  • America’s Founders understood that a republic is fragile; for it to survive, citizens must be engaged, educated, committed and have a free press and voting rights.
Join us for a special livestream conversation between Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and chairman of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Board of Trustees, Jon Meacham, and philanthropist David Rubenstein on Tuesday, June 23, at 12:30 p.m. EDT. Mr. Meacham and Mr. Rubenstein will discuss Jefferson’s remarkably modern advice on citizenship, encapsulated in Mr. Meacham’s new book, “In the Hands of the People.”

Brilliant conversation from 2 brilliant men about a 3rd brilliant man, Jefferson. Mr. Meacham's answers were articulate and perceptive; Mr. Rubinstein's questions were straightforward, relevant, and information-inducing. I especially like how he asks a finely-honed question and then remainins quiet while Mr. Meacham answers, without intrerruption or interjection. Many interviewers today spend far too much time in formulating their questions while attempting to provide their own answers before the guest even responds. This was excellent and well-worth one's time!

    A fascinating and fair discussion.
