Just be grateful you had the honour to drive the majestic legend that is an F88 .. I cut my teeth on one of those and it’s pound for pound the best unit ever built ... an F88 is royalty in my eyes .
I'm a truck driver for almost 20 years. Been driving quiet a few Truck Brands, including Japanese & European Trucks ranging from Hino, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, MAN, Iveco, Actros,Renault, Scania and of course VOLVOs! Volvo stays top in my heart! From manual up to I-Shift, I had good times driving it! Nice to see a young lady appreciate those old faithful F88 (which I didn't have a pleasure to drive -yet) Looking forward to have a chance with FH 2013. What a great truck! VOLVO for LIFE!
After 20 years plus of driving a large variety of trucks, the last being an FH12 I can honestly say the most enjoyable was my 1972 F88, still a nice looking truck in my opinion
I drove an old Volvo Viking 4x4 on Iceland. It was a 1964 and what feels like driving a tractor is actually the feeling of ground making the truck very enjoyable. We hammered this beast pretty hard drifting around on gravel roads at 90km/h. That is way above the red mark on the tacho. If there was one. It is tiring and demanding though...
Not too fair a comparison 260hp v 700hp!! The F88 was revolutionary when it was released here in the UK in 1968. My father bought a new FB88 in 69. Awesome truck.
my father had the f89 till 1992 then he gave it to scrap and took the f12 385 and since 2004 he was driving the same truck...it still goes..the f12 was the first truck to take my driving lessons..i still remember the shift you had to have a dinosaur biceps to change gears..that is what trucks are made for...long exploitation in all circumstances
If you double clutch the gear change was as easy again. Volvo synchro box was dour to change especially when cold, real drivers doubled the clutch, no problem.
@serbtrucker man you are very lucky to drive a Volvo F 10 yes old truck but very nice old school look. you have any vids or pics on youtube of the truck?
You can't possibly compare the 2 trucks ,in its day the f88 was the best of its kind and when I first drive one it was a revelation in every way, like being in holiday compared to the 130hp Seddon I drove before
joe mcgovern Yes Joe I remember when 88s came out we were driving Guy, Atkinson, AEC and all that kind of man breaking rubbish! Driving a Volvo was like a carribean holiday.
I learn to drive in the F 88 in the age of 11 it was a very good truck and i loved it this truck is LEGEND now i am driving a FH 420 there is a huge difference but i think its not fair to compare those two trucks greetings from Greece
My grandfather had a F88 (kasipari) when he drove a logging truck in the beginning of the 70's and his co-workers were a bit annoyed by the fact that they gave a greenhorn a brand new truck and the veterans had to drive the old trucks wich were barely holding up
i love volvos im through and through volvo only for me but realy truck driving used to be a skillfull job and only a few people could cope with it but now its nowhere near as skillfull because basicly anyone could get in a fh16 700 and drive it but with the old wagons you have to be a certain type of person ive driven the older wagons ive been in the newer but i still want to keep the manual gear box and the big old grunting engine but its all personal preferance but im stayin oldschool
Q: What was the first Volvo heavy truck to be exported here (in the U.S.)? Hint: I'm referring to the period which was before Volvo had taken over the bankrupt White Motor Co. in 1979.
very very true and i realy agree with the traction control whats the point but hey aslong as your on the road and haulin and pullin in the cash its all good ey
its a bit easy to be fooled when driving the new trucks, they are so comfortable that you loose some of the feeling of the road. that is not a big problem on good roads, but when driving on norrow roads during winter you still need some skills, its very scary at times and i would not be without abs breaks, but why they put traction control on trucks i cant understand.
New truck drivers don't really know what real trucking is all about. With I shift gears, cruise control and modern technology etc. They also pass there test in automatics, but when it comes to the real world, when they get a driving job, and they're handed the keys to a truck with a range change gearbox or a splitter box or an Eaton Fuller Super 10 or 13 speed or the 18 speed then they really don't have a clue. So how can Volvo compare the F88 with a modern F16 with a rookie behind the wheel to justify there new flagship truck.
I drove a f88 volvo for hundred,s of mile,s fantastic truck to drive. why do you,s have that loud music in the back ground, you can,t hear the people talking.
My father drove for many years the volvo f89. it was a tractor unit with container trailer. heavy loads almost every day. Once he put on 3 big piece of marbles 2 on the front flat container and 1 on the second. Because he want the most weight on the tractor not on the trailer to have better grip and sense of steering. The other two trucks of the same company that day did the opposite. 1 on the front and 2 on the back then we left slowly uphil down hill i was scared because the load was to heavy
secretspyfrog I can only imagine the kind of shit you write in your articles if you think she knows anything about what it is to be a real truck driver working against all odds.
Gareth Ifan the f86 was also a great little truck, not for continental driving but great for normal day to day, made all the British trucks look stupid and old fashioned
If you like videos of class 8 test drives, you'll find 7 of them at the TodaysTrucking1 RUclips channel, including 2 with Jim Park behind the wheel of a Volvo VN 780. Check em' out - we think they're pretty good.
haha .driving f88 is hard are you kidding me . you have to drive my dad mack 1942 with double stick 10 speed gear box and no power steering no a/c no double cap to sleep . I was going take this f88 volvo over my dad mack in heard beat . keep trucking .
@@jorgengabrielsson6660 Wow, i'm impressed how your father's boss was that loyal to listen to an employee that FORCES him to buy another truck instead of asking the owner politely.
this video is pointless putting a girl to test F88 against FH700, I mean... to drive the F88 you had to be a real man back in those days these new trucks are designed so a little girl can drive them I would like to see her in my F10 full of timber driving downhill in Serbia :)
Is this advertise? Yeah very good advertise xD The new Volvo is powerful as 18 wheeler" Who the fuck drivs a 700 hp as 18 wheeler? Put in a 400hp on a 18 wheeler and thats more the enough. Put in a 700 hp if you're driving timber in sweden with a total weight around 60 tons. Then we could start talk about buying a Volvo 700hp.

SUPERB! 2 trucks legendary
When the f88 came out| we felt were in heaven after enduring hot slow uncomfortable british trucks for years. The volvos were a .quantam leap forward

Which Volvo big rig do you think is better than this? The F88 that she's also testing? The F89 with the larger TD120 engine? The F12? Or the F16?
i would love to learn drive fh700. fl12. fh380. fl16 and fh380 and f88 and f89 as tipper models

I think the F89/F12 would be much better than either one of these two... who really needs the FH16-700's brawn?
0:06 that is real sound of breaks!!!
yea as long as you make a decent profit out of the truck and dont have to work so much that it hurts family life its all good:)

That'll be the F86. Went on trial I believe but not successful in trial service?

Driven them all in 28 yrs. The only truck you can steering with one hand ! The new Scania made too cheaply ! Driver's seat a big problem !

I grew up in the F88... remember my father 🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡on that slow junk and forced the owner to buy a Scania 140😂😂😂
And what did the owner do? Did the owner actually buy it?
Yes he did🙏🏻
@@jorgengabrielsson6660 Wow, i'm impressed how your father's boss was that loyal to listen to an employee that FORCES him to buy another truck instead of asking the owner politely.
maybe f88 is more reliable :D
