Turner: "Am I out?"
Flormon: "Not yet... Now you are."
My first thought was Justin Turner so I kept backing it up to see what I missed.
I think the Phillies are lucky obstruction was not called. If you look at other plays pulling the same or similar fake, the fielder never touches the runner. The infielder did put his mitt on the runner. Was it enough to prevent him from getting back safely, no. But that is not what the rule says. Just contact.
@@russellcurtis2501
Exactly right. Should’ve been called.
@@russellcurtis2501 exactly my thought while watching that
@@russellcurtis2501 came here looking for that comment. I’ve seen Baez fake people out like that but never use the glove
At 2:44 the second baseman tagged the runner with an empty glove. That runner was not tagged out at that time. The 2nd baseman had the ball in his throwing hand.
I was about to say that lol
That's why they did a review and overturned it.
This was in my feed. I haven't played ball in ages, but wow, these were great.
Literally same but I’ve jus been watching these non stop for the past few days
@@Groupiebby I think I will be too. They're a bit addicting, but in a positive, "you can do anything" kind of way. 👍
I like playing with balls...
@@ugaboga9829 good to hear
I've never played. Or watched it
AMAZING Talents.
Yeaaaaaaaaaawaaa
Harrison did that little slide cancel 😂
The funny part is that if the second baseman had just kept his glove exactly where it was, he'd have gotten the out. Great bit of misdirection.
@2:49, Greinke safe running to second was never tagged with the ball (glove only)
The fake to third and throw to first is a balk now.
No it’s not
@@SportsVIDZ34it is
Not if it has runners on first and third and they fake to third and throw to first
It is a balk

Florimon touching Treat Turner while not having the ball is obstructions and should have been awarded the bag or a return to 1st. These are the days without replay and these are the things that turned a game.
At 4:42, the second baseman stroked his knee before he touched the base
nah you can see on the last angle, he doesnt touch him
Those plays were sick
1:49 This play is actually a missed call, this play is Obstruction, the shortstop isnt allowed to touch trea turner without the ball because that could prevent the runner returning to the base
Notice how the shortstop pretends to make a tag but keeps his glove away from the runner? He only touched him after the runner was standing on the base.
The rule for obstruction is, "when a fielder illegally hinders a baserunner running within the basepath". The shortstop clearly didn't hinder the runner from reaching 2nd base.
LOL there was no obstruction, it was a pop out and he was doubled off.
2:23 nice play
That utley play is goated
2:09. Hollywood Casino. I live 8 minutes from there xD.
2:45 he didn’t get him out because the ball wasn’t in his glove
But it was in his hand

Same
What happened on the greinke dodgers vs STL one? Was greinke called safe because the ball wasnt in the fielders glove?
Yea he never actually got tagged with the ball or a glove with the ball in it
2:40 have made this play and I love it
1:03 Would this play be considered a balk? I thought once you started the pitching motion, you had to follow through.
i was wondering the same, i thought the back foot had to move first
At the time it was legal, but you can no longer fake to third and turn back towards first base. He would have had to step off the mound before making the move to third, or throw to third.
That's definitely a balk.
100% a balk by todays rule set
That clip is from 2000, and at the time was a legal move. The rule was changed before the 2013 season.
fakes move is a fake move of fake moves
??
0:43 And...... OUT is the call 😂😂😂
Great stuff.
@1:35
Both team’s uniforms look so much alike on TV. I can’t tell what’s going on! 😅
Hopefully in-person the colors appeared more different than they did on TV.
Well one is gray and one is white. So it would look kindive different in person
Nice
Never been a fan of baseball but would watch if stuff like this happened more often.
Ender Inciarte is very good at dekes! I always think of the one where he fakes the “can’t find it” move and throws out the runner at 1st.
1:20 thats a balk he has to throw the ball to where his foot is leading
Didn't have to make the throw to third back then. And once that legal fake was made, the pitcher was just an infielder free to do anything with the ball.
Did you actually think everybody on the field missed that hardly-subtle movement, only to be caught by a sharp-eyed youtube commenter years later?
@@vmb1432 the Mets still had black uniforms, they were in Shea Stadium which was demolished in 2008 to build Citi Field, and the camera quality is horrendous so yea, it’s before 2013

