There's a difference between calligraphy and lettering. Please don't use these terms interchangeably.
1. Calligraphy - Art of writing the letters.
2. Lettering - Art of drawing the letters.

When you say “writing” you mean done in a single movement and when you say “drawing” you mean sketching the letter, outlining it, filling etc in different steps?

@@myusername3689 Getting still hands is neither something every calligrapher was born with. That too, is a skill that can be developed. Unless you've got Parkinson's. Then you're just screwed.
They taught us in art school about calligraphy. It's not easy. He truly is talented to make a living off it.

People who are obviously experts and way better at whatever they do love to say they were terrible or didn't even know how to do it at first
This was my job in the 80s. Son of a Graphic Artist. Hadn't done it in 20 years and my wife was struggling with learning Caligraphy. I made the mistake of saying, "No, like this" and began writing. She threw away her new Caligraphy set and didn't speak to me for hours.
In my school we are graded on our normal lettering, fancy lettering, creativity, spacing and titles. It's actually my lowest grade and I'm average (cuz on my class or your a genius or its unreadable).
His mistakes are way better than my handwriting
And he has over 2 million followers on his Shosho media accounts
It took him 8 literal years to bring about perfection.
Not necessarily, he probably just wasn't mentally ready to make the change and leave his "job"...the tides turned when: 1) HE decided he wanted to earn a living creating art with HIS hand and eyes (not a computer) AND, 2) HE was confident about HIS SKILLS...that's why he posted his work online after he made his decisions. HE WAS ready, he could see himself doing it & earning a living.

Don’t quit your day job for calligraphers , 2 mil has got to be a very rare opportunity . I’m guessing he just was in the right places at the right time . I mean designing is defiantly an art but calligraphy , can be learned . I think a lot of it has to do with the tools u have .
