I bought it... I love it. My godness - I was the hater of ATO. Turned out that its the best boardgame I ever played in my 45yo life.
That is high praise! Hopefully more companies take note of what they've accomplished. May 16th can't come soon enough!
He's back!! Missed your content
Haha! It's good to be back!
Lots more ATO content please! This video was great and ATO is possibly the best game I’ve ever played. It would be great to have a channel focused on it instead of just jumping to the next hotness like most Kickstarter channels.
You've come to the right channel! I only have enough money and brain space for 1-2 games at a time anyway xD
Great review! Glad to see you back
Thank you!
Welcome back Jordan! Loved your review!
Hekayeah!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Heath!
Holy Cow! It's been forever. We've missed you!
It has! Thank you for the kind words :D
Welcome back, friend!! Good to see you!
Nice to see you as well! Glad to see you around!
So nice to see you back!! We missed you!!
Thank you!!! :'DDDDDD
welcome back, good to see your channel again 🙂
Thank you Jim! It's good to be back!
This was a joy to watch, thank you! I passed on ATO, but once the initial impressions started landing I did an all-in late pledge for Kingdoms Forlorn. I'm ready!
I’m happy you enjoyed it! I can’t help but glance at Kingdoms Forlorn too now… perhaps we’ll revisit that campaign soon!
Great to see you back. Please do a KDM vs ato comparison 👍
Great idea! It's only a matter of time. I'm hoping to get through the first three cycles before I attempt that one! I might comment on similarities/differences in my cycle by cycle reflections/breakdowns coming soon!
Killer review too 🤗 currently playing through Oathsworn, but cannot wait to dig into ATO
Thank you! I hope to make Cycle-specific reviews too as I slowly make my way through ATO in its entirety. I’ve heard great things about Oathsworn too!
Thanks for such a thoughtful review!
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Welcome back! Great review of a brilliant game.
Thank you Alastair! I’m glad you found it a fair assessment! We’ll revisit after the next few cycles.
Welcome back, Hope everything Is Fine and awesome.
Thank you!
They did not hold back :) C2 was even better than c1 in my opinion. I am at C3 now and loving it! The "Skyseer" from the mnestis Theater is aswell a must have (comes with unique gear!) and did you notice the hidden codes on several map tiles which reward you with Story and gear? (Aka side missions)
I did a lot of ATO Content on my second channel, its german though :D (Brettspielmeta)
Glad to have you back!
That's what I've been hearing so far! The Nietzschean is such a hardcore villain, he turned out a lot cooler than I thought he'd be! I think I only came cross 2-3 secret map tile codes so far in Cycle 1, but I know I must've missed many more of them. It's good to be back!
@@WaitYourTurn i liked the dialogues of the punished in c1 :)
@@Ceewalk2009PSN That was also my favorite highlight of C1 ;)))
@@Ceewalk2009PSN I also really enjoyed the overall arc of the Hermesian Pursuer (beginning to end). Terrifying
@@WaitYourTurn Yes! I want to know more about the end of the Hermesian Pursuer!
Awesome review, very well considered, and well spoken (good job with your Greek pronunciations!)
Thank you!!! You have no idea how much I appreciate that! (I didn’t even practice my Greek before this video!)
You’re back!
Hi Kurt! It’s been awhile! Thanks for sticking around ^^
This game is amazing. Just after playing half of cycle 1.
I decided to wait and lay it with a group since it has a lot of bookkeeping for 1 player
That sounds like a good plan, you should have a good grasp of the rules at that point to help a group game go smoothly. I couldn't imagine all the rule-lawyering if you had all gone in blind together!
Thanks for the great review. I have been on the fence about backing, primarily because I am drawn to more classic fantasy/sci-fi themes, but this review is a gentle push toward backing it.
I just hope there are improvements in the second printing to address complaints and they don't just send it for a second print without improving the weak points.
You're very welcome! That's also one of my concerns, their last update made it sound like they wanted to move ahead with a reprint without addressing some of the minor (albeit quite important) complaints. At the very least, I'm glad they've been collecting typos and other small errors via their Discord, so hopefully those make it into the reprint without it being an official 2nd edition perhaps?
