Christ, I thought my Alfa was a bastard to work on. Imagine working on that mess in the car! Keep up the good work. This stuff is priceless to fellow owners.

Good job for keeping those old fiats alive!
I'm also currently enjoying some italian engine gymnastics by doing an engine replacement for Fiat coupe 1.8. The replacement engine is from newer Stilo, so almost everything needs to be transferred from the original engine. What a mess.
    😂

Wow, nothing came easy Neil, as good as an hour at the gym! This was great to watch, as you said so much bolted on to this little unit, some of it looked over engineered like the mount for the coil pack, thanks for sharing.

It's just old tec. Eg steel mounts all over it, newer engines are all cast alloy so several things can bolt to 1 mount.

Amazing patience, it will be all worthwhile once it's completed, hopefully, the head gets sorted without too many snags.

Sometimes you need a little tenacity working on those older Fiats. My suspicion is that Fiat owners are not always best at maintaining their vehicles- Nice job!

Good luck with alternative engine, Neil. Pity the original beyond repair. I once had an Alfasud Sprint Veloce 1.5 which had a rebuild by a West Midlands engine builder . When I had it rebuilt , they reported one cylinder ( No.3 ) was badly scored due to a gidgeon pin working loose. Luckily they were able to sleeve the bore . Gt bodywork looks good .

Would the 5 cylinder that was in a load of Fiat's including the Coupe fit in the Punto? That would be one wild little hot hatch.

Not worth the work or the HP.... unless you Turbo it 🙂

The Mk2 Punto got a revvy 1.8 16v in the HGT model instead of the Turbo….

hey Neil, love your work! i'm thinking of buying a 2.2 Brera but I'm worried about the availability of parts like injectors. Do you think parts availability for older Alfas is a problem?

Looks like a ponced up version of the same old engine they used in the 1969 Fiat 128.
