completely restored to how it was...a super clean city just like Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Belair and Calabasas.

They will in certain zones. L.A. is so big, it's too hard to police. If enough people complain to their district office, only then will the city do something. We had the same problem in my neighborhood for like 10 years. We constantly complained, mainly because it was a bum zone across the street from an elementary school and Church. Once parents threatened lawsuits, the city cleaned house one time, posted large signs around prohibiting this behavior or else. No tents or RV's since. LAPD is so understaffed and so busy, it usually takes them 45 mins. to an hour to show up for a violence type of call, unless you live north of Sunset Blvd. It's a complex mess...