Great to see you back mate. I really want to finish my first Campaign of KDM before starting this. I have cycles 1-3 and wondering if I should pick up cycles 4 & 5
I feel the opposite, after finishing the first cycle, I want to go back and start a new campaign of KDM 😁
From your cons I'd 100% recommend printing a rule summary such as the one that happens to be at the BGG files or the one from tgat guy Hermetic Order of Games (or something like that)
It helps ridiculously with phasing out the rulebook and phasing in a few sheets of quick refs
I’ve seen those! At this point, I’ve gotten most of it memorized but I wish I had those at the beginning!
He’s Alive!!!
Aeon Trespass is in a league of its own. So very good.
inb4 all games start using white boxes ;)
YOU ARE BACK!!! XD
Kind of, still trying to figure out a good filming schedule xD
Thanks
You're very welcome!
The money I put into the brilliant game that is ATO completely makes up for the waste and wait that was Tanares Adventures.
Funny you mention that, I'll have an opportunity to review Tanares Adventures rather soon...
Can we get a top most anticipated games from you anytime soon? I think it adds a lot of value because you come off as someone who does alot of research before purchasing
First off, thank you for the compliment! When it comes to Kickstarter, beggars can indeed be choosers! Secondly, my internal list of anticipated games hasn’t changed much - though the companies I’ve been watching have all been going through a wide range of challenges.
1. Sins of Herakles, has recently jumped to the forefront of my attention with their recent updates and their ongoing communication. Into the Unknown is happily the most “alive” company I follow.
2. Kingdom Death: Monster’s Gambler’s Chest is the next largest arrival that I jumped on in 2020. This is a big question mark which will probably arrive 2024. Hard to get too excited for this right now when the creator has had a lot of personal issues combined with opaque vagaries regarding the creative process. Nevertheless, exciting.
3. Sankokushin: Five Sacrifices, postponed indefinitely. One of the bigger disappointments this year, but I’m trying not to think about it. I’m glad they’re making the difficult but right decisions for themselves.
Hmm, looks like I really could’ve made a video about all this! I haven’t been searching for new games, looks like I’ve settled into a genre I like at this point.
Hey hey hey - how about Cycle II? Too much? Still great?
I hard paused after my first encounter with The Burden. I was hoping to get everything painted before I resumed but I've only gotten the minis primed at this point. Currently I'm ankle-deep in KDM's Gambler's Chest, so it may be awhile before I'm back in Sparta...
Some small thoughts though, the modularity and replayability in KDM cannot be beat by ATO. I do want to replay Cycle 1 at least once though to see if the branching narrative and diplomacy system can create a memorably different experience. Crafting system and innovation system is also unfortunately inferior to KDM's, I don't enjoy how resources and technology are "dispensed" whereas in KDM, you can either fall behind or get ahead of the curve based on how you play and plan.
@@WaitYourTurn thank God I do not have KDM 😀! I don't know if modularity in games is my thing (however I do love roguelikes), however after C1 of ATO I'm impressed as heck how all the mechanism works how well and deep the story is. Even "mortal resources dispensing" mechanism is not that bad to me as I rather focus on fighting specific primordial to get what I want. Very hard to me to make any comparisons to KDM as I have not played it at all. Probably the preference here is like a difference in taste - absolutely subjective and yet having solid reasoning for each pros and cons we feel.
We not only are creatures of habits but also creatures of tastes which makes a lot of comparisons so difficult and so hard to be intersubjective 😅 however it makes so interesting all the discussions when we criticise something loved by others. But to understand this validity of multimodality of different viewpoints and to have strong opinion while not being a partisan in any "war" against each other - that's another story, another level to achieve :D. Please keep coming back to us with your opinions! Even critical ones :D
Should we be expecting gameplay?!!!
Possibly! Once I get through Cycles 2-3 we can think of doing a playthrough!
@@WaitYourTurn that’s a lot of game play lol
Haha, ok. I’ll think of something
I didn’t actually cheat in this game.
Gloomhaven I cheated a lot in. This one I didn’t.
I had one amazing thing happened when I thought I had whipped and then hades saved me.
That was one of my cheats, I had never reached that much danger before and I was so curious what would happen if I drew *that* card. I narrowed down the deck to two cards to choose from and I chose the wrong card when the "right" card was the other one. Slight regret.
@@WaitYourTurn thanks for replying you have a great channel. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Glad you've enjoyed it!
Yeah the game is good and all, but why your miniatures are still unpainted ?
HAHA, I've been called out!! It's been a little too cold and wet to prime for awhile and between playing and painting, I chose the former this time. Soon!
I will have to cheat more in my games to add more replayability :O
Facts Elias 😆
