    Many quilters develop a large stash of scrap fabrics from all of our projects over the years. Aurora Sisneros shows us a fun way to use up that stash of scrap fabric by creating log cabin quilt squares. Watch and learn how to take any fabric you may have lying around, and turn them into beautiful quilt squares to use yourself or give as a gift!

Also, when I have scraps, I like to make pillows.......either for a gift of some size.....or there are many animals out there that would to have a wonderful pillow......I never throw out any scraps. I always use them. Thanks again.

    This is the first time I’ve watched your videos and love the way you show everything as you are doing it. A lot of people don’t take the time for all that. Thank you! I make the log cabin block using 3 inch middle and 2 1/2” strips, they come out great also. And I’ve made half of block assorted whites and the other side in prints. I love that look too because you can turn blocks around and get different looks. Please do a bear claw block for me so I can see what it looks like and how it’s made. Also like the courthouse steps blocks.

    I’m new to quilting and even by following your instructions, which are perfect by the way, my final square was all wonky and didn’t end up with a 12x12, but rather 11 1/4 x 11 1/4. My first square was about 6x6. And I’m using a 1/4 in. Foot, so no idea what i did wrong. I don’t want to give up though, I’ll try and make my second square better than the first

      She uses 2" strips that finish 1 1/2", that's how she can get a final 12" block (3" of the finished central square + 3 strips either side that finish 1 1/2" each strip).

    I like your video - I like your detail - but...... as careful as you were with everything how come you didn't show how important it is to set your seams BEFORE you fold the fabric back and iron it???

    • @dcwatashi
      @dcwatashi 8 лет назад

      I'm new to this. what did you mean by setting the seams before you iron them? Thank you

    • @jmarylastone
      @jmarylastone 8 лет назад +1

      dcwatashi after sewing two pieces of fabric together you "iron over" what you just sewed to "set" the seam/set the thread - then you open the seam or fold back the seam or whatever you are going to do and iron it - when you sew the bottom fabric (or feeddog side) of the fabric feeds thru the machine at a slightly faster pace then the top fabric and setting the seam by ironing it just makes the thread and fabric ease into each other and straighten - that is why the trick of sewing curves is to put the longer part of the curve on the bottom towards the feeddogs because that slight difference helps the curve to sew better and lay flatter

    • @dcwatashi
      @dcwatashi 8 лет назад

      +jmarylastone so if I am following you correctly, what she should have done is also turned the fabric over and pressed the seam open. I kind of wondered that myself thinking maybe she is just going to surge the seams when she's finished

    • @jmarylastone
      @jmarylastone 8 лет назад

      dcwatashi depends on the seam and what you are going to do with the seam on if you would iron it open or not - most of the time a seam is ------ set (ironed from the sewing side/wrong side) - pressed toward the light or dark (ironed from the sewing side/wrong side) than turned over and pressed on the right side

    • @dcwatashi
      @dcwatashi 8 лет назад

      +jmarylastone oh, so that the seam won't show as much through the darker colored fabric? And thank you so much for helping me. of course most people, like myself are very visual so I am trying to imagine or picture what you are referring to. How about if you could make a video on pressing seams? That would be kind of nice!! :-)
