  • This one is BIG! If you want to feel more energized while avoiding boredom and feeling stuck, this advice for ENFPs will make all the difference.
Most ENFPs never figure this one out, and that can leave them stuck in limbo land instead of creating an amazing life for themselves.
So, here it is, one life changing piece of advice for anyone with the ENFP personality. It should help when you're dealing with organization, clutter, overwhelm and overall just getting more done and getting your life together as they say.
So here it is, one of my best pieces of advice for ENFPs (I hope!). Enjoy!

Oh god no just the thought of dealing with the past and cleanly and organising stuff drains me. I always want to move onto the next thing because that’s what I’m excited about, and if I have to re-do stuff I hate it, both in terms of videos, copy, podcasts etc. and also in terms of those awful repetitive day to day things like cleaning and food shopping . I also hate having to delay the future, like if I can’t plan a trip yet because of finances or I can’t throw myself into a new project because I’m still tying up loose ends from the project before. 😠

Interesting! I just realized that I only clean when I AM thinking about the future. I clean like mad when I am going on a trip and don't mind and it's hard for me to stop cleaning to actually GO on my trip or I clean like mad when I am having someone over but it makes me feel terrible to clean on a regular basis so I DO often hire out my cleaning... It has always had me perplexed why I have a love/hate relationship with cleaning when I dont mind cleaning and actually rather enjoy it... but then I mind cleaning.... You just made me realize the difference! I love cleaning when I am thinking about the FUTURE. THANKS! It's as simple as that! When I need to clean, I just need to focus on what the future will bring as I clean.

Can’t recommend this advice enough. I’ve been so stagnant the past few years because my thought was “once I catch up on everything I will then work towards a better future.” It’s only now that I’m working on my future that I’m motivated to catch up. Great advice!!

  • @samanthawilliamson9694
    @samanthawilliamson9694 5 лет назад +117

Oh my. I hate loose ends. I am a self confessed procrastinator. Fear of failure. Scared I will fail. So scared sometimes I end up doing nothing! It's tedious but decluttering is therapeutic. When I get motivated enough to do it. I believe, though I don't always practice it. We despise the mundane. I don't know if it's best. However it makes sense that your life will flow much smoother if you de clutter on a regular basis. I am quite tidy anyway and can't stand dirt in my house. Just like in life. If you have lived in the same place all your childhood. Your parents are still together etc. It's a psychological fact that you're relationship attachment style will be secure rather than nervous or avoidant. Very important with romantic relationships. I am not romantically involved with anyone. Decided I am going to work out what I want from a relationship first before jumping in the swan shaped paddle boat a again. Others don't understand. ENFP worlds are often complex. Except to us it's fine and don't get how we can look upon the situation and see it as it really is. No point in getting upset about things we have no control over. I wish I had gone to the same school all my childhood. It definitely helps to build those all important bonds and necessary foundation's to live a balanced happy, almost stress free life. Thanks Dan great. New things to ponder. Love and happiness to all my fellow enfps. I like my own type a lot. Infps too. I feel I fluctuate between introvert and extrovert.

    I'm enfp and had depression.
And it did really messed me up thinking, and looking back in the past, of what went wrong, or what it could actually could be.
It really drained me focusing in the past or pain I've had, that I can't move forward... there's no room left for future.
Now, that I'm reinventing myself, I'm glad I found this channel, and binge watching few days now and it's giving me light and hope.
Also, HAHAHA weird thing. I was studying accounting when I had depression because of family matters and also had existential crisis of what do I really want in my life! 😂
Since I deeply know to myself I don't like to be an accountant, and add depression. Didn't really think twice skipping class lol. Wish I had more guidance during that time.
But I'm back to school just to finish it since I'm in my last semester lol.
    Hope everything turn up great.

I'm also studying accounting but I've been failing classes for 3 years now. I know i have potential because i used to be top 3 students in my class before and still when i get sudden burst of energy i will be studying day and night for about 2 weeks and then come back to square one but now I'm slowly trying to improve myself and i hope i will pass this year NO i am going to pass this year 🤞 its just i read that people with enfp should avoid accounting and finance so..how do you feel about accounting now? I'm wondering if i made the right career choice and ik i can't just leave it. 🥲

