      In the event you need another worm-maker (or other large-ish complex metal item) you could attempt a lost-plastic cast. The printed plastic (might have to explore good polymers) geometry gets burned out of the mold prior to pouring molten metal.

      @@TWX1138 Sintering is a different process than I was thinking of, but that can be done too. You can cast sintered parts in a mold, or use a laser to fuse the powder into the product, layer by layer, in what is called "powder bed fusion." I was thinking of metal extrusion

    • @Dr.Fluffles
      @Dr.Fluffles 4 года назад +3

      @@BlackEpyon There's also Laser Powder Deposition, which shoots a tiny stream of powder into the path of the laser and builds up from there rather than using a powder bed. It can do a lot more than printing, too, and can use a wide range of alloys and ceramics, which is awesome, lol

      I read an article about building structures on other planets/moons and how it would be really expensive to send prefabricated building materials to be assembled planet side and that only so much could be sent in one trip. The idea that scientists were considering would be to send basically a 3D printer that would be attached to some scaffolding. Robots would dig a hole, that would be the foundation, into the planet/moon and would fill the 3D printer with the material it dug up. The 3D printer would melt the material into magma and use it to build a kind of glassy/cement igloo that would be the main structure that prefab parts would be assembled on. The idea is that I would save a lot of money by not needing to send walls everything the a structure needs to be built and that the robots could be automated to keep building the shells of structures even when nobody is on the base.
      I read that article a while ago so I don't know if it's still an idea they're still considering or if it's been scrapped.

    See what the effect is of burning the candle for various periods of time. Maybe, if you had a FLIR camera or something, you'd be able to see the change in temperature but you could at least record how long you had the candle burning and it could be reasonably assumed that burning it longer would result in a higher net temperature within the entire candle, albeit hotter at the top near the flame obviously.
