Little Women is one of my favorite books ever! If you read a more common edition of it you've have probably already read Good Wives too which is sometimes considered a second part of the book and sometimes considered a sequel. There's some interesting history behind that- basically Alcott didn't want to write to the point of her characters getting married, she wanted to write about girls but was told by a publisher that if she did that she had to have them marry or die or else readers wouldn't like with the ending because it would not be settled. 1800s america publishing was apparently a time. Alcott herself never married, and as Jo is kind of based off her own life and experiences its just an interesting thing explored more recently in the 2019 adaption!

Not forcing kids to read classics in school, but having them choose their own books is a great idea! I feel like a lot of assigned reading turns kids that already struggle to read off from reading and make them dislike it more. I personally liked most books that were assigned, but kids choosing their own and being more concerned/ focused on them just reading and comprehending is great!!!
Hot take: I don't care for Funko Pops! 😖 I just think they're weird looking 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I don't keep knickknacks on my book shelves, but I do have some. Trinkets from our travels and such. I do have a bookish candle on my shelf, but it's there as a place holder for when I read chonkers that went missing cause books to tumble. 😅 I also have a toy dinosaur on my bookshelf sitting on top of books and it has my bangles from India around it's neck. 😂😅 but all in all... I agree. Merch type stuff on bookshelves is a waste of space/ makes them look clutter. I HATE when bookshelves loom too cluttered with that stuff! A few, cool, neat.... but dang!

I very rarely comment on any video, but I wanted to offer up a suggestion the way you suggest Little Women to so many people. A book I read in high school and LOVED is a modern classic, historical fiction: Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achibe. I tell people all the time that it's a must read; then follow that up with, "If you end up liking that, you should also check out Fool's Crow by James Welch or anything by Khaled Houssini." So yeah... have a look-see, and maybe you'll be as enamored and heartbroken by those books as I was. Btw, I love your channel and find you quite charming; I think how nice it would be to be friends every time I watch an upload. Lol

Every year of high school was at least one book forced onto us in English. But my older sister would usually warn me ahead of time what the curriculum was. Grade 9 was "Lord of the Flies". Grade 10 kept alternating between "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "A Clockwork Orange". Grade 11 was "Wuthering Heights". Grade 12 was "The Grapes of Wrath". I can say I enjoyed all five of them, especially with the advantage of reading them in advance.
Never read "Little Women". My introduction to the actual story was Greta Gerwig's version, and when I finally do read the book it'll be with almost as much adoration for those characters as Gerwig clearly has.

Have you considered reading March by Geraldine Brooks? It is an imagining of what happened to the father from Little Women while he was away.

Nothing wrong with not carind for trinkets, every minimalist will tell you that. And it's much easier to do the dusting ;)
Btw, I've listen to "And every day the way home gets longer and longer" and OMG it destroyed me. I cried my eyes out, thank you so much for repeating this reccommendation over and over

I'm the same way with trinkets. I like them, but I really don't like clutter.

If you haven’t, find the opera setting of Little Women. It’s pretty incredible!

The only statuettes that I have on my bookcases are (1) The Maltese Falcon and (2) Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service. Odd combination, I know.

At first I thought.. nah, nobody with a collection like Merph would count their books, just because there are so many. But then I realize that I also don't count my books, and I only have one tiny shelf of them LOL

I would love to hear your thoughts on Shogun. There where some very * questionable* parts I did not enjoy and was intimidated by the length and dense pacing. I read it before I read the Stormlight Archive and found I could read bigger books but Stormlight was easier to get through for me and I kinda lost interest In Shogun after a point even though It did seem like something I could enjoy.

Uhmmmm came here to get fun ideas for bookshelf labels. Like you know labels for science fiction, horror etc.
Well sense I'm here; this could be a good idea for a video. Just a thought.
    Nice video. Thank you.

I love the entire Little Women series and I'm so glad you mentioned the rest of them because I never hear the rest of the series mentioned on booktube.
I haven't read Little Women since I was 12 but it was my first classic (unless Time Cat counts, that was published in the 50s and was somehow the first book I ever remember reading) and the only book series I read other than A Series of Unfortunate Events that wasn't fantasy. Are the other books in the series actually as good? I have no clue, I was 12, but damn did I want to cry and throw the book across the room near the end of the last book.

Thats how school should be. Reading the required books in high school ruined reading for me. I hated reading because of it until I discovered good fantasy books I liked in my late 20s

I started slowly keeping track of my books--entering them into GoodReads and trying to keep adding as I go (in batches) I have a feeling there are still some books in the garage I haven't included. However, a LOT are ebooks, so my number of 1800 books isn't so bad, maybe?
