"Unless it's clear to the stewards that a driver was wholly or predominantly to blame for an incident, no penalty will be imposed." They then proceed to give drivers penalties for things that were not their fault whatsoever, like an unsafe release for example.
Penalizing the driver in those sorts of ways is effectively a penalty for the entire team, it's just the easiest way to impose a minor penalty on the entire team in those situations.
*Matt during the RUclipsr Championship at Monza, after Qualifying*: TWENTY-ONE-NINE?! I AM SEEING THAT LAP! Aarav: *admits to cutting the Ascari chicane, but not as much as Harry (who got DQ'd for a very slight corner cut at the second chicane)*
I feel there should be more of a distinction made between drivers breaking the rules or teams/team personnel breaking the rules, so speeding in the pit lane is obviously a driver's fault so the driver should be punished with a penalty, but an unsafe release is a team personnel's fault so it is the team that I think should be penalised not the driver. Maybe a fine and/or constructor's championship points reduction
I'll never understand the unsafe release rule.. why would they penalize the driver that has literally no fault in being released unsafely? They're supposed to punish the team only, not the driver
Because it's still the driver that benefits from it, plus if they did something like make it a fine for unsafe release, then every one would just do it because thousand dollar fines are pocket change for f1 teams
Amazing video!! I know that the penalties that are involve in f1 rare acing more that we could count; however, (and only if possible) you could start a series that include rare sanctions or rules that really doin't make any sense. i.e. "Worst to best penalties enforced in f1 racing". Or star some debates in which the drivers have been sanctioned poorly or way to aggressive during races (past or present seasons). Thank you, and I hope you consider some of these ideas. :)
How about changing wrong tires during race? In Sakhir 2020 that happened to George Russell, he got Bottas' tires because of communication mishap. If the mix up isn't seen and fixed within 3 laps, a penalty is issued. In that case it was, no penalty was given. There was also another involving Bottas in Spa 2015, when during a pit stop he was equipped with a mixed set of tire compounds. He served a drive-through penalty.
If you cause an incident/accident on the track, you should have to immediately give up the number of positions you cost the other car(s). If said car(s) were forced to retire, then you should drop to last place before being permitted to rejoin the race. Otherwise, there’s not enough risk to prevent drivers from forcing other cars off.
would love to kn about the weight rule of the driver and the car. Has a driver gotten into trouble for losing or gaining to much weight during a rce? or is it purely for stats?

There should be a finish result penalty. Like last Sunday, 10s isn't enough but something like your finished result-3 spots or 5. Like a qualification grid penalty.

Question, if a driver is given a race suspension. Is the team allowed to replaced that driver for the race or are they forced to enter the race with one car?
answer is yes. teams can then use backup drivers. example: when Grosjean was suspented for 2012 italy gp. there was Jérôme d'Ambrosio who replaced grosjean on 2012 italy Gp

Can someone explain 5 second penalty rule,If the driver doesn't need to pit, the time penalty will be added to their time at the end of the race. How will this total time penalty affect his race at the end of race?
So what happens if after 5 mins before the race it suddenly chucks it down with rain. Surely they would be able to swap the tyres from dry to intermediate
Maybe Hamilton should have gotten a grid place penalty? I feel like time penalties work as designed for most drivers, but hamilton just picks up the pace and gets into 1st anyways.
I started thinking about this 2 years ago when Vettel got a 5-second penalty for cutting across a chicane and unsafely rejoining the track in front of Hamilton; Vettel finished ahead of Hamilton but finished P2 because of the penalty. What if, instead of such a massive penalty as 5 seconds in this day of super fast cars, make the standard penalty the be 2(P20-P1). For those not mathematically inclined, it's twice the difference between the times of the pole sitter and the car in P20. So, if Mazepin qualifies in p20 with a time 2 seconds slower than the pole sitter, the standard penalty for that race will be 2 seconds x 2 = 4 seconds. Instead of 10 second penalties, just quadruple the difference to 8 seconds. In other words, each race will have its own penalty times. That would be interesting.
masi cooks a race haha! He create a rule where cars between hamilton ang verstappen can overake the guide car so that verstappen could win with his fresh tire..
A driver that receives either penalty is required to enter the pitlane within a certain number of laps (dunno how many, but I believe it's 3 or 5) and: - For a Drive Through, exit immediately without pitting - For a stop & go: Enter their team's boxes (same as if they were pitting for tyres), stay the amount of time set in the penalty (ie, 10 seconds), and leave. While the driver is serving the penalty, and after the time has elapsed, the team cannot work on the car (the driver must head out to the track and _then_ return to the pitlane).
