- The amazing song by the British Indie band Daughter. It was taken from their debut E.P. "His Young Heart" (correct me if I'm wrong because since they're newer it was rather difficult to actually find the name of their E.P. or if they even had an L.P.) Definitely one of my favourites right now.

If you are empathic, you want the chance to make everything OK again. You have to accept that there are people our there who never want that, they always intend harm because it gives them a sense of power and control.
Self esteem videos here will help you to learn that. Good luck, you should actually hate their guts because it is the right thing to do, but you are not naturally a hater. I know, I'm the same. But at least you have learned some lessons in self-defence. Be discriminating, have boundaries, and look after yourself first.

Im an empath and I feel so much and I always try to make everything right again, but these people keep using me. Its a hard lesson to swallow but your 100% right.
My take on this:
She's quietly begging someone she cares about, someone she loves, to break her heart. To let her go, so that she can move on and live happily since she isn't happy with her current state. She needs to let go but she can't do it without her love breaking her first.

OMG SAME! man it's crazy how she's so unknown.. i sang youth for my talent show once and no one knew the song or who she was and i was stunned. she has such a beautiful voice and i love her songs old and new.

I guess a lot of us know someone who just pops into our mind while listening to this. I've known that person from ten years now and he still electrifies me, he's part of me. Most of people don't know what it mean to love and hate someone. I believe those who know are blessed and, at the same time, kind of cursed
You can just tell looking at her that there is a lot going on inside her head. An old soul kind of feel.

A year ago, I was in long distance relationship with a girl, who I cared for deeply. She finally came to see me. We had whole week together, things quickly went south. I've cried so many times in that week. She left me out in the cold. She threw snow in my face. Treated me like a servant. The cruel words, she left behind. I thought I did something wrong, I did my best to fix it.... but she left me at the end. It was probably for the best. It never hit me, she was abusive, until someone said it. For the longest time, I would long for her, despite how she treated me. That was one of the worst week in my life. I'm over her but I'll never forget, how I felt during that time. this song speaks to me, about the abuse and how I was blinded. I see, how people still love their abusers. this song, just reminds me of it. :/

I think this song is about the torturous love about mental pain given to the partner without that the partner acknowledgement. The guts this person has to keep on breaking a person hart “unknowingly” without thinking about the effect of it on the other person. While the other person knows it yet is so madly in love with that person that it is dangerous for herself. In the end it’s the lack of empathy... Sadly I can relate to this pain and torture. Beautiful yet sad song.
This song is seriously amazing. All of their voices are just amazing as well.
To me, this song has nothing to do with a lover, but with my father. He has done so much to me, and my family. So many terrible, awful things that make me never want to see him again. Yet at the same time, I want to love him. I see a troubled person who’s just trying to make a path of peace for himself but destroys everything as he walks by. This song hits me like a truck.
Hearing this kind of song always reminds me how beautiful really life is.
Guess this is the worst feeling ever, when you love someone so much that hurts an then the relationship is over, just ended by some mistake. Yet you can't hate the other (not really, you say you do, you say that you're angry, but you still love that person), all you long for is: "PLEASE, do something terrible so I can REALLY hate you and let you go!". Someone else I have more things in common with has been waiting on me for months, before I met my bf, I never gave him a chance, but I just can't leave my bf for him because I'm afraid he'll back out and I'll be left regretting leaving someone that truly cared.. And I DO love my bf, despite things not going how I thought and the risks involved..

I went through this some time ago. I loved him with every cell of my blood, i would have put my life in his hands. But he didn't loved me, so all he did was use me and hurt me. He used to come to me, then leave me, then come back again, he always came back because he knew i was everything he had, the only dumb girl who loved him and would let him take anything from her, and i was always there waiting. But then leave, because he didn't love me. So i started hating him because he did me so much harm, and he didn't care or even think about how would i feel when he did all of the shit he did to me. But he still was him, and i still felt all that love, but i hated his fucking guts, i even started to feel like throwing up everytime i thought of him. Some part of me wanted him to leave me, to throw me in the landfill, throw me in the water, and never come back looking for me like he always did. and the other part was shred to pieces watching him go away, still wanting him. I think that's what this song is about.

I'm surprised I haven't found any posts considering that this song might actually be about a heroin addiction.... There is so much symbolism and likely metaphors being used so it makes sense. It could really go either way.... Relationship or addiction...

I love this son song but I certainly fun funny (almost in a bitter way) how it reminds everyone of other people they have or had in their lifes. In my case, it reminds me of myself, on how I'm actually able to turn on my feet and walk away from others' lifes in a blink for the sake of my freedom, so to speak.

Was friends with this guy for 7 years. He was controlling, and verbally abusive... I loved him deep down. I truly thought we’d be together on day. This song reminds me of what we had... I fortunately cut him out of my life... but still reminisce on the memories we had. This song always brings me back to those bittersweet days.

i feel this shit like spiritually. Like the message i get from this song is that we all have that one person no matter how much they hurt us we will always want them and i relate to that. This year a guy and i got really close and i developed feelings for him and he told me he did too but he kept like only talking to me after school and not in school. So we broke off our friendship and our friendship was on and off again for a long time and it was so confusing but no matter how many times he hurt me i would always come back

I'm the kind of person that just listen these kind of music and keep all for myself, but i don't want to be like that today, i need to let it out even if it's to random people on the internet, who sometimes I think are closer and understand me more than those who i know.
I don't have a lot of friends, actually there's just 2 of them wich i consider like that, and it has been just me for too long till i find them. But the problem is that worse than being alone is been left out. I used to think that love is a great thing, that it comes only for the best and stuff like that. But i learned, in the hard way, that the love is selfish and painfull. It's the kind of thing that makes u want that person back even if she/he hurt u like hell.
And now i'm here sitting next to the window knowing all of what i just said but still wanting the same thing. Idk if there's something wrong with me or what, but i wish i could feel diferent. It's just complicated.
Maybe no one will read this.
But for those who did, sorry about that, i just wanted to unburden all of that and doing this with those close to me it's just too hard.

The worst thing is that daughter describes everything i feel for him but at the same time everything he feels for her...
My interpretation of Smother is about that feeling you get when you know a relationship is completely over. I sense it was a relationship that was more one sided on her part. Love can sometimes turn you into something you're not, it can turn you into some sort of monster where you love this other person so much, you just want them inside your heart and you want to lock them away so they can never leave. This is what she means about when she says that it is a suffocator (pt1)
My interpretation on this is that the girl is destroying the boy's life and vice versa because they are so deeply in love. They don't want to but they need to let go of each other. That's what I think. It could be different. :-)

She hints to the fact that she feels so worthless she might as well die, and when she does she will meet her "creators" (keeping it non denominational) and they will agree that she is a suffocator. ...and I remember my own had to do with a partner I met in treatment for anorexia(and not like it helps to persuade anybody but, yea-- thats almost always about as unhealthy as it sounds to date people you meet in treatment!)
--we even had the same outpatient therapist! but we still couldnt see why people kept saying it wasnt a good idea for us to date...because it WAS dangerous. and part of the danger was how we couldnt even see how dangerous it was!
thank god she broke my heart and actually did send me out in the freezing cold to wait for the bus...underweight and painfully freezing, where it probably was a real possibility that I could have died waiting for the bus, but we both might also have killed each other with both of our anorexias competing with each other...sooo its just as well, I guess, because in the end we both lived!
