Listen everybody if you need a Camera guide? This is a great place to get one. When I got in the photography I purchased the Panasonic G7 camera guy from him and wow didn’t make a difference and learning how to use that camera. It made me become a better photographer. Thanks
Always on the lookout for new and affordable gear for my camera. Currently I shoot on a 200D, primarily video, and I always need a good option for longer battery life, so these options look to be super helpful. Thanks for putting this together.
I use an Anker battery also sold as EZOPower, that has two USB ports and one DC Power port with 9v and 12v output. It powers my Canon 6D and 60D, as well as my Canon RP camera. I also have the FP Flashpoint battery that powers my flashes but also has a DC port to power my camera with the proper dummy load to camera.
This couldn't have come at a better time. I was choosing all the parts I want for my GH5 rig (using suggestions from your videos and blog posts), but I wasn't sure what kind of battery solution to go with. With this, I decided I'm gonna start investing in V-Mount batteries. Thanks Caleb!
Great video! I got the dummy battery + powerbank (no need for ifootage). I do admit it's not really practical for run and gun shooting, because I don't carry around a cage to attach it. However, I shoot most of the time on a tripod so I just hang the powerbank in a small bag and hook it where I can. Otherwise, I have three small batteries that last at least 1h30 to 3h00 depending on how much footage I shoot.
I am using the ifootage electric ray. I have put together a cable to plug direct into the camera. That way I can still have a battery in the camera as a power reserve. Amazing, charging up, so easy now with ifootage.
Good demonstration of the current technological hurdle - batteries! Pay all that money for the most compact mirrorless and you surround it with battery?
The only problem I found with the extended battery packs (at least the Sony one for my A7S) is when you use a follow focus, the camera body still moves and is noticeable when pulling focus quickly :/ BUT! I am so thankful for the other options you provided in this video. Thanks again man!
@@dslrvideoshooter Nice, i am starting with complete TILTA cage system. So many options to build, from basic body to fully rigged film camera, cant w8 for your version of buikd. :)
Sooo much knowledge in this video - really appreciate it, Caleb! I don't know whether you take up requests from your audience in any way. But is there a chance that you can be persuaded into talking a bit about the possibilities of charging batteries through solar power? I can't find much info on that on the interwebs. All I can find seems to be about charging power banks and phones. And if there were anyone I would like to introduce me to charging NP-F's and V-mounts with the power of the sun, it's you!
Nice video again, Caleb ! Very helpful Just discovered the Tilta NP F baseplate, such a great device I have a question : i have a sony a7III and the Sony NP-FZ100 is 7.2v. There no issue at using a 7.4v power ? i'm not really into electric stuff .... Thanks a lot mate !!
Hi. I like your tutorials, they are always clear and straight to the point. Speaking of the powering solutions, are those truly universal and work for any camera? You refer to Sony and Canons, but will they work for a Nikon? I am afraid to fry my camera trying. Thank you!
4:44 - 6:04, Q: Once you connect this smaller set up together what do you connect external battery and camera to? 6:05 - 7:03: With this small / mini set up I'm still not quite sure HOW you connect this to the camera, then the battery back to the camera or to a tripod mount?? Wish you would have shown this (complete) set up as you did the others. Sorry, I wasn't quite able to catch on to these two concepts. Could you explain better here? Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge.
I've used a dummy battery and external battery pack for a long time with my 5d mk III with no problems. We're talking about 12 hour music video shoots too.
I'm planning to get fuji xt3 with tilta vmount baseplate and fxlion nano one. With this combo you can power the camera from USB c and external monitor from dtap or dc out at the same time 😊
Was just looking for an alternative for my annso adapter. QC must be all over the place. Mine cuts out all the time on my XT3. The tilta options look promising. Coming in clutch again, Caleb. Thanks for making this video.
Hey Caleb, I'm not sure if its better to have a battery plate, to power camera + monitor, or would be better with only monitor powering camera... Dont know what to do. Some advice will be appreciated
I've been looking at leveling up to V-mount and seeing that Tilta mount changed the game for me. Now, just have to wait for a good cam to drop: Sony A7Siii or Panny S1H.
Thank you for an awesome and informative video. I actually have two of those cheap battery adapters you mentioned, and yeah, they suuuuuuck. I also would not recommend some off brand battery grips. I got a Vivitar battery grip for the a6500 for free. It worked fine until the camera decided it didn’t recognize it and shut off... right in the middle of my bride and groom’s first look. Thank goodness I had two other cameras rolling!
Hi Kaleb, did you know you can hotswap your batteries when using a batterygrip. I've purchased the offbrand batterygrip that you recommended in your "My favorite camera setup" video, for my GH5. And with 1 battery in the body and 1 in the grip, you can hotswap batteries for unlimited power.
The V-mount plate from Tilta is supposed to be just compatible to MBPCC cameras (hard to believe for me) but it seems you use it for your Fuji - right?
Great video once again! Whenever I use my usb powerbank to dummy battery with dual usb to my gh5s, it works fine until I need to set white balance and I click the shutter. It ends up restarting the camera. What do you suggest? Battery grip? Or different usb option?
Dear Caleb! Could you please help me advising some third party dummy battery comapnyies? I cant find an official Nikon EP-5A with a dc cable input, only with a strange ending. Are third party batteries safe to use?
My tilta baseplate, I can actually pull the battery out enough for it to stop supplying power. I was wondering if yours had the same issue? If my eject button was 1mm closer I wouldn't have this issue.
I'm usually a massive fan of getting off-brand kit but I've had issues with my Newer battery grip for my GH5 corrupting files when it switches over between grip and internal batteries.
I kinda get the pain you went through. I would suggest looking into a used battery grip from the camera maker itself. Got a used, well kept example for my X-T2 at a great price off ebay
Do you know if they have any battery plates for any other battery except for the F970? Maybe the GH4 DMW battery. If not, do you now if they have any battery plate adapters? I'm trying to power my rig with DMW because I have lots of them.
I really liking the Tilta V-Mount Baseplate. I am currently buying the parts to build a rig based off your video ULTIMATE Handheld Camera Rig. How would the Tilta V-Mount Baseplate effect it?
Thank you for all your videos. Is there a way to power a Fuji X-T3 through its USB-C port from a 2.1mm DC 7.4v port? I am wanting to use a Sony NP battery adapter plate mounted to a cage to power the X-T3 and a Shinobi (via battery eliminator). I wanted to stay away from a dummy battery for the X-T3. Does anyone make a 2.1 DC to USB-C cable?
I know this video's pretty old at this point but just curious if you've been keeping up with more recent developments in this area. I have the Tilta NP-F plate with a 12v and 7.4v DC out, but I've been having trouble figuring out if one of those DC ports could supply power to a camera (like the Lumix S1) with USB-C power delivery if the right cable was used. Any insight?
Great video as always. Wondering if you recommend powering a Pocket4k with the Tilta plates that output 12v. I'd love to go straight to the Weipu instead of a dummy battery if it will output 12v.
Guess that tilta vmount would be good for the blackmagic pocket 4k instead of the core swx. Especially if you get several batteries instead of more than one core swx 🤷🏾♂️
The sound of mounting the V-mount battery is amazing.

Some off-brand batterygrips tend to deplete the battery, even when it´s not on. So I never leave the battary in when I put it back in the camerabag.
