    Watching from Albany,Georgia.
    My husband and I toured the house and property about 5 years ago and loved the experience!
    We were able to tour the upper floors,which was a real treat. Thanks for caring for this beautiful home for future generations to visit!

    I’ve visited Monticello countless times. I find the stories absolutely inspiring. These two gentlemen are excellent in their portrayals. I only wish we knew even more about Jupiter, his family, and his perceptions. Well done!

    The truth is uncomfortable, no doubt. But the truth must be told. Jupiter's story is inspirational and heartfelt. Loved this format.

    Loved this! Both are wonderful actors. I hope there are some segments with Dabney Carr and other family members like the Randolphs. With genealogy being so popular today, telling the stories of some our nation's first families is very interesting. Many families are connected from living so close together.
    I find it interesting that a family who had several slaves, many who were light skinned, I often wonder how many slipped into white society? I am sure there are many white folks today who have no idea they have enslaved ancestors.

      The ones who looked damn near white! Not just in skin tone but with straight hair, or loose curls without the kinky ness that most biracials tend to have if they don’t have anything else that lets white society know they have the African DNA….

      Many white Americans whose ancestors have been living in the US for relatively longer times actually can have up to 20% black ancestry because somewhere down the line there would be mixed black people who would pass as white in order to escape racism

    • @bunnybird9342
      @bunnybird9342 10 месяцев назад

      @@denisejohnson3578these people obviously had more white ancestry than black ancestry for that to be possible. They were mixed-race but they were still considered black only because of the one-drop rule.

    Without the slaves, Monticello won't exist. Tj mortgaged them to have that house built. Not only that, but they cleaned the house, cooked for the family, reared his daughters and grandchildren, and saw to the needs of his entire family. They took care of the gardens, animals, and every aspect of daily life there. Too much enfences on slavery? It was at the heart of plantation life!

    Jupiter suffered a horrific and crippling knee injury and was relegated to stables and other demeaning menial labor due to his lack of effectiveness. In 1800 he and his wife and child all died within 21 days of each other due to lack of sufficient care. Enslaved people weren’t allowed doctors and they died from neglect whilst Thomas Jefferson was in Washington who neither inquired or cared about humans who were his chattel in his farm book. He never honoured them with a last name. He simply crossed their names off his inventory list. He was a despicable human being who knew slavery was wrong and continued to do nothing about it

      I hope you're just as outraged about modern day slavery and are actively doing something to help irradicate it. Many products you buy on a regular basis come from modern day slavery. From technology, textiles food and more. So many things. Yet I bet you sleep like a baby at night not giving a hoot. When I see people just as outraged over what is happening today than what happened in the past then maybe I believe it isn't just about virtue signaling. In fact when I see people just as outraged over slavery that has occurred throughout human history then I'll believe it isn't just about virtue signaling. Some other food for thought, the bible condones slavery, the prophet Muhammed had slaves. Maybe we should consider banning religion, just a thought. Many famous and admired people in history had slaves. I don't see outrage directed at them. I don't see outrage directed at Native Americans who had slaves, not only enslaving their own but black and white folks as well. If anything, Native Americans are heavily romanticized. I don't hear outrage directed at Africans who enslaved and sold their own. People like you just want to cherry pick a specific time in American history and it'll be crickets to all the rest. Spare me your pearl clutching and your virtue signaling. You really aren't sincere. People like you are fake as %uck. So pull your @ass out of your chair an join or donate money to an organization that is working to get rid of 21st century slavery. For the way you judge people of the past so shall history be judging us. If YOU had been born in the 1700's and was a wealthy plantation owner YOU would have been a slave owner.

    I don’t understand. They grew up together weren’t they friends?? How could Jupiter and Jefferson not be friends?? It’s so weird. My grandson is half African American. I just realized watching this tgst I know all my history back to Europe and beyond. I don’t know the other half of Isaiahs history?? It is making me sAd. I’m going to try to find it but if he descendant of slaves I’ll never find it 😕

    • @bunnybird9342
      @bunnybird9342 10 месяцев назад

      Why are you asking us? I don't know what either Thomas Jefferson or Jupiter Evans thought and felt growing up because both of them are dead so obviously I can't ask them.
      Also you know there are DNA tests your grandson and son-in-law can do. Africans are the most genetically diverse people on the planet and African-Americans are specialty descended from West Africans (in the area around places like Ghana and Nigeria).