    This video changed my life.
I have been digging three years in my past and childhood as i was learning psyhology.. and my teacher told me i smile too much, that im fake. So, as a good student i stopped smiling, beacuse i tought that he was right. Everything in my life falled apart, i was not me anymore, i was so demotivated and sad all the time. Now i have somehow reached up to your channel as a enfp and understood, that there is nothing wrong with me. I was simply doing things that was killing me inside.. But now i have quit the school that was so bad for me, and started my own photography - my secret love, my inspiration and i feel amazing. I love creating and looking forward everyday, not digging in the past all the time. So, Dan - thank you so much for creating this channel and putting so much energy in that. Big kisses

I think understanding the past is very helpful thought. You understand what you do that may be toxic and needs to change to be healthy and make better choices, appreciating your relationships more, being happier in general, etc. I was in a very very dark place this year : I was lost, I didn't love and accept myself, I never communicated with friends, my relationship with my boyfriend was difficult, etc. Needless to say I was fucking depressed and suicidal. So, I had to revisit a very very unhappy part of my childhood to heal from it, to accept that I have lived that experience and I will always be trigger by some things, but since I now understand when and why I react in some ways, I can stop myself and choose to act or feel something more healthy instead.
But it is so fucking hard. You are right to say we ENFPs aren't excited to look into the past. It is unexcited.
Ok take care of yourselves guys

This is awesome. I read on 16Personalities that ENFPs are the biggest type to be nostalgic and think about the past. I can attest to this, as well as probably INFJs. The only downfall is like you said when it becomes this painful longing for how things used to be, or you're stuck in some sort of spiral you haven't fully coped with yet. There definitely is a fine line and I think it's also hard because we are Feelers too lol. Would you be able to make a video for coping, resiliency, and dealing with our intense, overwhelming emotions--and how to be more grounded in reality and logic? Thanks!!

This is true. When watching movies, I always hate high school graduation scenes because it gives me so much feels in my heart and I am kinda uncomfortable with that tingles. I recetly realized that I feeel that way because I incorporate it to my own high school days. What makr my heart feel things is the fact HS is already in the past and I cannot come back to the innocent happy days. I realized that I am uncomfortable with the feeling of nostalgia.

And guess what. 59 yr old Enfp came to MBTI wisdom a month ago. Spent whole life thinking I was under developed and inadequate because I could focus on “stuff” the way others do and I had assumed was so important and prevented me from ever being successful. I had this great idea for a business and instead of trying to patch it together my self doing tasks I am crap at I have employed people to fulfill activities they are skilled at. I have amazing meetings being me which is super fun and I know I have a flare for generating and pushing through great themes and the results are amazing. Why did it take this long to reach this point in life where I accept myself, focus on my strengths and acknowledge those areas I am not driven to be good at.
I have surrounded myself with people who have taken advantage of enfp’ s are there such types. Those that I have allowed to actively undermined my confidence with their characteristic type self belief that things have to be done in a certain way otherwise enfp are a potential failure or lack skills to ever make things happen.
So glad to hear that despite the delay in my life journey it was great to hear that my strategy now seems to be very much in line with your guidance Dan. Better late than never

I completely agree with you because I feel energized thinking about possibilities and the future. As a matter of fact, this is how I keep my positive, upbeat outlook on life that makes people want to stay in it and be around me, but I am not an ENFP. I am an ENFJ and I never focus on the past. I leave past issues and trauma where they belong, in the past. I focus on now and tomorrow and if something comes up from my past that needs dealing with then I handle it when it comes back into my present. If it never comes into my present then it's a nonissue and should be put away in the archives of my mind to hopefully never be thought of again. I am not my trauma. I am a strong person who doesn't let trauma run my life. I decide to be happy, my past doesn't decide that for me.

Clever! Hadn't even occurred to me! I'm doing a whole bunch of stuff to make myself a new future whilst surrounded by a whole bunch of past stuff that weighs me down every single day. In truth the stuff that weighs me down probably wouldn't take that long to deal with but because it weighs me down I end up avoiding it but not really progressing with the new stuff either. If I spent 3/4s of my working day doing the new stuff & 1/4 dealing with the old stuff I bet I'd start seeing the progress I'm missing out on, especially if I change my attitude to the old stuff & see it more positively as making a positive contribution to the future too. I think you just nailed this on the head. Thanks Dan!

this advice seems so good... my problem, however, is that I'm pessimistic. when things aren't going my way, when life's beating me down and everything feels wrong, if I try to focus on the future, chances are ill be seeing it in a very dark light. these days, I try telling myself that I was able to get through every hard scenario life has given me, I've survived all my bad days. that thought gives me strength.
the help part is very precious too. I'm trying to lose the shame and fear in asking others for help and opening up these days. reaching out does help, even if we don't think it would.
nonetheless, thank you for this video!

