Damn, I dunno why I've been watching anyone else's equipment reviews - most of them aren't actually reviews, they're more like independent ads demonstrating features I could figure out by going to the product webpage. This is a real review with super-useful info - the comparison back to back of similar mics alone is gold, and I sure like the sound of the Rode, thank you. Also I enjoy how you seem both dead inside and to be having fun where you can - those chirpy, fake personas are sure grating.

Back in May, I went to a local music store to see if they had a particular Audio-Technica USB microphone in stock. The guy I talked to said they didn't, but he recommended this starter kit by Mackie (never heard of the brand before then) that had the mic in the video, a good pair of headphones, and a pair of studio monitor speakers. The kit was on sale at a fairly deep discount, so I bought it. Based on your review and my experience with the mic, it's nice to know I made a good investment.

There is actually a way to monitor yourself with windows. It’s a little hidden feature in audio that will route any mic you are using through your ears as well so you can hear yourself, and it’s very low latency in my experience.

Yo, this video is fantastic. I thought the Mackie sounded pretty good imo. I just ordered it for 79 bucks, so I'm really excited to get my hands on it. Also, as a fellow guitarist, I REALLY appreciated that you included some playing in your video. I was wondering what it would sound like, particularly with an acoustic guitar, I liked it. Great video man🤘

The EM-USB is 'Zero-latency monitoring' microphone > Connect the EM-USB to your computer > then open the Control Panel and then the Sound Settings. In the playback and recording tabs, SET the EM-USB as default > now plug your headphones to the EM-USB Mic and slowly turn up the headphones volume. That's all, have fun with this awesome Mic!

Excellent videos, I’ve been stuck on this channel for an hour now.
The blue yeti has a nice sheen on the top end, but overall the Mackie EM has better body & soft highs, even sounds more warm than the AT, best I’ve seen so far!!
Aside of the Mackie EM, are there any other warm USB mics with soft highs that I should look out for?

I watch every single one of your reviews and I would like your suggestion.
I currently use a samson c01u USB mic and want to upgrade to a xlr condenser with an audio interface, thinking of the behringer um202. I need a mic for singing vocals, my voice is a little bassy and gets muddy with the samson quite easily. What do you recommend for high clarity singing vocals in the range of the Behringer B1 or AT2020? AT2035 is unfortunately not available here. Multiple suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, would an audio interface provide zero latency monitoring with effects to headphones while singing? Thank you! Some tips on how to EQ would also be appreciated.. I just cut some frequencies in the low mid and boost the highs a bit.

I recently bought the 10th anniversary edition and I'm liking it. I was disappointed to find out the Blue Voice software only works with the blue yeti x pro and gaming headset. Is there any software that does the same? Thanks!

I recently bought the em-usb to replace a samson q2u for my channel, stories shows. The q2u sounds good but I just really struggle with consistency. I record my shows in a living room but have since started re-recording the audio in my homemade audio booth. On a different video you provide a couple tips for condenser mics that was really helpful. I've just now started post processing audio, an almost foreign concept from one who has been in photography 20 plus years and made a few hundred videos. I'm hopeful I've reached the consistency level now, my best so far is One fish two fish red fish blue fish, following your tips/advice. Gotta go redo Pete the Kitten now, that one I got too close to the mic and I hear gross mouth sounds, definitely 6 inches for condenser. Thank you & peace b harmony

I just bought this mic (partly based on this review which was very useful, thanks!). I like the sound of it, but the usb-c port isn't a true usb-c port. It works if you plug in the usb-c to usb-a cable and plug the usb-a end into a laptop or dock (one cable comes with the mic, or I've tried a generic usb-c to usb-a which works too) but it doesn't work from a usb-c to usb-c cable direct into my laptop. It's annoying for me because I'm trying to settle on usb-c for all of my devices and this didn't really help with that.

WELL, THIS IS BAD!!' and something shows up at 5:20.

In my experience the issue is that that won't be zero latency monitoring. You're hearing the audio after it's been sent to your computer and routed back to you. So there will be a very noticeable delay between when you speak and and when you hear it in your headphones, and for me that is extremely distracting.

This one sounds _OK,_ not that different from the Blue Yeti really. Typical small-diaphagm highs boost (I doubt the graph is accurate), typical USB lack of bass (I almost think this is intentional to improve level handling), noise level seems fine, and 16/48 audio sounds decent for what it is but isn't exactly state of the art. Overall, decent but seems rather overpriced for what it does.

Thank you for your comprehensive test of the mic. Surprisingly I stumbled upon your test because I recently bought the www.thomann.de/de/the_t.bone_sc_430_usb_desktop_set.htm which seems exactly the same mic just with a red ring but from Thomann (German music store) and for 1/3 of the price. I'm using it for audio/video-conferencing in my home office. I also use the headphone output and I can hear with my AKG 240 studio a very faint high noise. Compared to a dragonfly-red headphone amp the inbuilt headphone amp also lacks some bass. But overall quality for my application is pretty well and for a good sound in conferencing more than enough.
