- Here’s a video that demonstrates how to update the firmware of the RCD 330/340/360 infotainment systems for the VW/Skoda/Seat cars.
It’s a fairly simple and straightforward process but it is important to download the right update file for the right system as there are different OEMs for this system and the firmware updates are different.
PLEASE BE DOUBLY SURE about the update before attempting it.

Hi Prakash, sorry I missed your message. That’s right. 5711 would be the latest. 5532 works best. Honestly no discernible difference between 5532 and 5714. 🙂

A wireless CarPlay dongle is available but it is very expensive and working is also hazy - it is not very seamless like a wired system.
Hi Ganesh, I recently replaced my RCD510 with VW OEM RCD330 and it works so much better than the RCD510. Sound quality is 100% improvement. The sticker says: 6RR.035.187. HW:559, Software: 5538. Unfortunately FADER function for front & back adjustment is no longer available and music only coming from my 2x front speakers. QUESTION: a) will firmware update resolve this? b) which version should I install?. Thanks for your input
Hi, did fader work with the RCD 510? You can adjust the fader and balance settings from the Sound Settings menu. Do you not have that setting?

@@GaneshBalan I found out that with the wireless version you have to usb the rear usb to do updates. It worked.
Wait, have you soldered a separate USB port behind the unit? In that case the front one won’t work dude. It only powers a device. No connectivity. Glad it worked. 👍🏻

1. Please check the file format of the pen drive - FAT32.
2. Don’t use SD card for update. Use a pen drive.
3. Please do as shown in the video. Don’t update the firmware from the update option in the system.

I started facing a issue recently where when I connect any mobile via USB for maps or media, the system hangs after 3-4 minutes. I have tried resetting and factory reset options but the issue still persist. Can you please suggest which software version should I update?

Hi, have you tried with a different smartphone? By resetting the unit, have you long pressed the power button to reset the unit? This is a Visteon based unit I am guessing?
@@GaneshBalan Yes I have done all reset, also done factory reset. I have tried with multiple mobiles both IOS and android. I have updated recently with 5624 version but still the issue persists.

Hi David, I’m guessing you have the unit that does not have a 3.5 mm aux jack at the front? If yes that’s the RCD 360 and that does not get firmware updates.

Hi Moinu. Sorry about the late response. Yes you can use it. B/C/D/E/F are virtually the same and can use the same firmware.

Hi Moinu, I also have the same system but my software is 5515. Everything is working fine in it but my reverse camera doesn’t display in the head unit. Did you face any similar issue like this?? I was told by an after market shop owner that updating the software will fix this issue since the wiring of the camera is all fine

Hi Wangchuk, haven’t received any images from you. Regardless, your 2011 Superb would have the Bolero sound system. It is not possible to upgrade the firmware by the users themselves.
If you have issues with the sound, suggest taking the unit out and doing the diagnostics. If your unit was working fine all this while, the firmware wouldn’t have caused sound to go off.

Hi Sizmon, sorry for the late revert! First off, lemonshark RCD360 units are very troublesome as reported by a lot of users. I wish you had done some research before! I just checked the Reddit firmware section but sadly no firmware updates are listed for the 360. Did you try another iPhone or with a different cable?

Hi Ton, some updates come with 4-5 languages. Please ensure you don’t end up with the RCD 360 as that unit is not very reliable. RCD 360 has a micro SD card slot whereas RCD 330/340 has an SD card slot, 3.5 mm aux jack and USB port.

What file format is the pen drive? It should be FAT32 formatted and the folder must be as shown in the clip. Don’t use the update option from the system. Follow the video to the T. Your system qualifies for firmware upgrades easily.

What system do you have in your car? Did it come stock with the vehicle or did you install it from outside? Did this happen after the software update to 5536 or did your phone never work with this head unit from the beginning?

No man. Desay systems cannot be upgraded from what I’ve learnt from the community. I used to have a Desay unit before.

Hi juan, the 360 is a very finicky unit. I suggest not to upgrade the system if everything is working as they should.

