1:12 Oh hey, it's the city of Belfort! I lived there for a couple years and was in touch with the Yellow Vests you see here. Many of them were frenzied conspiracy theorists, but overall they were a nice bunch. I took a yellow vest myself too, two times. Belfort is a small city, but it's highly regarded in France as a landmark of stubborness and resistance. Against the Prussians in 1870, Belfort resisted under heavy siege and refused to surrender for 103 days, even when its defences were heavily compromised and the city was in ruins from artillery shelling. It held up until an armistice was signed by the regime. For this reason, the invading Prussians allowed the leading officer, Denfert-Rochereau and his men, to leave the city with their arms. A giant lion carved out of red sandstone tops over the city, in a cliff mounted by fortifications. It was designed by Bartholdi, the same bloke who designed the Statue of Liberty. A smaller replica of the lion sits in the middle of a roundabount in Paris, at the Place Denfert-Rochereau. It has a history of resistance and maquis against the occupational forces of the Nazi regime, it was a city with highly strategical industrial sites, and with remarkably strong unions of workers. During the pandemic, the mayor of the city was against the shutdown of businesses, and against all regulation, stood to make them reopen. It was not until centralised powers took action that the situation was "normalized". It's a city of rough blokes, warm and welcoming, but angry, resentful and not very educated people. A small remain of the indomitable stubborn, stupid, valliant, humanistic and idealistic French spirit. It has good reasons to be proud, even if that pride is a shade of its former self, and we, as French men and women, should maybe re-learn from this.
I went to France a couple of months ago and absolutely loved Paris and the people there. But I gotta agree that you _absolutely shouldn't mess around with the French_ .

It has good reasons to be proud, even if that pride is a shade of its former self, and we, as French men and women, should maybe re-learn from this.
so bascially a squidward patrick combo with a side of plankton
That kind of explains why the yellow vests were a xenophobic movement in Canada
