    This is the only video i could find on how to grind an oblique and it's excellent 😉
    I followed it and I got a perfect writing oblique nib out of it. I've used 2 oblique fountain pens before and that really helped me know what I was shooting for.
    I definitely learn better by seeing so thank you so much for putting it this excellent guide. As always your attention to detail is really helpful!
    I know you thought the tipping was a bit ugly but in fairness I'm not looking at a nib with a loupe most of the time so I wouldn't let that take away from your achievement. To anyone put off by the title, don't be! It's a great guide!!
    On a side note I love this part of the hobby. I can enjoy what I've got now without spending money or buying new things!

    Lockdown made us do crazy things. Your idea was a good guide.
    I used my Dremel and sharpened all my kid's teeth. Now they look like the Addams family, and the neighbours get us to make their Jack-o-lanterns. One bite does it.

    Interesting and helpful along with a creative way to maintain the angle. Giving me courage to try.

    Nice! I'm trying to get a reverse oblique dialed in, having issues with it digging into the paper on upstrokes (left handedness, the struggle is real). I'm sure it'll get there, lol unless my patience runs out.

      Its just smoothing out the crisp edge to properly and to suit your writing angle. Very easy to over correct. Like in Beavis & Butthead "Its not what you cut, its what you don't cut"

    Wow, pretty courageous -- and a decent result. Maybe, just maybe...I have a few lower cost potential "voluntold" pens I might try it on.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  3 года назад

      That's what cheap pens are for. Practice on the $3 pen, after you do a few and you feel confident, then you can do more expensive ones

    I am working on a nib now. I am trying to reduce flow. So far, I think I may have jacked it.
    I have also been using whet stones.

      Going more dry is a bit tricky. Can only close the gap at the tines a bit. Other than that, adjusting the feed but only on pens where you can separate and fiddle with it.

    Dear Doodlebud, just found this inspiration from you. I intend to try that as well, however, what do you think about using an electric grinding tool, corded or battery operated, something between 10,000 to 30,000 rpm? I looked at these tools already for a few weeks now, but I'm not sure if they might be helpfull. Now I saw that you used a knife sharpener, which seems to work as well. Anyway, your advice/ideas are highly welcome. I ordered from Osprey (the website you mentioned to me) some B, BB Oblique nibs 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately I have to wait for new Oblique nibs coming in from India, but delivery to Thailand should be made this Wednesday, according to their customer-service. Thanks again for that info and I hope you will give my question about an electric grinding tool some thoughts. Best regard, Michael

      You can use those tools for sure. Just be mindful of the speed. They remove material very fast so be very delicate

      @@Doodlebud Thanks a lot for your reply and advice. It's my main concern as well. A split second may do more harm than necessary. The jury is still out on finally buying a rotary tool. What still attracts me, are the metal saws. Sofar I cutted cheap Jinhao 1 mm bent nibs (Fude) with an extremly sharp Leatherman plier, where they are bent and made some "homemade stub" nibs. It worked surprisingly well, but the grinding process by hand took a lot of time. That gave birth to the idea looking for a rotary tool. Yesterday I used your video and made a kind of Oblique-Stub-nib from one of my homemade stubs. May sound crazy, but now I got somehow a "multi-nib". On the left side, where now the oblique tine is, (its still far away from a 15 degree angle) I'm receiving a surprisingly nice steep script. Using both sides of the tines still gives nice broad lines, which stubs normally produce. And reverse writing is also doing quite well. Fine grinding took awfully long. The are some more Jinhao Fude nibs on their way, so I'm tending more and more to get a rotary tool as well. If you don't mind I will let you know about the Osprey nibs (India made, according to the Lady at customer support) once they arrive.

    Why’d you call it a fail?? It looks pretty spot on. Good job.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  3 года назад

      Not a total fail, it works but its ugly. Need to spend some time getting it done a bit better (grind is not even). Hard to do a good job while recording 😅

      A few different local retailers. But can buy from Amazon, Www.Chefknivestogo.com, many other places too

      I can't, but it can be done by a proper nib grinder / nibsmith

      @@Doodlebud Is there any way of getting an obb nib without grinding away the tip? Something similar to a real Montblanc obb nib with their characteristic tip form and thickness? Thanks very much for your answer. Your videos are very informative and concise and your voice is a pleasure to listen to.
