    The Horse told them what the problem was...it was the gap between the ramp & the pavement! He pawed at it to show them! For some reason, he was afraid to step up onto that Ramp. If they had of had another Horse to go up the ramp in front of him, showing him it was safe, he probably would have watched & felt that it was safe for Him to go up onto it also! Horses have really good Memories & there was some reason that he felt it wasn't secure for him to go up. Probably something that happened to him another time! Also the swinging divider between the horses may have swung in front of him another time! Certain horses won't go thru a swinging gate & you have to tie the gate back before they'll cross thru it, ESPECIALLY on a Windy Day! (like the Soldier who was holding the divider back) You just have to know their Temperament! He'll go back for more training so that he won't be so skiddish about being loaded into a trailer, again! His job requires him to Trust the Handlers & follow Orders, quickly, making him & his rider (or handlers) to be as one!

    • @lindaSee89
      @lindaSee89 Год назад +4

      Makes sense. I saw the horse paw and figured this was the problem area.

    • @Roheryn100
      @Roheryn100 Год назад +9

      No, this was not the problem. If you look closely the ramp rests on small struts only an inch or two high. All horse boxes in England are very similar. These horses have been up and down horsebox ramps dozens of times in their lives, from Melton Mowbray to Windsor to Norfolk to London and back again.
      My personal impression was the noisy street and too many people standing around watching. The horse felt crowded .

    • @oldgeezerproductions
      @oldgeezerproductions Год назад +4

      @@Roheryn100 Yes that and (in my opinion) it was not led firmly and decisively right into the trailer starting at some distance from the ramp as were the other horses. Once a horse gets away with refusing, it takes a firm hand to communicate to it that it MUST go in. All my trailers are and were "step up" types (safer in my opinion) and once the horse knows it must go in, it will, ramp or no.

      @@wendyschaumberg6850 No forgiveness required, Wendy. The horses are Army horses belonging to the Army and although the UK armed forces owe allegiance to the Crown, they don’t belong to the King. The late Queen had a stable full of horses which she owned as her private property for riding, racing and breeding but they weren’t used for military or State purposes. I expect the King will have kept most of them so they are the King’s horses. The late Queen very much enjoyed visits she made to horse breeding ranches in Kentucky. Hope this helps.

He is the Commander in Chief, but he does not own these. Similarly the President does not “own” the horses used for funerals at Arlington.
      The carriage horses at the Royal Mews behind Buckingham Palace are similarly owned by the Monarchy, not the King personally.
      The only horses that belong personally to the King are the riding horses kept at Windsor Castle Mews and the racehorses he has inherited from his mother, plus ponies at Balmoral.

    This was painful to watch. Trailer looked so dark and dingy inside and barely big enough for a horse like that. The dark ramp is usually an issue too, putting shavings on the ramp can help. Teach the horse to move forward by driving him into the trailer rather than pulling/ leading him, being patient and rewarding every try, every foot on the ramp. Giving up and taking him back in is just giving him a release (reward) for the undesired behaviour. It's reinforcing that he's done the right thing by not going in.

    Maybe he doesn't like the ramp. I've seen a horse go in trailer when they took the ramp away and he could just step up into trailer...like the stairs step

    Get two men behind and join hands behind the horse. Seldom fails to work. Since the horse is watching the workers across the road, blindfold him and lead him in. This didn't need to be difficult.

    What breed of horses are these? Big and tall yet they look "crude" and lacking refinement. Andalusian, Arab, Marwary are much smaller yet much more beautiful.