2:50 The second baseman tags to runner with his glove, but the ball is in his other hand. The umpire should’ve caught that.
Ah yes, the quintessential ironing cheese, absolutely superb
Good video
crazy stuff
1:40 this was a discussion in an umpire meeting we had for our chapter. Some felt that him applying the fake tag and keep the glove on him could be considered obstruction. As a Phillies fan I told him to shut up.
This is a great video
nice
Lots of things you never knew are legal moves in baseball, much like in volleyball.
God bless innovation.
yes
Anyone notice at 2:48 the runner is safe because he tagged with the glove without the ball
The call was over ruled i believe, it said he was put back at 2nd
@Charles Steele actually the rule is that the runner must be tagged with the ball itself, the glove is the only thing that acts as an extension of the ball itself.
7:41 Won the world series.
One of the plays shows the 2nd basman tagging the runner with the glove but ball in other hand. The guy was NOt out.
yeah that’s why the overturned it
Man they are out there like swinging those bats
Wow they are really swinging those bats
The old Jedi mind trick. 1:39
1:06 "Great move Great move" No that's a balk my man.
That was what my first thought was
Yeah there were a couple pickoff throws that looked like balks.
That clip is from 2000, and at the time was a legal move. The rule was changed before the 2013 season.
It was a legal move when this game was played.
ok as soon as it happened i was like wait how is that not a balk
1:11
That wasn’t a fake that was a balk!
5:12
That’s a balk as well!
Yeet the ball
After seeing videos like this which have older SD broadcast games vs the newer HD games, no wonder people wanted to see the games in person back then. Just the difference in the color brilliance is amazing. But then again this is coming from someone that grew up in the 80s, was never interested in baseball and was always seeing my father watch baseball on the 28" or 30" console TV my family had. :)
At 2:50 in the clip, the second basemen misses the tag on the advancing runner prior to throwing to first base. Some bad umping there to call it a double play.
Um it wasn’t he got sent back to second
3:15 that was clever.
I suscbribe!!
At 7:00 it is interesting that both the shortstop and the second baseman were in on the deception. Also, in that same play, the white sleeve of the shortstop kind of looks like a baseball (if you're a runner and not paying close attention). Which makes me think: if I was an infielder, I would totally wear a white sweatband at my wrist to try and decieve runners.
do you even play baseball.
cool
1:08 that's a balk
uh no it’s not
Yes it is because he was going to pitch and he throws the ball to 1 base
@@valentins4744 he didn’t make a move to home plate.
This Check 3rd then throw to 1st move is NOW illegal circa 2017ish. But it was legal then. I would also hear arguments that he really didn't step to 3rd deliberately and was therefore a balk.
@@chrisknowskarate yeah you're right, this movement is illegal now a day. Before it wasa complete legal movement
wow raise your volume

When they got a double play bc he tagged the runner going to 2 and then threw to 1 if you look closer he didn’t tag the runner with the ball he tagged the runner with his glove
That is one of the things I was gonna say. Theres a few things they should of called but missed. Its funny that certain things only get called against they visiting team or the home team but never both. I don't believe for a single second that every ump calls every game completely fair. I do believe that depending on who the umpire(s) are will determine the game.
Interesting. My goodness. You are right. I didn’t see that.
Why didn’t the team challenge that call?
@Jason Sim
Got it. Thank you.
They didn't get the double play. The runner was safe at second base.
When your watching and you do not know what happens you know it’s good
2:49 second baseman takes the ball from his glove and doesn't tag the runner with the ball.

No it is not a balk. It was a legal move when this game was played. The rule has changed and would be a balk today.
2:39 so is the runner out if the guy tags him with his empty glove while holding the ball in throwing hand?
Upon review the runner is called safe. It’s all there
At about 2:50 Wong tags the base runner out with glove whilst the ball is in his free hand. Pretty sure that’s not legal.
Ya I thought the same, not sure how that works but don’t look rite lol
It's not illegal, it's just not an out. The out on the runner was overturned.
First throw
Wow
I've said it before and I'll say it some more, Rizzo is a baseball magician, with the Cubs anyway.
If you go to 2:49, the runner was tagged by a glove that didn't have a ball in it. ooops.
Yes, the umpires saw it and put the runner on second base.
Prisoners would bring a better game. They are great at, stealing, fighting, lying and arguing, all of which are crucial in being a great baseball player. Guess that's why The Longest Yard was such a good movie.
1:05 was 100% a balk
It was not a balk. It was a legal move when this game was played. It would be a balk today.
5:04 that is a balk

At the 2:46 min mark NOT an out. Pitcher tagged the runner with his glove. The Ball was in his other hand unless they changed the rules. .
They haven't changed the rule, they put the runner on second base.

did anyone else notice the guy tagged out as part of a double play, the second baseman kept the ball in his throwing hand and tagged him with an empty glove, is that legit?
No, that's why the double play was overturned.
It was overturned
Can someone explain why he did it?
@@lamosos He feels in a hurry to throw to first base, and so he instinctively kept the ball in his throwing hand.

Even in 2021, if you are playing against Molina, just stay on the base until there is a base hit or home run. The GOAT will get you nearly every time, even at 38 years old. Even recently from his knees.
The play at 2:00. If the 2nd baseman touches the runner with an empty glove wouldn't that be interference?
Interference is a bit of a judgement call, Florman was definitely pushing it by continuing to apply the tag, and if you're a SS, don't do that, but because Turner was essentially already out, and especially because he didn't even try to get back to first, there was little reason to call interference.
I'm still lost. Why was Turner already out? He wasn't the one who hit the ball. How does it matter that the batter got caught out. Why is Turner out?
Not interference, but also not a tag out.
@@rachitm109 He is out on appeal when he did not tag up before advancing on a caught fly ball.
1:07 how is that not a balk he stopped his leg kick!?
I think it is because he stepped toward third then made a legal move to first
@@zattack_4187 yeah I see that thanks
That's why I hate baseball. I've seen balks called for literally no reason at all. And then this is somehow not a balk.
@@jimmy8377 Back when this game was played it was a legal move. It would be a balk today.
not a double play, 2:46 the runner was touched by an empty glove, with the ball in the other hand.
Correct, and the umpires ruled the runner safe at second base.
Will someone kindly explain why that is not considered a balk please? 1:03
Edit: Never mind. I read further in the comments.

Yes, and they returned him to second, had the first baseman went over and tagged him, that would be different.
