Melissa Yay you bought a new car! Now we don't have to worry about you having car trouble going to and from your tournaments. The crossbars should be fine with the foam pads and you have easy to reach tie down rails on each side. It's also got a lot more room in the back for all your gear. Perfect! Congratulations! Now I can watch your relaxing channel without tow trucks and police rescues. Fish on Lady! 🐟🐟👍👍
I have a full Yakima System for an outback with the load assist bar sitting around the garage collecting dust and spider webs. It’s yours if you want it.
Yes, great setup I’m so happy you can get back out there and compete. Good Luck tomorrow I know you will do great can’t wait to hear the results stay safe out there and Tight Lines! ❤
Congratulations, nice ride. If you use a old towel and close it in the top of the door and drape it over the top it wouldn't protect the car from scratches
Hi Melissa, I have been using either a good size pool towel or a yoga mat to place them between two bars, and then I place my Lynx on it and push up on my Highlander. It works very well. Congrats on your new car!
Thanks! Yeah I noticed I was tearing up the side of the roof rack I was using to pivot the kayak, so I am putting a shirt or a towel over that edge now for loading.
I have an Outback too and was worried about scratches. Now I just use the middle plastic section between the bars like the bar. Lift and just slide it around. Super easy. I also use the Thule ratchet ropes to anchor the nose and back, then just go around the two bars with cam straps. I run highway speeds with no problem with this setup. I have a 2020 so the roof rack has extra holes in the front and back to run the rope cams. Not sure why they closed them on the new models.
What do you tie the nose and tail to? The sales guy told me there were no frame loops on these (mine is a 2019) unless you screw the bolt loop into the bumper. I ended up getting those loops you shut in the hood for the nose tie-down to be safer.
Depending on the year of your Subaru, there should be a tow hook with your spare tire (looks like a large bolt with a circle at the end) that you can use as a tie down point. It screws into the front or rear bumper (use a flat screwdriver to pop the little cover off).
Yeah I have that screw in thing for the front and back bumpers, but the dealer said it wasn't supposed to be in there for long, so it would be another thing to set up and tear down each time, and it already takes me forever! So I am going with those little handles you slam in your hood with a loop sticking out for the front tie-down and it seems to work well.
There is an under frame tie off point with 3 holes in the center under the engine. I have the same model and use this for my bow line tie off point with S hooks.
Put a towel on the hatch. Put the kayak at an angle from the back. Lift the front on the towel then go to the back and lift and slide it right on. Very easy. I have an Outback also.
I'm very excited about that option! I've slept in my Saturn going cross country a few times years ago but when I loaded my Accord it was too packed to put a seat back, so I am looking forward to having that option again!
Sure, I have that fantasy of backing my trailer down the ramp and wet-launching my Hobie Outback or Pro Angler with MotorGuide and SpotLock, but what girl doesn’t wish for that? 🤣
I made a video loading a heavier kayak on a taller vehicle and it pretty much does the same thing you described here. You are really only lifting half the kayak at a time. However, I wanted to also share that I show how I tie down the kayak and I have yet to have any loft issues doing it this way. Good luck in you your fishing adventures! ruclips.net/video/5JRptkHiTzI/видео.html
On mine I have the kayak upside down so the wind lift is less cause some wind will push the nose down while the wind off the hood/windshield lift up, but I have drive hole just at the top of the windshield to relieve some of that upwind. I also use those hood latch loops you mentioned with some Perfect bungess. ruclips.net/video/4CNR2BRTxAQ/видео.htmlsi=dMurfuAW__aQNUsQ
if your worried about scratching your car when loading. You can use a bathroom rug on top of rack over lapping doors .
Good idea, thanks!

Fish on Lady! 🐟🐟👍👍
Hahaha thanks! I am very relieved to pivot from car drama to happy fishing reports! :)
Awesome! Wait till the snow shows up, you'll pass big jacked up trucks stuck in the ditches while you fly by. RT 23 is always like that in the winter
Thanks! I'm really happy with it!

Wow, thanks, I appreciate the offer! But I think that I can make this work with the factory bars. Thanks so much though!

Good idea!
You might be prudent to look at the Yakima Showboat 66 - it allows you to load from the rear and roll it up.
This Outback is easier to load than my Honda was just with the factory rack, so I am happy just with that for now. Thanks, though!

Melissa you made that look easy. Great video.
Thank you!

Yay! Looks great and safe. It probably greatly reduces travel stress as well! Have fun :)
Thanks! It is a huge relief!
Get yourself 2 x ratchet locking straps, ones that tension on themselves.
All the best with the Subaru, many happy mules ahead 🎉
WELL DONE!!
Thanks!

I keep meaning to look under there, I asked at the dealer and they told me there was not a tie-down point on the frame.
Congrats on the new car, good job on the getting that kayak up there, pivoting on that notch was the ticket, good luck in the tourney👍🎣👊
Thank you!
Your set now congratulations on new car good reliable vehicle go get them BASS🎣🍀
Thanks and I’ll try! :)

Another benefit of the Sub is you can drop the seats and sleep in the back instead of putting up a tent if your camping in stormy weather.
I'm very excited about that option! I've slept in my Saturn going cross country a few times years ago but when I loaded my Accord it was too packed to put a seat back, so I am looking forward to having that option again!
Congrats !!!
Thanks!
Really nice car. Good luck in ur tournament

Thanks!
Any thoughts on a trailer. I got one last year love it❤
Sure, I have that fantasy of backing my trailer down the ramp and wet-launching my Hobie Outback or Pro Angler with MotorGuide and SpotLock, but what girl doesn’t wish for that? 🤣
(PLEASE) put a non slip bathmat on your car - right where you push it up. Easy peasy and NO SCRATCHES
Good idea, thanks!
Congratulations on your new car. It's time to go fishing now..ha ha ha
Thanks! So happy I can make it safely to the ramp now!
Surprised u didn't look into a used pickup truck...makes life so much easier with loading & unloading
I looked but they were all priced higher in comparison. The used car market is crazy right now!
Good for you young lady
Thanks!
I like your new car. I think a pickup would serve you better. Mine is real easy to load and unload.
Thanks! I might get a truck next, but I really wanted a big trunk to load with all my camping stuff this time.
