As opposed to the English constitution which is unwritten and places very few barriers in the way of parliament or the monarchy. Or the american constitution which had to have the provisions for slavery amended out of it and has fucked its entire society with a section about arming a militia that no longer exists for a style of warfare that is no longer effective in the face of modern mechanized militaries, and is so hard to update that it's Supreme Court is capable of granting rights to and stripping them away from millions of their citizens. Better a new constitution every year than one that's unsuited for the political context of its time.

Armed citizens terrify even modern governments, because unlike what you seem to be implying, low intensity insurgent warfare is extremely effective against modern mechanized militaries. It's the definition of assymetric warfare, whereupon one group (the underdogs) with inferior ressources but high motivation and number can, over time, overwhelm a technologically more advanced opponent through attrition and constant attacks on supply lines.
Any government would have a much easier time establishing a totalitarian dictatorship in an european state (which is kind of already happening in Britain right now) than in a nation where everyone and their sister is packing.

As french guy, I'm left in dismay that the May 1968 riots wasn't mentioned. Literally every single protest that came after this one tried to rival it. The reasons are quiet simple : 7 millions of protesters in the streets (with a population around 50 millions at the time which means 14% of the population was protesting), General De Gaulle stepping down and the dissolution of the National Assembly. As far as I know, only the Yellow Jackets (2018-2019) have reached the same might.

1:12 Oh hey, it's the city of Belfort! I lived there for a couple years and was in touch with the Yellow Vests you see here. Many of them were frenzied conspiracy theorists, but overall they were a nice bunch. I took a yellow vest myself too, two times.
Belfort is a small city, but it's highly regarded in France as a landmark of stubborness and resistance. Against the Prussians in 1870, Belfort resisted under heavy siege and refused to surrender for 103 days, even when its defences were heavily compromised and the city was in ruins from artillery shelling. It held up until an armistice was signed by the regime. For this reason, the invading Prussians allowed the leading officer, Denfert-Rochereau and his men, to leave the city with their arms. A giant lion carved out of red sandstone tops over the city, in a cliff mounted by fortifications. It was designed by Bartholdi, the same bloke who designed the Statue of Liberty. A smaller replica of the lion sits in the middle of a roundabount in Paris, at the Place Denfert-Rochereau.
It has a history of resistance and maquis against the occupational forces of the Nazi regime, it was a city with highly strategical industrial sites, and with remarkably strong unions of workers. During the pandemic, the mayor of the city was against the shutdown of businesses, and against all regulation, stood to make them reopen. It was not until centralised powers took action that the situation was "normalized".
It's a city of rough blokes, warm and welcoming, but angry, resentful and not very educated people. A small remain of the indomitable stubborn, stupid, valliant, humanistic and idealistic French spirit. It has good reasons to be proud, even if that pride is a shade of its former self, and we, as French men and women, should maybe re-learn from this.

If you wonder why riots are so common, just know that the French president said that video games are the reason the recent riot started and didn't talk at all about cops' brutality. I think it tells you everything you need to know.

Tbf the Nahel protest really started with one event of a young man breaking the law and gotten shot for it, but then looters got involved violence escalated on both sides and the true victim were the bystander that didnt ask for this crap either way.
Didnt macron said stuff like adblocks were domestic terrorism or smt, that the french people were ingrates because they still protested for better life standarts despite his few way to cheap gifts he was doing semi regularly during Covid and shortly after as if it ever dealt with the actual problem, or him that went out of the country every single damn time there was a serious protest, to the point where it was Dutch people who went to him to tell him he s*cks, or his time in China where he was a simp of the chinese and they respected him so little they quite litteraly didnt give a sh*t about what he said, or his time in Africa where he said something racist and the local guy casually told him "screw you"
Truly we have a wonderfull president that cares about his country instead of his wallet

idea proposal (i know u already did something similar but idc):
    Latin American history be like
    >Chadio Hernando Basado is born in a middle class family
    >He dreams with liberty for his nation so he assembles an army of 900 armed with machetes and shovels
    >His army is defeated by the spanish due to their modern army and superior numbers
    >He flees to a Caribbean island, where he assembles a new army and tries again
    >He fails
    >He tries again
    >He fails
    >He tries again
    >mfw we capture a spanish fortress, obtaining a lot of weapons and gunpowder
    >The spanish send over General Virginco de la Couckia with an army of 30 thousand to defeat Chadio
    >Chadio's army defeats the spanish while being outnumbered 10 to 1, capturing 20 thousand prisoners and a lot of weapons
    >He executes all the prisoners
    >He proclaims the independence of his nation and dies as a hero at the very much old age of 39
    >Miguel de la Virginiola is elected as president
    >No one likes him and the country splits in a hundred micro states ruled by warlords and small bands
    >mfw my country becomes a 3rd world nation, after only existing for 10 years
    >American intervention
    >Banana republic
    >Civil war causes hundreds of thousands of deaths
    >A man by the name of Epicusio Chadolez wants to become president
    >He has good intentions, he isn't corrupt and wants to nationalize the resources of the nation
    >He is shot dead outside of his home
    >Civil war
    >American intervention
    >Banana republic
    >The two sides of the civil war finally meet an agreement after 70 years
    > Nothing changes and a new faction funded by drugs appears, commiting terrorist attacks and taking over small cities in the south
    >mfw 200 years of history of death, destruction, poverty and a banana republic

Yes, on average we have between 3 to 5 big strikes / protests per year. Now we're just unphased when it happens, it's just normal.
But pretty worth it considering it got us 5 weeks of paid vacation per year (minimum), a 35-hour work week, the 12th highest minimum wage in the world, free school, free healthcare, financial aids for renting appartments, buying school furnitures and for having kids.
