This has been on the internet for four years. FOUR YEARS. AND I'M JUST NOW FINDING IT. Been listening to some of your Periphery stuff and had no idea you had *any* video game covers, much less this one. This was definitely one of my favorites as a kid. Phenomenal work, as always.
It's so humbling to watch you play. I'm simultaneously inspired and put off by it. I'm the kind of guy who wants to try and copy your entire setup and mentality/flow on the kit, but I know it's horribly tacky to do so...I should want to find my own voice and identity...also, it seems a shame to try and re learn open handed playing this far along in my own drumming journey when it wouldn't serve to make me much better of a player. But god damn Travis. You just add a whole new dimension to this instrument. I won't say I want to quit, but I am certainly daunted by your work ethic and prowess, having watched it happen over the last decade.
Many thanks, man! Don't get too discouraged, I've felt the same way watching and listening to some cats haha. And if you want to learn something new, there's no better time to start than the present!
from a fellow video game drummer. FANTASTIC WORK. im about to put out megaman 4 and 5 but after seeing this might rethink the work and do it on smaller scale. cheers
tight! I can't watch your vids at night because it makes me want to get behind the kit and practice and the most absurd times of the day XD Amazing performance \m/
Travis: you will always be one of the greats. when it comes to your craft, you’ve become a god. i’ve been looking up to you for years, aspiring to achieve the level of discipline and execution that you’ve acquired through hard work and dedication. you’re a role model to young aspiring artists everywhere. the man, the myth, the legend, the orbinator!!!
This is amazing! Do donkey Kong or some star tropics 3 please! I’m a huge fan of yours, we met once in Edmonton a long time ago after my mind was blown and it would mean so much to me! Thanks!
UNBELIEVABLE!! The second i read the title I knew this would be a blast to listen to, you had to be so tight over these songs and your style complimented it so much. Bravo.
Have you ever imagined Travis playing for the Super Smash Bros soundtrack on Nintendo? kkkk So ... I imagined it and it's fantastic! ♥ The SSB medley is great, but seeing Travis playing is total nostalgic! When I play 3ds SSB I have fun with the fights and wonderful tracks of Nintendo. Congratulations Travis and I wish you a Happy New Year, all good, health and lots of music and drums to play excellent tracks and your excellent albums! Hugs dear friend ;)
Those smooth AF on-the-fly tempo changes are freaking sick. And those occasional looks at the camera when you're about to rip it up are a great little touch. Made my otherwise uneventful new years eve way more exciting! Thanks for this, man; great way to end 2018! ;-)
This was incredible - packed so many interesting fills/grooves in every part of the medley. Crazy to keep it that interesting for all 9 minutes! Super difficult stuff that you made look easy. Love the sound of your drums against 8-bit music too, haha - nostalgia
by all means I love matt halpern the current drummer in periphery,my personal opinion I think they screwed up by not keeping Travis orbin on drums, being a musician myself. I hear a lot more feel and complexity in Travis's playing🤟😎phenomenal job Travis!you kick ass man!this is a cool lil jam you did bro!I'm thinking we both grew up in the 80s and 90s when Nintendo,SNES and Sega was the shit🤟😎amazing video!🤟as far as periphery goes....it's their loss😆lol
@@TravisOrbin I guess so... ( Sorry for my bad english) I think I'll be able to play this if humanity find a way to leave thousand of years ^^ You're incredible :D Thank you for this one Thank you for all you did Thank you for all you will do I'm a fan Kiss (Beer is good, but bad)
Love this, Can I ask how you ended up playing such a symmetrical kit? Did you start right or left handed? It makes sense seeing you play it but at the same time it’s weirdly unique. Any books or tips for getting better ambidexterity? (Besides practice on non-standard kits)
Thanks! ruclips.net/video/jCd3yWXKyEo/видео.html You pretty much presumed correctly. Try to recreate everything you play fluently with your dominant side with your non-dominant side, taking into account all of the nuances like grip, posture, dynamics, etc. 4-Way Coordination, The New Breed, Extreme Interdependence.
Yep, this is sick

Every time I feel like I made a minor accomplishment in life I check out one of these videos to bring my ego back down
How am I just now finding this? I still don't understand how someone can play this cleanly and like a freakin perfect machine (but with feeling!)
Why is this barely on my algorithm? This is fucking awesome!
Absolutely insane. One of my favorite games growing up and one of the best game soundtracks of all time. Period.
No fucking way!! My favorite drummer playing sick video game music medley? 😭👍
Those single hand snare triplets 6:45 ...🤯
You have the perfect control over your kit. I watched the whole video with my jaw on the floor. Kudos man!
I keep coming back and rewatching. Love. This.

and then i discovered that orbin has a thing for retro video games.. unreal brother.
Wow why am i seeing this a year late. That's sick!
best way to end 2018? best way to end 2018
Nice coordination at the start - paradiddle on top with the broken double-bass hits underneath.
Makes me want to fire up my NES! Awesome bro!

Crash Man is still a jam to this day.

One of the most beloved soundtracks in the NES library!!! Fantastic job Travis!!
Mega Man has been wrecking my shit in Smash Ultimate, now this makes me think I should just go practice instead. You rule, this is great.
amazing broooooooo
You are my fav drummer👍👍👍
We need to get some VGM metal riffs on those drums, so many of those grooves you pulled were sick; especially the ones in Air Man, so tasty
Finally, a drummer that caters to all my needs!
Fucking yes, dude. Also, Air Man and Bubble Man are my favorites, too! Along with both Wily stages. Well done, my man.
wasn't expecting 2019 to start so well. bless you travis
Just re watched this with decent earbuds/sound quality and this is beast mode. Monstrous demonstration of versatility. Cheers bud,
This was so awesome! Would be sweet to see you do the same to the Castlevania NES games :D
UNBELIEVABLE!! The second i read the title I knew this would be a blast to listen to, you had to be so tight over these songs and your style complimented it so much. Bravo.
Such a unique set up for such a unique player. Ya he’s sick as hell!
Fucking awesome, now we need a guitar cover to go along with the drums 🙂

Would love to take a crack at it!
Oh, HELL yes.
This is one of those Like before listening kinda videos
The most complete drummer in the world
2:42 LOL
This is sick...check out Bit Brigade if you wanna see a full speed run of Mega Man 2 with a live band playing the soundtrack...equally as nasty
So you and Lee are working together again. ;)
Очень круто!
6:43 What is called the left hand's move???
It's called 'difficult', I believe.

Ever listen to the band Minibosses? They have a Mega Man 2 track, and it's quite good.
I remember downloading them from Napster in the early 00s heh.
ING - AWESOME!!!!
ESP MEX - Esto esta de bolas!!! :D
More videogame please
If you did one for sonic and knuckles for the Sega genesis I guarantee that you'd write absolute masterpiece.
What's the best way to say goodbye to 2018? Enjoy this video. Thanks bro!
Haha amazing