Hi Jitu, unfortunately Mirrorlink consortium is supported only by limited companies and their devices. OnePlus isn’t a part of it and Apple definitely isn’t. It has become more of an obsolete standard now and Android Auto and CarPlay has replaced it. You’ll have to upgrade your head unit or buy an older device that supports it.

Hi Miguel, the RCD360 units are a little patchy when it comes to updates. Why do you need an update BTW?
@@GaneshBalan because my unit suddenly stopped having Apple Carplay. Now it only haves Android Auto and Mirrorlink. Do you know if I have to press a key combination or send a command via CAN bus to restore that functionality?
I’m not sure of that. Did you do something which caused this? Did you try doing a reset of the system by long pressing the power button?
@@GaneshBalan I did try that, and also tried to reset to factory settings in the setup menu and the radio still shows Android Auto and MirrorLink, but no Carplay.

Hi, as per the Reddit firmware update link (www.reddit.com/r/RCD_330/s/sFxgQZHzej), 5532 has been reported to have good audio quality.
Have you tried resetting the unit by long pressing the power button? Try removing your phone from the list of devices and add it anew. Try with a different smartphone to rule out issues specific to the phone.
@@GaneshBalan hi gannu, I bought it from a seller. Problem is it has 4 phones in the Bluetooth paired list which the previous owner had used and I can't delete it from the list. If I delete it it will go but after switching it off and on it after sometime these 4 phones reappear in the list. And if I try to connect my phones I'll need to pair mine every single time after switching it on. My phone is not saved in the list. But these 4 phones of the older user somehow reappear even after deleting it. I even tried resetting to factory settings. The List doesn't reappear right after switching it off.. it takes some time. So can I reinstall the same software? If 5532 has good audio output
@sjd5885 Hi, does your unit have an aux jack, USB port and SD card port? Asking because there are a few units which do not have an aux jack, some do not have SD card slot but has a micro SD card slot. These units are a pain to work with.

One more thing- Was there any noticeable difference when you upgraded from 5314 to 5532?
Also, does upgrading the firmware change the original display settings that appear when the car is slotted into reverse gear? I have a Vento and currently the Park Pilot and Reverse cam have the imagery of the Vento’s boot. And I wouldn’t want that to change :)

I don’t exactly recall if the type of car changes upon upgrading the firmware but even if it does you can change it back. Not a biggie.
@@GaneshBalan Haha. Got it 😀. I meant it in terms of any glitches. For eg., my HU refuses to detect the Apple device and switch to CarPlay mode every couple of days. When that happens, I long press the power button to hard restart the HU and that’s when it detects the phone and turns on CarPlay mode.

Hi, it may take about 8-10 minutes. It’ll appear as if the progress bar is stuck for some time. Just give it some time. Don’t switch off the key (from accessories) or the unit.
which features came with the upgrade
Some updates enable Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for some specific units. Otherwise the updates enable better stability to the units. That’s all.

You’ll have to take the system out and there’ll be a sticker atop the unit which shows what is the make along with the part number, connector pin out etc. Will you be able to do it? You don’t want to install the wrong firmware and brick the unit which is why I’m insisting on the make. Plus, why ads you looking for an update? Is something wrong with the current one?

Why are you using the SD card for updating? Use a FAT32 formatted pen drive.

Unfortunately there are none available in the public portals. These are Harman based units. You’ll have to get it from the official service centres. Unless you are facing any issues, stick to the current firmware.

What is the issue? Do you have a ‘noname’ 187E unit? What is the firmware you have right now on the system? Can you post a snap of the system information display from the unit?

@@GaneshBalan Nothing wrong with the unit can't get the update? The apps just take a while like Waze sometimes it doesn't pick up my car for ages until i turn car off then back on.

Did you lose sound after a firmware update? Try 5522. It’s a stable firmware.

First, what device do you have? Did it come stock with your car or did you buy it from Aliexpress? What is the model number?
Please don’t do an update just for the heck of it. It can break the device some times. If your head unit is working fine as of now, continue with it. No update is going to magically transform the unit to give a better sound output or enable wireless android auto or CarPlay. 🙂

What is your model number of the unit? Don’t go with the RCD number. Check the part number.
