it totally depends on the kind of terrains/roads you have in and around your place/home. Since you are going to ride 90-95% times around your place then there is no point of getting a bike which doesn't resonates with that specific terrain. I am lucky in that regards because I have tarmac road, offbeat gravel route and technical rocky routes in 5-10kms proximity of my place hence :)

Great to see another perspective. I have only used Roadbikes and MTBs separately, and after shifting to roadbike I never really rode the MTB anymore.
