Honestly Zerospace appeals to me more than stormgate so far, I think unfortunately its largely because I find it more aesthetically pleasing. I could see myself having some fun with this, but I doubt it will replace a game like sc2 for me, still looks very cool and has a lot of interesting ideas.
Agreed. Stormgate looks very bland and everything feels very clunky right now. Just watching the unit movement and spellcasting in this feels way more fun than stormgate. I'm sure SG will get better over time, but this game is also in alpha and is miles ahead. Looking forward to being able to play this game.
I really don’t understand this sentiment at all, to me zero space looks more like brood war remastered visually than anything remotely modern (even comparing to sc2 it looks dated)
@@frejkarlsson6777 I mean Stormgate is just Warcraft3 repackaged. Zerospace actually plays more like StarCraft than Stormgate. And Stormgate was touted as the big SC2 successor.
Agree, for me, stormgate feels so slow and looks bland. I think a challenge for both to overcome is the overall production quality of SC2. I understand both are pre-release but StarCraft stays somewhat relevant because it nails the details; building animations, death animations, voice lines , weapon sounds, explosions and physics, sound track etc.
i have always wondered what the person that first discovered cheese must have felt like about 10000 BC - it is with great interest that I get to witness harstem invent cheese in 2024
From a casual prospective I think this game looks amazing. I've always loved rts games, but so few of them appeal to a casual audience. This genuinely looks like everything I could ask for in a casual take on rts an rts game, without sacrificing the core fun gameplay that rts games give.
This game looks so sick. Just found out about it last night and after watching stormgate for a few months this definitely feels more like the advancement from StarCraft 2 that I was hoping SG would be, which seems more like a retread and not fully realized yet. I’m loving what I’m seeing with this game and I can’t wait to try it out!
Harstem you need to talk to your editor, he keeps flashing your home address on the screen, and you never know what sort of creepy Zerg castor who needs replays on the new patch might use one of yours in a game you played against Serral might try to contact you with that info
There are a LOT of RTS on my wishlist right now but Zero Space is on top. It just nails my expectations when I think about a decent modern evolution on the good old RTS where you'd spend hours on the campaign alone before even starts to get into the mutliplayer. And honestly I am not worried about the multiplayer there are SC2 ex pros in the development team like Catz and I trust his experience and deep understanding of what we want in an RTS. Look between you and me, Battles Aces and Stormgate look good but I feel like Battle Ace is just the SC2 micro isolated to make a game from it so it is a dumbed down RTS really and Stormgate just look like a lesser version of SC2 just even more cartoonish.
As a (small) backer of Zerospace I love that you cover the game :) Personally, I backed the game because of the relatively high focus on a single player campaign, which I enjoy most. But I hope you guys have fun with PvP, because this is the kind of thing that keeps a game alive.
Actually at longet time scales the freedom to make custom experiences keeps a game alive. SC1 and WC3 remained vibrant less from the pro play scene and more from the custom map scene, and I suspect the numbers for SC2 are and will be similar. I really hope Zero Space has deeply understood this lesson - custom maps, ideally ones you can play with others by just downloading the map file (without having to go through a central controlling party like SC2), and a powerful map editor (the ideal is the power of SC2's editor with the more accessible UI of WC3's editor for the common stuff), will prove to be a huge difference-maker when we're looking at 2-3 years after release. Consider: as a single-player campaign enjoyer, you're probably more likely to play well-crafted custom campaigns made by the community than you are to get into the tryhard competitive scene.
this game looks a hundred times better than Stormgate. I don't understand all the hype with Stormgate, all the games i've seen from it are anything but entertaining to watch.
What I don't like about ZS is that the graphics are a bit janky. But that can be fixed. And my list of negatives for this game more or less ends there. The art style is nice, the units are smooth and responsive, the units feel original, the abilities are interesting and map readability is also good. This game is everything I was hoping SG would be. SG feels bland and unoriginal in comparison.
This was great, graphics 10x better than stormgate, battles are micro-intensive, heroes are great, I'm excited about this game but I doubt it'll have an active pro scene comparable to other esports.
Interesting game, I like some things about the art and dislike other things -- I wish the heroes were not warcraft3 scaled -- their so big! seems so weird to me -- but the game play looks cool maps look nice -- looks very fluid and nice.
For me, zerospace has way too many teleport abilities. Things are constantly recalling or blinking or teleporting. Its very tedious to watch any interesting skirmish immediately end because one player decided he didn't like how it was going and recalled his army.
Here's what's gonna happen: - People don't understand that visuals should be worked on later in the dev cycle, so they'll prefer ZeroSpace over SG because it rushed to better looks early to catch some eyes - SG will work out its quirks while looking worse because that isn't the focus right now - People will go "surprised Pikachu face" once both SG and ZS are done about SG feeling better overall and discard ZS
I already like Stormgate more because with all these new rts’s coming out, they all feel the need to bring heroes to multiplayer. I’ve never been a fan of Warcraft 3 and the way they did heroes. Stormgate’s alpha that I played felt really good and the lack of any real hero units honestly appeal to me. I will never understand why people want heroes in RTS, they ruin all of the strategy in these games. Go play fucking League if you like heroes.
The game looks really cool and fresh mechanics. But gfx wise i know gameplay is more important than gfx in RTS. It looks terrible for 2024, it looks like broodwar :P Buildings also not has any depth or shadows could maybe it's your gfx setting
I dont like this WC3 undead auto mining vibes that we are getting from all games. They ( developers ) so much trying to appeal to new generation they lost totally the strategy word in RTS might aswell call it Real R*tard Simulator😂😂😂
For me, if resources aren’t gonna have real mechanics to them like Tiberium regrowth or how age of empires randomly generates resources on the map, you might as well make a building generate them. Take minerals and gas from SC2 there’s very little strategy/decision making to them, you always want more minerals, and you have to decide when to take gases. Why does it matter if you’re building workers that will automatically go to work vs making a building that does the same thing.

The first human.
ZeroSpace looks so much more polished than what StormGate managed to churn out.
It feels much further along... The stormgate open beta felt more like a pre-alpha to me

Niceeeee. I got the last key at 21:05. Thank you, Harstem
Thank you for announcing. :-)
How do you even activate a key that you get?
This was a steam key
Animations are coming along really nicely
The bomb bay the dreadnought refered to is one of it's turrets that you build on it

I will not stop ocasionally asking you to try out beyond all reason. Epic game really. Trust me. I'm a very credible person :D

I'd play it if it were on Steam.

Tank with additional turrets on it is pretty much concept directly from Tiberium Wars
Ya there are some inspirations from Tib War here and there, you love to see it

Looks fairly interesting and could feel nice to play, but I'd definitely need a campaign to get accustomed to it.
I like it, it has personality.
10:36 alpha key?
I thought this was gonna be the SC2 AI
Agree with many here. Looks so more fun than SG. The economy, ways the units engage each other etc. SG looks more like unit tester

it's expensive to do recall on lots of units. it just feels like it because hero has it (but they are more of a support unit at mid-late game).

Looks fun, but maybe the units are too tanky?
The problem with stormsgates esthetic is how bright the maps are, too happy compared to how dark this game and starcraft look
and the graphics are awful.
And the art style. Everything looks like Fortnite.
Visually it looks like it's from 2002, but at least it has character and the game itself seems fun to play, unlike blandgate.