I went through some rough few years that now I don’t really feel like myself anymore but I thought I had to look back in order to heal and move forward but I now realize I simply have to look ahead! Mind blowing ! Thanks so much :)

I have noticed the exact same thing about my life... all my past, present and future achievements. Ntm wants and needs. though I've noticed and identify them at times it's good to have someone backing it up in a clear concise way. I really think that videos like these and doing further research into my own psyche make a positive and fruitful change. Thank you👍👍👍👍

Wow, that's a really powerful advice! You are absolutely right! I am an ENFP and I am struggling right now, I feel I have left a lot of projects undone, they are really heavy weight on my shoulders. I think about them and how to do these all. But really the most inspiring is always the new. So forget about the past, because there is no more energy in there. Go where everything will flow easily! You are so right! Thank you for this point of view!!!

Hey Dan! I think both are useful, none is better than the other. As an ENFP if I didn't go back in the past and clean up a little bit (reading lessons, finishing podcasts, cleaning up my room) it would always stay in the back on my head bothering me. Just as important as feeling empowered and inspired by starting something new, a new day in the horizon, a short term goal... I find the main thing that gets makes me feel stuck is not knowing how to prioritize and having too many possibilities. Hope that helps. Thanks for your videos

Oh wow. You're right. I always tend to forget I'm an ENFP, and Ne is my dominant function, and the only way to boost this and keep me going is thinking fast forward to the future. Lately, I tend to focus on the, "goal" I have set. Though it is true that I want it, I already closed every possible options to get through the goal I want. Yes. Having a goal is important, but being close minded would not help us ENFP's. Considering the possibilities while having a goal in life is way better, not trapping ourselves to the "only" option created in our minds.

This is only true if you are not severely traumatized, if that is the case you can only begin looking to the future once you have healed a lot of the things that hold you back daily.
So, if you feel you have a lot of trauma in your life, it might take 2 or 5 or even 10 years before you can really begin creating (until you exit survival mode, due to the trauma) . But, if you stay postive through it all and just know that one day you will be at a place where you are thriving, you can push through!

enfp here. just wanted to bring up that while looking into the past might not be important, i think it is necessary. I think maybe this is just my perspective but a couple years ago i had a reslly solid and fortified mindset and i was very happy and over time ive lost the knowledge of how that mindset of happiness worked amd for me looking into the past and reflecting on all the variables in my life and how each person or event might make me think certain ways and rediscovering parts of that mindset by looking to the past has been the most productive and best thing ive ever done for my mental health and its more than any therapist could possibly give me

What you said about looking to the future and letting your vision and plans inspire and empower you (I might be paraphrasing here), that has been bubbling underneath me like some oft-forgotten/ignored undercurrent. Just watching this and imagining the possiblities excites me enough to...to...wait...not sure...I just know that I'm excited about my own potential and tapping into ideas and dreams and goals...and...and...I wonder what other ENFP advice I can find. LATER!

For me as an ENFP it’s way better to look forward, but not so far into the future where I can then become paralyzed and overwhelmed. Instead, I like to take weekly snapshots. If there isn’t anything I want that I can do in a week, then I add some projects or hobbies to keep me excited.

I think it depends on what kind of life you wanna live.. how do I know what future I want to create unless I am grounded, present and centred? Sometimes its important to do a bit of that work to understand yourself better, know your motivations and where they came from, accept yourself and have compassion for yourself. Then you know the visions that you have aren't just crazy ideas or an escape from the present. For example, I convinced myself last year that I just needed to get a job in marketing and make some money, and got excited by this future vision of myself that was just not realistic or related at all to who I am or what's really important to me! I brushed away any nagging doubts or ideas that my past self had about who I really am. Luckily, in the process of completely failing to attain that vision, barking up the wrong trees, chasing shortcuts that were actually dead ends and feeling lost, I stumbled on my real dream job and I'm working on getting qualified for that. But that was only after losing all hope in myself, and looking at random job adverts..

I'm an ENFP and this thing I do is Philosophical Meditation. You look it up on here, it's a video by School of Life. It's a two-parter. You write about the things that are bothering you. And then you write about the things you're excited about. Sometimes I make the mistake of not doing the second part. I think I need to try switching the order of this meditation sequence and see if it'll be easier for me to complete.

No doubt. But, when overwhelmed, I find it helps to spend some time allowing my mind to rest in sensate to then go back inspired/refreshed. Like when in uni I majored in economics. Accounting classes were a vacation from the constant challenge of the creative, conceptual I loved in Econ.
