    Now that the #1309 is operating at the WMSR, Lionel could use this opportunity to rerelease this model with the WMSR and other paint schemes.

      @@MMID303 Its not that long and its articulated. I have an older TMCC version of this engine and its minimum recommended curve is O-54. Almost all other scale articulated engines require O72 curves. Its part of the reason WM can run it on their curvy line to Frostburg.

    I just rode C&O 2-6-6-2 1309 at the Western Maryland Scenic. It truly is an amazing piece of engineering. It's huge and looks so complex. It's amazing these things were built without any modern technology like computers! All blueprints drawn by hand.

    Big Beautiful Locomotive! In order to do this steam engine justice you would need 200 foot radius or the boiler swing out will knock over lamps in the next room.

    eric when u buy an electric engine and review it here is the classification:
    1: Letters refer to powered axles [A - 1, B - 2, C - 3, D - 4, E - 5, and so on]
    2: A + sign indicates an articulated electric engine
    3: numbers refer to non-powered axles [also a jackshaft is a non-powered axle]

    I would assume that the volume wheel on the tender can only work if you adjust the volume while it's off, considering the other switches(like the smoke units) can only work if the engine is off to comprehend the position of the switches to act on that command. Am I right?

  • @ishirotanaka
    @ishirotanaka 5 лет назад

    not only is this Mallet classified as a 2-6-6-2, if you look at it at how many powered axles there are; than that makes it 1-B-B-1 or 1-B+B-1

  • @SteamKing2160
    @SteamKing2160 9 лет назад +2

    On the N&W, the 2-6-6-2 was known as the Z Class and numbered in the 1400 series and on the C&O they were called the H6 Class. The N&W Z's were replaced by the A 2-6-6-4's in 1936 and 1937 (Z Class 2-6-6-2's were all retired by 1957). C&O built the H7 2-8-8-2's and the H8 2-6-6-6 "Alleghenies" after the H6 2-6-6-2's.
    2-6-6-2's were mainly used for local trains. 2-6-6-4's and 2-8-8-2's did both general freight, fast freight, and coal drags but the 2-6-6-6's only did coal drags. Also the 2-6-6-4's owned by the N&W did adapt really well to troop trains during WW2 with speeds up to 70mph.

    Spoke with the individual who purchased it..They were asking $350.00..sold it to me with box..$300.00
    Mesa AZ
    examined the unit & looked in mint condition; nothing broken..nice and clean; even the undercarriage..plan to take it to a model train store to have him check it out.
    Used bookstore told me if any problems can return it to them for full refund..& yes I did print $300.00 is what paid plus two ling pair of straight track.
